Window a/c - assembled vs branded

I am using this thread forum to seek your assistance ---

i need a 1 ton window a/c for my room .. just checking which is better -
Assembled (Napolean kit) or some branded one.

Branded have rotary compressors which are sensitive and have shorter life compared to Kirloskar compressors (assembled)

Things i am considering is -

Longevity
less electricity bill
good performance

Thanks !!

namit, branded A/C at any point in time.

I've seen far too many cases where assembled machines started giving serious trouble within a year.

The brand to go for (my view though) is O' GENERAL. This make is expensive no doubt but gives you a fantastic service for years.

We've loads of window models from them in our Chennai office. They're noiseless for last five years...

Have bought two more National / Panasonic air conditioners since then. Cools well, is super quiet.

About General (popularly called 'O' General) - they are damn good and keep running for years, but I hear they consume a lot of power.

Carrier is suspect - I've seen too many of them rattle around or break down to have any confidence in the brand.

You are right Sir !!

We had 2 NATIONAL imported from malaysia - 0.75 and 1 ton .... and 0.75 ton is the one i think u r referring to bcoz even my A/c servicing guy said that it consumes slightly more than a fan.

In India Videocon was earlier using the NATIONAL a/cs but not very sure about their a/c s now.

BTW .. how r Videocon a/cs ?

Tell me something. when you say National imported from Malaysia can you really import ACs just like that? I mean, its not a laptop that you can hang on your shoulder and walk out or something smaller that you put in your suitcase and walk in. Its pretty big thing. What happens at customs?

Also, are not national ACs available in India, considering that almost all of those brands from around the world are now available here? And if available are those any different from the National ACs from Malaysia (why malaysia and not say Japan or Taiwan)?

Hey Zappo !!

This was good 12 - 14 years ago and i dont know how it was imported but yes it was .. probably will have to confirm with my father.

That time National wasnt there in India nor i think its a/cs are available in India now also.

Cheers.

Even though everyone here seems to have a thing for Hitachi. I'd just say the be wary of the Quadricool series they have..as they are horrible.
I got two of them last year, both failed within a month, were replaced, one failed again, replaced a month back... in short just fed up of the product and the a.s.s.

Got a new split 2 days back again from hitachi.. fingers crossed :-)

@naveen.. yea they consume less power.. but havent seen Hitachis cool half as much as my LG ac in a room that is twice the size of the room where the hitachi is. So its like lesser power used .. lesser the room cooled ;-)
