(do write it down and keep in a safe place. If you lock yourself out then it's... press the reset button and start from scratch! (a backup of your settings would be good))

Don't forget the possibility of physical access. A friend had this problem with a family member, and realised it because she saw mails marked read that she knew she had not yet seen

Is it possible that both of you are browsing under the same login in Google chrome for example? Note that google chrome (and most other browsers) syncs history also to the cloud. This allows for use cases like I browse on one machine and my phone too will show the history just because they get synced over the google cloud.
