I got a ThinkPad E14 Ryzen 5, and it's a beauty. No I didn't buy one, as my 4 year old Acer Swift 3 is still going strong. My company ordered a batch of ThinkPads, and I fought my way through to get one allocated. Boy, it's sleek and beautiful. A lot smaller and lighter than my earlier ThinkPad edge 14. Am not very happy about its display though. A little dim and warm, but I can live with it.

Are you paying for some serious trap?

You may agree or not with what somebody is saying, but decide only after listening till the last sentence:

Now that cannot be configured which does not affect me much, as I have hardly any use for it.
My laptop with Windows 7 fell down and is kaput. The other new one has Windows 11 64 Bit operating system. This has made my Laserjet Printer HP1020 redundant being incompatible. This is terrible. I may have to get it repaired at any cost or I may have to buy another one (though used one) just for the sake of Printer.
I do not know whether to be happy with technology or bear suffering.
Get the latest drivers from the manufacturers website and it might work with latest OS as well

Re: BIOS recovery?

The BIOS flash on a Dell 'Vostro 1440' failed and now the laptop is NOT powering on. I tried looking for solutions on 'Dell Support' and couldn't find one.

Please advise, if there is a way to restore the BIOS program.

Re: The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions

Folks, I am looking to get a windows laptop for personal use and would love to get your suggestions on reliable brand and model.

At work I use a macbook pro and would like the new laptop to be lightweight with similar screen size (upto 14 inch), good battery backup, 16gb ram, 512 gb ssd or hdd, ms office, which doesn't get heated up while using etc. Budget upto 70k but would love to get something cheaper. I usually use my personal laptops for quite a long time. The current one, an HP, is running for 7 yrs now. Primarily will be used for personal work with light softwares running.

Also please share from which channel should I get it - online or store considering best deals? Location is Bangalore.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions

Is 'Appario Retail Private Ltd' on Amazon an authorized DELL seller?

I have bought DELL Laptops from Dell's online shop in the past, however the better offers I get on Amazon tempt me. But I am worried about Warranty, etc.

Thanks.

Appario is owned (sort of) by Amazon India. Because of regulations, they cannot own 100% - so the big ecommerce giants take the JV route.

What he said in the video is nothing.

You should try reading the microsoft licence agreement. I promise you, your jaw will drop before you reach half of the agreement. They even blatantly say, they collect all of your id's and passwords including those of financial institutions. I am not sure what that means, but hey, they have access to everything.

I have recently bought Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Ryzen (8GB RAM, 512GB SSD). With an extra 16GB RAM the nett cost was Rs.65,000. This model can accept a second SSD.

Many online retailers are unreliable even though the give a huge discount (that is because invariably the laptops are returns, or partially defective). There fore find a reliable offline store.

Do a thorough study of the models you want - the price spread, configuration etc, and then verify it at the store. Faced with competetion, most stores are willing to match the online prices to a large extent.

Re: The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions

For those looking for laptop speakers, I'd recommend the AmazonBasics USB speakers:

- Priced at Rs. 1,100
- Delivered within 12 hours
- Nice build quality. Unlike other USB speakers, this one feels weighty
- Has good enough bass too!

Thanks for this! Just at the time when the laptop speakers gave up and I have to replace them at 2800 a piece this is a superb VFM option. Quick question, how many ports does this use up in the laptop?

Uses the laptop's audio-out port and an USB port (for speakers' power supply):

I also have this Honeywell USB hub because lots of gadgets are plugged into the laptop. You get 4 USB ports:

Re: The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions

I am looking for an i5(12th Gen) or Ryzen 5 laptop for my son's college work. Budget is around 60K +/- 5K.
One of the key requirements is a thunderbolt port to avoid a bunch of connections. I find that none of the brands like HP/Lenovo offer that in the mid range laptops. Dell doesnt even have a good range in 12th gen. They are still hawking 11th Gen laptops at atrocious prices.

Any suggestions welcome for a good spec laptop with thunderbolt port in the budget specified.
