My comments:

1. Yes you can do all of the stuff that you are referring to.

2. Lack of Java will hardly make a difference. I am yet to come across any site that doesn't play on my iPhone (also lacks flash support). The same should apply to the iPad.

3. There are several free apps on the iTunes store which cover most of the routine needs. You can browse through the store if you have iTunes on your Vaio to get an idea. There are paid apps if you are looking for something very specific. Most of them are priced at 99c and max would be in the $5-10 range.

4. There is a dedicated music app that comes on the iPad which allows you to play music. You will need iTunes on your Vaio to transfer your music collection to the iPad. The iPad has a proprietary 30 pin connector which connects via provided cable to your computer's USB port. No dedicated USB port on the iPad.

5. Yes, you might not want to use the Vaio anymore. Apple products could get addictive. So watch out.

I want to request iPad1 owners for valuable inputs: -

1. Can I do all the things given above, and similar things, without any additional software?

2. What is the implication of iPad1 not having Java or Flash support? Does it affect the experience much?

3. What apps are very much essential? Are they available only on payment? Do I need to buy apps for doing routine tasks?

4. I read that iTunes are required to listen to music on iPad1. Does it mean that I can not transfer my music collection to iPad1 via usb? Does it have regular usb port?

5. Considering that I have never used any Apple device till now what other surprises should I be ready for?

Thanks.

The BB PlayBook is now available starting at 199$ for 16gb. Seems like incredible value !

Have the prices in India been slashed too?

+1 to that.

The interface is really terrible on the playbook. Recently during my visit to Dubai, saw few "Buy 1 get 1 free" offers on the playbook. Desperate times for BB.

The Kindle Fire should be a good alternative for someone NOT looking for the iPad.

Even the nook tab is a good alternative to the ipad, along with the kindle fire.

Does anyone feel the screen stuttering while you open new apps and also when the iPad wakes up. iOS 5.0.1 is having issues with alarm clocks too. If someone knows the fix, do let me know. Thanks!

Thanks Mustang, I got the code. Rcomnet is the one that works on iPad, smart net might fly for some other tab. I am super connected now

One thing that I notice is that iPad hogs data like a mad bull on the charge. Have to restrain myself for the 5 gb limit.

Thanks again.

You are welcome. I have a wifi only ipad 2.

I think you were referring to the high data consumption while the ipad is charging. Right?

If yes then thats because of the automatic icloud backup. You can switch off this automatic backup in the icloud settings so that you stay within the stipulated usage.

I am using iPad as my primary computing device and it surprises me how we ere able to surf the net and gain enough info to get the work done in 1990s.

iPad uses a lot of data usage as I find under general settings-> usage -> cellular data usage which you can't for wifi connection. Apps silently use a lot of bandwidth which we seldom realize. Bigger better plans seems inevitable

Cheers!

Easy does it, it has A-GPS so it works with 3G network and GPS to give precise location. Works very well with Google Maps/ Waze/ NavIndia apps.

Cheers!

Have you ever used a playbook? I have one and I really dont agree, the interface on the playbook is really slick and at about 13.5k it is absolute value for money. Also with the new OS2.0 there is a whole new world of apps available aka Android Marketplace. Anyway this is going a bit so my apologies.

Ok so I also want to get an iPad, but have the following doubts, would appreciate some insight on this if possible guys:

1. I will be using it as a replacement for a lot of books, and every week I would like to download the latest copy of a magazine that I subscribe to. Now on my playbook I just visit the website and download it in epub format, open my epub reader and browse to it and voila there you go, read and enjoy. However I know how finnicky Apple devices are on syncing with itunes and the like, so every time I download my new epub will I have to do it on my PC and re-sync with the iPad, or can I download it over wifi/3g on the iPad and view directly from iBooks or the Nook app etc?? What about other format files - is there a kind of file manager app on the iPad? As I know earlier Apple devices had these limitations.

2. For my work, I connect to my office VPN server and then use RealVNC viewer to remotely work on my office computer. On the iPad will I be able to connect to my work VPN? Is there an option to configure? Also I know there is a RealVNC app available for iOS, has anyone had any experience in using it?

3. Finally, I know the iPad uses a micro-sim for 3G. Is it easy to get a micro-sim from say Airtel? Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks in advance for all your help.
