Went ahead and bought Nokia 7 Plus for my dad from Amazon for 26K. There was flat 1750 off for HDFC card also.
The device is exceptional. Built very well. Has near stock android and very good battery. Perfect for my dad. He had Moto Z2 play earlier and was used to good battery life so the Nokia worked perfectly. Camera is decent for my dad. He hardly uses it. Don't care about video at all. Assured about updates for the next 2 years and regular security updates. He is already on 8.1 with July security update.
After using 7 plus, my OP 3T feels so dated.
Finally had my first proper fall for my OP3t. Phone slipped (I do not use a cover or a case or tempered glass) and fell flush on a concrete tarmac from about 5 and half feet.
I honestly had no hope of it picking up in one piece but it took the fall surprisingly respectfully. A couple of dings on the side and a bit of the black plastic thing wrapped around the glass chipped off. Here are the pictures of after the event.

Fortunately, before I could take the plunge, I stumbled upon the (not available in India) phone, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. It is almost going to be a year since its launch in a few months, but it had good specifications like the SD835 processor, a width of under 65mm, a weight of just 140g, a good battery life (with stamina mode) and my decision was sealed. In spite of it having a 720p screen.
If anyone else is in the same boat as mine looking for a decent spec "small" Android, I would highly recommend this phone. |
Very good choice. Why? Because back then when Xperia Z was launched it was big at that time. So I waited and after few months Xperia ZR (rather Z compact) was launched. I grabbed it without reading review because Z review were good. It was actually stopgap arrangement for 6 months to try before jumping to bigger screen. But it was so good, waterproof and sturdy I ended up using it for 2 years. It survived countless drops without any protection because of its compact size. I actually used it twice in water resort also successfully. Hope the build quality has not deteriorated over years by Sony. Then I migrated to Samsung Note 4 which is still doing duty after more than 3 years.

Umm yes. (Blush). Was looking at 8 specs, 8 plus does have NFC.
Is there a reliable android app to record phonecalls if I wanted to? I have a Moto X4 and there is no default setting to record. I don't want anything too intrusive.

I have been using this one for about 18 months now:

Works truly awesome. The paid version costs about 100 bucks or something.
Works with all my headsets, Android Auto and in speaker mode too.

Use the exchange offer from Samsung India website. You'll get an extra discount with exchange. |
Thanks! The price seemed irresistible. After a 6 grand cashback on the HDFC credit card, it cost Rs. 36,990 for a 128 GB S9.

Seems good. In the free version I find I can't manually start recording. It records all phonecalls. I need to upgrade to the pro version.
Also is it possible to increase volume of recording of the other person alone. Right now there is a significant difference in the volume and my coffee is much louder in the recording.

Has anyone tried the TRAI's blocklist / DND app? |
I recently installed this app. Even after me blocking a number through messaging app, sometimes i used to get the SMSes from the same number. So, I installed this app, but there is no improvement even after blocking that number through this app. So, I am not sure of the effectiveness of this app.
