Thanks, have tried that. But not working. The error persists.

The Google play services is supposed to update on its own in the background. If that isn't working for some reason, you can download the latest version from
here. Make sure you download the right version for your phone, as there are different versions for different phones.

My dad is also a senior citizen lol:
He had some issues in the beginning regarding the size but remember, he has Moto Z2 earlier which was quite hefty. So adjusting to Note 7 plus wasn't all that difficult. But if your parents have a smallist phone now, they may find the 7 plus a bit too big. |
They are using a Redmi Note 3, but I imagine the Nokia 7 Plus is even bigger and heavier than that.
Since size was a concern, I grabbed an Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 from Flipkart on Monday and it arrived yesterday. Seems unbelievable value for 15k:
- Stock Android (Oreo v8.1)
- Snapdragon 636 Processor
- 6 GB RAM
- 64 GB Internal storage
- Dual Sim plus memory card support (no hybrid nonsense)
- 5.99 inch Full HD+ screen
- 16MP + 5 MP dual rear cameras with flash
- 16 MP front camera
- Face Unlock and fingerprint reader
- 5000 mah battery
- Soft transparent back cover included in the package
So far so good, let's see how it works. :)

Hi Condor,
Attached are the screenshots where you need to fine tune. First screenshot is setting. In second screenshot when you click Auto update app, it gives you three options, choose the one you want.
Third screenshot is for the notification of when update is available. I do not see an issue if you are choosing the right option in step two and three.

I don't think these settings apply to, or affect, the installation and updating of Google Play Services.

@Ritz3645, Thank you ! However, like @binand said, this may not be applicable here.

+1.
Thanks to everyone for the tips. The problem got resolved a little unexpectedly. I thought I'd try the steps suggested by @SpeedDemon. I opened Chrome, and it said I need to update Google Play Services before I go further. Yes, I answered. Updates Downloaded. Errors stopped.
I am planning to buy Huawei P20 pro 128 GB after getting positive reviews on the camera. Has anyone experienced the camera of this phone?
Need to buy mobile with v.good camera and nice screen for better half. budget around 12k. The usual suspects like asus zenfone max pro m1, etc fit the bill but look plasticky.
i myself use moto x play for a few years now and absolutely in love with the superb build quality.
So inclining towards a refurbished 2016 moto x style - better spec-ed than x play, bigger screen and same cam.
Does x style make sense in 2018? Don't care much for 18:9 and fingerprint/face scanners. build quality, screen, media consumption factors (front facing speakers, etc) matter.
So i'm new to the Android OS. Have had the iPhone ever since the first one and recently bought an Android phone for my second number.
It's a one year used Samsung S8 plus and was primarily bought for it's camera and to use with the OSMO and Spark. Let's not get into why S8 and not pixel.
Now the issue. All was fine till i decided to port from Vodafone to Jio. Having two numbers on vodafone with major network issues in mumbai did not make sense.
As soon as my Jio sim got activated i realised i couldn't make calls and a quick internet search led me to install JIo4Voice app. This app takes over phone and message from the native app and will show no service if I'm on Wifi.
Apparently my phone doesn't support VoLTE or has a US software and i need to get the indian software on the phone.
So what's the work around? I have no clue about flashing roots, roms, coms, and romcoms.

Switch sims if you can, that is, put the Jio sim in your iPhone and using your Vodafone in Samsung, see if that helps.
I know I haven't provided a solution :uncontrol [Jio post porting from AirTel did wonders to my iPhone battery and didn't require any application as does the Honor 10].

I need the secondary phone and number for video applications. Thus, when paired with the osmo or spark, the phone will go to airplane (offline) mode while my primary phone will still have network.
Therefore, switching sims will make getting the second phone for it's intended purpose redundant.
On a separate note, does the iPhone 6 support VoLTE?

Yes, it does. I used Jio on iPhone 6. VOLTE support varies with the operator.
In the recent fracas about UIDAI I found that Google preloads some phone numbers. So be careful. Maybe check and delete all numbers before starting. I know this is tough as you are keen to get going, but all the same.

Your mobile operator pre-loads a bunch of numbers. Your e-commerce site is also probably doing so. Phone manufacturer, too. Some I guess are government/TRAI mandated (eg: the various emergency numbers).
Flipkart used to install their app on Moto phones sold on their platform (when Moto was exclusive to them). Not sure if this is still the case. I just disabled the app and moved on.
