And its here: The Defy is charging :D
Hope to have it running Gingerbread by the weekend. So all you guys fence sitting - grab it via the RCOMLSB while it lasts :D
Hi am looking for an android phone in 15-18k range
Besides defy and galaxy acer and soon to be launched wildfire S are there any other contenders?
I'd prefer running 2.2/2.3 version of android
My Galaxy Ace is running hot. And battery life is not too much also. Is it common?
Oh Yeah, I have been playing Angry Birds a lot. But then I also used to play a lot of "Brothers in Arms" on Nokia E63. It never ran hot or went low on battery.

Has anyone tried any MS exchange support apps (like TouchDown) for galaxy s to access corporate mail server on ms exchange? if so please let me know.
Also is there any VPN adapters availabe that can be used with rsa secure ID to access the VPN and mails?
Thanks in advance. |
I have gotten 2 GMail and 1 Exchange account working. The Lotus Traveler installation is almost done and no hiccups.

Anyway, so I got this baby home. Won't be opening it until I am back in Manipal. Apparently it has to be charged for 14 hours before first use. |
My phone came with battery fully charged! :uncontrol
So I finally got K-9 mail working on my MS Exchange (2007). For the benefit of others, here are the settings that I used:
Username: MSDOMAIN\USERNAME (this is the same syntax you use while logging in to your PC when you boot up / after you unlock it. To see this, press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL)
Exchange Server: mail.domain.com
Security Type: SSL
Port: 443
Mailbox Alias:
username@domain.com
OWA Path: (keep this blank)
Authentication Path: (keep this blank)

P.S. I'm still on the look out for a decent email app which fulfills the following features:
1. Exchange+Gmail+Yahoo support in an all-in-one format (ala BlackBerry)
2. Timed push/synchronisation support (e.g. I'd like to have mails pushed at an hourly interval)
3. HTML support
4. well integrated with Contacts, Messaging and Browsing app (to directly call / SMS / open link from within an email)
So far, Samsung Social Hub has fulfilled all the above except point 2.
Others have failed on one or more counts.
It is just the lack of a robust email app that is still making me miss the BlackBerry :-( |
So I FINALLY got K-9 up and running with MS Exchange 2007. Here is the post for other's benefit

Did your Defy ship with Froyo or Eclair?

Yes, even my Ace gets hot after extended game-play (Angry Birds) or long charging sessions. I'm yet to decipher whether this is normal/common.

On which email app did you configure the Exchange account on?
Nishant,
Its Eclair. But not for long :D
Exchange was configured in the standard email widget - I said corporate account, gave user id, domain, server settings and it was done. Email looks beautiful compared to the E63 - good riddance!
Got the TBHp app too :D

My Ace (bought less than 3 weeks ago) is not showing any of these problems, although I do not play Angry Birds... But, I do play other games, and watch a lot of Streaming Videos. I am quite a heavy user (both phone and internet), and my battery typically lasts 24 hours, before I need to charge.
Google has announced the android@home project. It will enable to control your home appliances from your android device, apparently. There is some real hype out there over it.
Blah. Nokia did oodles and gadzillions of work on Near Field Communication all these years.
Nothing new.
It is not just NFC. It is more of an open API to interact with hardware controllers, that is what I get from what I read. Besides Nokia was there for a long time doing symbian and we know what happened after Android !
One thing is that the technology is not new. The other ofc is that one platform has failed but a new one works. Let's not mix both.
In other news, the Defy is successfully rooted. Here's the screenshot of Quadrant via ShootMe:

:D
but the previous attempt (on full battery) was 1034! clap:
Let's see when I get GingerBreaded!
Any news on Gingerbread on Samsung Galaxy S? Or the bus has already left?
Oh speaking of GingerBread Custom ROM et al - here is a chronicle of my adventures with the Motorola Defy. All this bricking business has got me worried.
So here I am chronicling it:
Motorola Defy Ownership | FreeRiding
Currently, downloading & backing up the nandroid backups lest something be bricked during the installation. About 400mb of data on its way.
NOT for the non-geeks or the faint of heart.
Just got official HTC update to Gingerbread on my HTC Desire HD
! Feels good :)
