@all users of HTC Desire HD and other large phones:
How convenient is it to use a phone thats 4 - 4.3" large? Is it really practical?

I am waiting for the galaxy s2 to launch in India. But I have already started getting doubts if a phone of that size is practical? Can you hold it in your hand for an hour on the go while on a call? I have been using a Nokia 6500 Slide from past 2 years(which is pretty sleek) and hence the apprehension.

Nope, it is quite nice actually. I own a Moto Defy (3.7" screen, 4" total) & have compared with my friends owning Samsung Galaxy SL(4" screen, 5" total). Theirs is a bit bulkier to hold overall, but much nicer while typing on the touch screen because its a bit easier to hold for the hands.

That said - the likes of HTC have a more tighter form factor (like Moto, not samsung) so will not be that much bigger than the SGSL.

Edit: in the end, you will get used to it - its not bad either ways. Choose the phone for features - this should not be a criterion

I am going to flash CM 7 in my Desire SLCD. I tried asking in the CM forums whether the latest stable release of CM7 supports desire's slcd version. I haven't got a reply from that forum in days. Anyone has any clue? I don't want to get a phone with a dead display after flashing.

Even Samsung Galaxy Ace is not in the list of devices. Can I still install CM 7?

Rooted my Samsung Nexus S Last night.

Loving the Android Experience. :thumbs up

Try Juice Defender. There are both free and paid versions. The former should do for most of us. It disbles 3G/WiFi,etc. and restarts them periodically so that synch is maintained. Very useful in extending battery life.

HTC Desire surely sports CM7. It is the SLCD screen which I am not sure about. AMOLED version will run CM7 with no issues.

I'm yet to see the benefits of running CM7. I've rooted so that I could OC my phone and I've got an unofficial 2.3 Gingerbread ROM, but what does CM7 give me? Is this just an aesthetic overtone? Like an OS skin?

Perhaps you saw it in settings > accounts & sync > facebook ?

Thanks, Rehaan. I finally figured out that it showed up in Social Hub --> Add Account.

Facebook app was not installed by default and I downloaded it from the marketplace.
Love the phone.

I am expecting to have better control over the phone - better battery life, OC etc.
and of course, a more smooth and better UI! Wanted to root and install CM7 ever since bhpian Immortal-Z demo'ed his Desire-Z running CM!

CM7 does not do OC - its setvsel/Overclock or the bootloader which does the job.

CleverMax/Nishant: DONT! The Galaxy SL is almost the same as the Galaxy S with the SLCD. However, the SGS roms don't work IIRC. You may wish to check up in detail - don't rush!

Downgraded to 2.3.3

Installed the CM7 ROM
Much better.

Changed my ROM from shadowmod 2.3 to CM7 Custom ROM 7.1.0 for Motorola milestone. Loving it so far.

Cons

1. Battery life? I dropped from 100 to 80 percent in under 2 hours!! No calls, just downloading apps and playing with CM7 features!

2. Launcher pro default home screen. Boring!

3. CM's default OC'ing mod wouldn't go above 1ghz. Installed milestone overclock app, oc'd to 1.2 Ghz.

Im a bit scared of this battery peformance. Will see how it fares till morning.

Thanks for the warning phamilyman. What is SGS roms? You are saying that I'll run into trouble if I install CM7 in my desire with slcd screen?

SO far I have

1) Rooted the Optimus
2) Installed Android SDK

Today I might got for Custom Recovery.

Just a couple of noob questions

1) IF the phone boots into Custom Recovery - can I shut it down and re-start it normally ?

2) Which ROM is the best for the Optimus ? I need better battery life, a bit more stabler and faster phone, also all functions should work....ie BT, GPS,GPRS all should work flawlessly
