Got my first Android phone the nexus 4 and boy am I loving it. The best part is the price. I don't think I could have got a better phone for 19k odd. Running on 4.2.2 and things are as smooth as it can get.

The funny thing is that I was about to pay for it (expiring in Apr 2013), and without even paining me once, it auto-extended. Good show I say!:uncontrol

First case where I was about to pay for an app and got it free!

It happened to me also after the first year. Next time I actually wanted to pay for it and did it a couple days before expiry. Its one of the most used apps on my phone :-) Have tried out lot of IM apps after WA, but none provided the simplicity of this thing.

Yes sir got it from the play store $349 plus shipping which I believe is currently the best deal on a smartphone on the planet right now. Seriously if you can manage to get it from the play store do get it. It's that good and no offense to s3 and iPhone owners, but at this price makes them look like over priced non sense.

I was hoping the latest update from Whatsapp would make it less sluggish. But it hasn't happened. :( The new Holo version seems to take more battery and RAM too.

I don't quite understand - what is so special about it? Have you tried others like KiK, Wechat, etc? Kik esp. is rapidly catching on. Geez, even Gtalk could be a substitute.

Whatsapp has several flaws/drawbacks -

1) Hogs way too much ROM and RAM. Since it is permanently resident, with no way to offload itself, like say Skype, its permanently sitting in your precious RAM. I don't know why they dont allow you exit like Skype, so you can stop receiving messages when you don't want to.

2) Sluggish... and getting even more sluggish, esp. on lower end phones.

3) Cant move to SD.

4) No dark theme.

5) Last seen time & date could be a privacy issue for some.

6) Now going paid, while many good free options are available.

7) No voice calls (some other messengers do both voice and texting)

I tried @splitsecond, but was not very impressed with its performance. I am saying this after using Llama for a year. The other things like location based hybrid state machines are perfect.
But some how I was not happy with this aspect. I think even Tasker runs on GPS based locations.

Finally ended up buying the pro version for go power master. Works well and battery life sure has increased by leaps and bounds.
Of course this is when you dont browse long. But most check and respond to mails/calendars etc.

So now the only problem is though power saver part works very well, I cannot intersect it with location based profiling, which I would have loved to do.
I thought of tasker, but then it runs on GPS based co-ordinate profiling.

This my reason list:

1) I have 70% of my contact list on Whatsapp. Nothing else come close. On KiK and WeChat, I never found any of my contacts. Line had 2 of them :)
2) Regarding sluggishness I have never faced it. Probably because am running on a Note 2.
3) The memory footprint is 16MB. I don't care even after all these I end up having around 1GB of free RAM all the time.
4) It doesn't allow logging in using same phone number from different devices at a time, am not sure about other IM's. This is "security" for me.
5) Paid with no ads is OK for me and that too around 50 INR per year. What's the big deal if the app is satisfying you. I used to spend at least 10 times that amount while SMS was my only IM.
6) Can't move to SD is not a big deal for me, on stock JB I can't move any apps to SD on my Note 2.

Agreed on the dark theme part, I am crying for one for some time now especially since now using an AMOLED.

After trying out all these options for IM, I use Whatsapp and VOIP I use Vonage :thumbs up

BTW, You should really get 3G. It is almost a sin to have a s3 and use it on 2G only!!

Did activate 3g 500mb plan. It seems 3g consumes more battery, atleast that's what i'm experiencing or may be its just the apps running in the background. Logged out of the facebook app as i didn't want it running in the background!

Guys, just FYI, I dont know if you've heard, but there's Whatsapp+ (Plus)

Pretty slick and gives you a LOT of options to play around with. Power users will be very happy. Best part is it uses half as much memory as the official Whatsapp app.

Here's the link

I don't think Whatsapp is that bad. Runs very smoothly on my old HTC desire. No sign of sluggishness. On the Galaxy Nexus, it was running butter smooth and fast. (Of course dual core and 1GB RAM).

I find it the best messaging app, among the apps like Viber, which can be very sluggish on lower end phones.

Ready to pay for it anytime, but they keep extending my trial period!

Many free options are available but what to do - most of the people are on Whatsapp. A free app being available alone won't do.

Have a stupid question to ask. Tried Googling a lot, no answers.

How do you clean the White Flip Cover of the latest Samsung Galaxy gadgets ? It's been just a month and the flip cover of my Galaxy Grand already looks dull. Not that I have spilled any curry, but just by regular use, the exterior of the flip cover has some hand stains. The interior of the flip cover (the soft part) is more dirty, don't know how though.

I see lot of S3 and Note Owners here. Anybody has tried washing the flip cover ?

My plan is to:
- Wash the cover under running tap water.
- Make a solution of Detergent + Water. (The one I use for washing clothes)
- Put the flip cover in the solution and let is soak for sometime.
- Wash it under running water again to clean off the detergent.

Will this solution work, or do I have a risk of damaging the inside of the flip cover (the soft portion that sits on the screen) ???

Any ideas or experiences, please share.

If it is pure leather then it wont work at all. Don't even try it. You could try a leather cleaner like you get for car upholstery. :)
