Re: Notion Ink Adam

^^ that is one thing i am disappointed about so far with notion ink boys- being indian it should be relatively easy to get hold of one of these in stores locally. Even if it is an online selling model, they should ship em out first to india.
I know they are globally in demand now and are all set to dominate the global tablet market, but should always respect local audience demands first :-) There aren't too many of us in india who will spend 30k on a tablet, surely not enough to make a dent in their global supply stock :-P

Re: Notion Ink Adam

Really a good looking device, would love to own it.
Its pretty expensive though.
They can get it a little cheaper.
But if its worth the money then i don't see a problem.

Anyone has test reviewed this product?

This was a big disappointment for me too. However, when i heard the reason it made sense :

According to Google's TOS, the Android market can ONLY be accessed via android phones at the moment. Therefore it would be going against googles specifications to allow market access. (Remember: the galaxy tab is a "phone").

I'm sure you can get APKs and install then on the Adam without a problem. Its just that you cannot get them via the "android market".

They may already be selling it, but they aren't shipping it yet!

I'm sure all the reviews will come online immediately after CES.

Except for the camera with its variable positions both products look very similar
Go to Croma etc - they have the Galaxy Tab on demo.
Also, i would not say the two products are very similar! There are pretty major differences :
- 10" vs 7"
- Pixel-Qi
- Eden
- Phone functionality on Galaxy Tab
- Dual core on Adam!
- 1GB RAM on Adam, 512 on Galaxy
etc

In-store sales locations will probably be announced at / after CES.
Either way, you can order online and it ships from China.

1) They are flat-fee shipping to ANYWHERE in the world. Like they say, its not about countries and borders, its one global market. One world.
2) There will probably be stores in India carrying it as soon as stores in any other country.
3) India is a tiny market for them. Europe, followed by USA is where the huge majority of sales are going to be. Extreme patriotism will only kill their business

Getting apks officially is not possible - yes they could be hosted somewhere by some third party, but then we all know what is possible with non-market apks - the new android virus proves it

Yes patriotism will kill their business, but some early launches and easy access to the adam in the indian market may not hurt them it happens with every home grown product - koreans get a lot of LG, samsung stuff first, japanese have their own quality variants from sony, et al, aussies pride in local stuff, lotus is easy to buy in UK, etc etc. The country of origin always gets some benefits, even though a majority of these brands may sell a lot more in other places vs country of origin.
I want people across the world to say - ooh that hot tablet is 'more' easily available in India, maybe if someone is going to India they can get one for me

It is possible to install apk's (very nice way of installing - check the video on the Notion Ink Blog) - however, they have clearly mentioned that there will not be Android market support now - it will come later when Honeycomb is released and Android market is officially made available to tablets too.

Well a lot of developers officially put the APK for download on their site. (For eg. Tasker).

Though if its a 3rd party it is riskier as you have mentioned -- though like chennai-indian said, this is just a stop-gap till honeycomb happened.

To be honest, lack of the market on the Adam was a HUGE deal-breaker for me, but when i found out the reasoning behind it, it made sense.

I want people across the world to say "oh that Indian company were the first to treat the entire world equally and offer one flat price / shipping rate!".
It seems Notion Ink want the world to say that too.

Man i am waiting for CES!! (Though its probably gonna make me a bit depressed as i bought a Galaxy S just a few months back).

It seems Notion Ink want the world to say that too.
That defies economics and market in general. Treating fairly would be apportioning the costs fairly, which include shipping.

@snagg1, A pre-order window was open around 9 th Dec 2010 and closed after all the units were sold out. A second round of pre-order may start anytime in the next few days so keep an eye on the notion ink website.

My Adam ships tentatively between 15th and 22nd Jan and will post a review here as soon as I get it in my hands.
