New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

Mod Note : The 2012 Maruti Alto 800 Review can be found at this link

Looks like Maruti wont let the 800 die after all. Lets hope it gets good quality materials and this isnt some half hearted job like the Original Estilo when it replaced the Zen.

Re: New Maruti 800

The size looks the same as Alto. Wonder what they mean by saying the new vehicle will be positioned below Alto. What will it not have that the Alto has?!

It might just be an Alto facelift.

Re: New Maruti 800

The M800 is such a good car for its price. They should work on keeping it alive for the "aam janta"..speaking of which what is up with the Cervo?
Not sure if Maruti can manage Cervo, M800, Alto and AStar in the entry level segment. But if any one can Maruthi can :-)

Re: New Maruti 800

this looks very different since the bonnet length is much larger than 800 or even alto.

Nope , looks quite different than the Alto, things like the addition of a quarter glass at the rear differentiate them.
It looks great for a sub 2-lakh rupee car, if it indeed is that. But then, i thought the Alto is the new 800.

Re: New Maruti 800

looks like estilo + alto. but honestly i still love the current 800. Its a classic and i wish MS keeps it like that and let it die naturally like the Esteem.

Re: New Maruti 800

I believe that this is the Cervo being tested. Cervo is being touted as the next 800, or the car for the Aam junta

Re: New Maruti 800

Looks like Maruti have gone 'tall-boy' with the 'new' 800. My guess is that this is an all new platform and is probably going to be the cheapest Maruti that one can buy.

But with this, what about the Alto K10 that was launched recently? And the Estillo and the Wagon-R and the A-Star? Is Maruti looking to combat the Tata Nano with this new 800?

The only difference would be the pricing, it would be cheaper atleast by 40K than Alto and is being touted as the next rival to Nano. I feel the features would still be the same as Alto.

I feel Maruti would keep the present 800 as it is instead of positioning it below Alto.

Re: New Maruti 800

Well, it looks as an elongated Estilo. Is this the Cervo?
The old M800 looks are always apart. Very Iconic and classique. Hope they are not changed. They actually show the true charecter of the car - A plane jane and Jack of all trades.
I just love the old M800.
Its ease of driving, the perfect returning of the steering. They all are irreplaceable.

Nano is the definite target here.

As regards the scoop, it looks completely different from all the 800 generations. If they are indeed calling it the "800", it would be a completely revamped, reworked and totally different facelifted 800. I don't think Maruti will commit something as drastic as this to the current gen 800, since it's still on sale in minor cities and towns which don't have to follow emission norms.

I am thinking this will be the Indian "Cervo", and priced between 1.6L to 2.4L. Maruti might have revamped the Cervo's looks and based it on the Alto's platform - that would explain it's length and bonnet size. The tallness resembles the Cervo quite a bit, too.

Re: New Maruti 800

Yup, its just the M800 name they want to inherit and rest is all new!!

But this seems taller/bigger than Alto, doesnt it? Why would it be positioned below Alto?

Or is this the new Estilo? That seems closest bet to me.

Re: New Maruti 800

Well ,am a Tata fan boy,but still, i see a deathly rival to Nano and also Alto losing it's numero uno position.
Unless Tata does something to liven up the Nano, it's going to be flagged down, but have to wait till the new Nano variants including the diesel comes.
As the new 800 is not expected to have an oil burner version, making things even for both.

Re: New Maruti 800

If Amby can be sold , MM540's can be sold ,What was the problem with M800? They could have tweaked it for meeting new norms. It was a good ok car for point A-B transport.

Re: New Maruti 800

It will be tough for maruti to sell it below 2L with F8D.
Atmost they can think of selling a base variant which would be a no frills car at the same price.

But i feel the variant which will compete against NANO LX will be the one to look out as far as price is concerned.

My guess is , it will be upwards of 2.70 at least on road making it 40-50K costlier than NANO LX.
