While the SMS displayed details about Cruze, "no data found" for my 2004 Alto. Any idea what is the starting date for this database?

Thanks, all my vehicle details showed up correctly, am based in Bangalore. It gives the name of the 1st owner, which RTO it is registered to, the vehicle type, registration/fit but regn tax is shown as NA.
By the way I had a zen which was pre-owned & now sold, which when I checked is still showing up in the 1st owner's name... guess only the 1st registration is updated..

In fact this service is better for people like us to get details of goons and rash drivers like those in hit and run case.

The information I got on my car was absolutely correct, except for road tax details which was shown as "NA".

Are you getting the residential details too in this service? At least I am not getting it. I am just able to see the owner name, Registration place, and tax details.

Awesome utility. Works for all cars I tried in Pune. For my car it gives "NA" under road tax, whereas it should show "life time paid". Would anyone be knowing how to rectify this anomaly

could not get the details of my HR registered car through SMS but this site https://vahan.nic.in/nrservices/face...rchDetails.jsp showed the correct details. Unfortunately you have to input the last 5 digits of chassis number, which would make it impossible to use for hit and run vehicles etc

Checked with TN registered vehicles. Works well. Sometimes it takes time for the reply SMS. If an old vehicle has undergone any ownership change after 2003, it is reflected.

I do not remember any clause while signing registration forms that says that RTO can freely give my name based on vehicle number. Such information should be allowed to be accessed via proper procedure only, under the garb of digitization they can not provide such information without owners consent.

The same cars' information comes out properly on the vahan website.

Same here. Tried this on more than a couple of Mumbai and Karnataka Vehicles. Get the response only as 'No Default configured'. Wonder why? Server down?

I'm getting the same message for both my car and bike.

Even I am getting the same message since yesterday. Looks like they did not intend to make this service public, but only to certain registered numbers. They have probably identified the leak and plugged it.
