It's giving 34-36 Km per KG pretty reliably.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

Liked this set up of the tank below the front seat!!

Why couldnt Wagon R do something on the same lines?
It is a bigger and wider car and a larger tank could have been fixed.

This could free some much needed boot space and make the Waggie an even more VFM car!!

Woooh!! Thats an amazing figure you are getting. That means the running cost is almost Re.1/km (CNG in delhi is ard Rs.38/km).

Do you experience any loss of power when you are driving in CNG compared to petrol ?

The mileage you are getting is mouth watering .

How many kms does the Nano runs when you fill the CNG gas tank to its max capacity ?

I was being slightly conservative with the 34-36 Km per KG number... so guess you should be excited.

On a usual exclusive load of 4 KG of CNG, range is somewhere between 140-150 Km.

(Yes. If you do the math, we're talking 2-wheeler fuel cost numbers here.)

With AC *and* on CNG there is a noticeable drop in power which has an impact during lower gears but once coasting at the 60-80 Km per hour range - like on the Noida expressway - quite manageable.

It's no barn-burner though. "Sedate driving style" is the order of the day with this commuter focused ride.

BTW, AC is almost always on. And pretty effective too.

I have actually made it a practice to have luggage shipped via road in Nano to Chandigarh whenever our family of 5 takes the train over long weekends.

Costs all of Rs. 400 one way with a mix of Petrol and CNG and would be cheaper still if we had filling stations outside NCR.

But I'm not complaining :-)

Re: Tata Nano CNG

Latest on the Nano emax from a dealer :

Apparently the CX and LX have been discontinued with the CNG option and replaced by a single variant labelled XM

While the specifications were not received yet by them, the Ex-Showroom price (Mumbai) was listed @ 257073/- (as against 248380/- for the Twist XT).

Could the pricing and label nomenclature suggest PS on the CNG variant ?

XM sounds Zest inspired!
If it's the same nomenclature as Zest, M should mean the mid-range model. Therefore, I doubt if it'll have power steering.

From what I could see on http://www.tatanano.com/features-cng-emax.html, the XM does away with the Front Fog Lamp, Heater, and Front Power Windows while adding the Purple Body Color with Black Dashboard option.

Looks like Tata Motors wants me to be the only CNG Nano owner on Team-BHP :-|

That's curious. Who is devising their marketing strategy? If they have given up on the diesel Nano, they should be offering more options and features in the CNG model, including more colours. One of the justifications given for not launching the diesel was the availability of CNG model.

Re: Tata Nano CNG

There is no music system offered on the XM, as was the case with the earlier CNG variants.

Wonder if they feel that CNG variant users do not prefer music or there is some other reasoning to their offerings.

You're certainly not alone.

The vehicle has been doing duty quite well. Covered 30,000 KMS - already recovered close to half of what I spent in CNG / Diesel differential in just 3 years running.

Of course, our usage is not heavy with 90% pickup/drops between metro stations or bus-stops and the odd inter-city run every few months.

Ultra-low service bills (Rs. 1.5-2K) and negligible repair costs (Rs. 200 for quarter-glass replacement!) make things even sweeter.

The Nano is spacious, comfortable albeit no-frills and since we employ a driver - the heavy steering is no bother either.

Quite perfect as a 2'nd car for commuter / errand usage scenarios.

Nice to hear from you! Four months back, due to some unavoidable reasons, I had to buy a car. But as I didn't have too dip pockets I was looking for easy to own and easy to run car! Searched a lot and found Nano CNG as the only option. The nearest alternative the Alto 800 CNG seats almost 1.5 lakhs away from this beauty.

Nano offers many things better than Alto 800, that all of us know! Loving the car. Keep in touch so that we can share out thoughts about the car.

How are you measuring the FE? Since ARAI rating is 36 km/kg, your FE is rather high. I am getting around 22-23 km/kg (assuming 1l petrol = 1kg cng) in my new Nano (700 kms old).

No no! As long as you're getting 22-23kmpl, it's excellent mileage!

Mileage on a CNG car would be per kg, but the price per kg is different & mileage per kg is more. That's why the Nano has such a small (IIRC 5kg) CNG tank. I guess the CNG range is ~180-200kms.

Running cost on CNG works out cheaper than petrol. Overall cost benefit of CNG vs petrol would be if one uses the car extensively. I guess like ~12-15000 kms per year.

On petrol if you're getting 20+ kmpl in city, the car is running fine. Enjoy!
