Hope the govt gets its fuel pricing strategy right; and soon!
Manufacturers have been doing a lot of capacity building for their diesel variants.
If the govt decides to hike duties on diesel cars or decontrol diesel; many customers/manufacturers will burn their fingers.

Other that the analysis part the article also mentions that the diesel models which earlier commanded huge waiting list are now readily available.

Except for Ertiga there is hardly any model where customers has to wait for delivery. Even formerly bestselling cars like Maruti's Alto and DZire, and the Volkswagen Vento are easily available,

Also easily available are the Polo, Fabia, Maruti Ritz and Sx4 as well as Toyota's Etios and Liva, but takers are few. "Diesel was the big trigger for sales last year but no longer. Poor consumer sentiment has affected the entire market and diesel cars no longer guarantee robust sales," says Sumit Sawhney, vice president (sales & marketing) General Motors India.

TM Sales for June 2012.

Tata motors today reported three per cent decline in its total sales in June this year at 64,341 units.

Passenger vehicles sales for June were lower by 22 per cent to 17,244 units against 21,994 units sold in the same month last year

Sales of the Tata Nano were 5,605 units.The Indica range sales declined by 35 per cent to 5,332 vehicles .The Indigo range recorded sales of 2,658 units.The Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range were at 3,649 units in June
