A Kite hatchback wearing relatively less camouflage has been snapped by an IAB reader:



It looks like Tata have made more changes to differentiate the Kite from the Indica (visually, at least) than they did to differentiate the Bolt from the Vista.

Tata Kite based sedan caught testing at the Kari Motor Speedway in Tamil Nadu. Wondering if this will lead to creation of a sub-sub-compact sedan segment.

Already in the sub-compact sedan we have Zest competing with Amaze, Xcent and Dzire. In the next few months we will also have the new Ford Figo sedan.

It looks like Tata Motors which was the first manufacturer to launch a sub-compact sedan - Indigo, is set to create a new segment with the Kite sedan.

To me, this looks like Ford Fiesta. Though the test number plates might not indicate this, but the overall profile looks too much similar to new yet-to-arrive Ford Ka hatchback which will eventually replace Figo.

You know what, that was exactly what came to my mind when I first saw the picture on IAB - Hey, but isn't this the upcoming Ford Figo/Ka hatchback?

It looks like there are plenty of visual similarities between the Ford and the Tata, especially from the B-pillar onwards. In fact, without side by side images, the two camouflaged cars can easily be mistaken for each other. Only on closer examination do the differences become obvious. Here is a clearer photo of the Kite hatch with production tail lamps, courtesy IAB:



And here is the Figo hatch for comparison, courtesy ACI & IAB:



This does look like a little puzzle of spotting the differences, doesn't it?

I wonder if the two manufacturers are also thinking on these lines, and are planning to advance the launch of their respective products. Considering the fact that there is likely to be some overlap between these two in terms of pricing, the company which launches their product first can avoid accusations of being a copycat.

Edit: When viewed from this angle, the Kite hatchback has a few visual similarities to the Nissan Micra as well!

I feel the bonnet and windscreen profile is reminiscent of the original Indica. This could very well be the Kite Sedan, under test by Jayem Automotive on behalf of Tata Motors. Ford wont do this kind of design proto testing in India. They have much better proving ground available worldwide, attached to their design offices.

No it is not. look at the wheels. Sedan alloys are same as Kite hatchback. This is a TML product.

They are hiding the silhouette. Note tat there is considerable foam padding between the skin and the tape camouflage!

Tata Kite spied again. Looks like a nice, well proportioned compact hatch. For a change, we will see a new hatch from Tata with very less resemblance to Indica / Vista.

IAB has released a render of Tata Kite. Front has a slight resembelance to Maruti Celerio. Nonetheless it is a welcome departure from Indica silhouette.
