Hey Bond, Looking at the tone of your message, it seems you have a reliable source in Tata. Do keep posting the updates...

If they have the 2.2L for export markets, I would assume that they are done with endurance test etc.. If that is sorted out, I dont see a reason why they shouldn't be launching the new-engine for the Indian market also... We have a lot of people waiting for it (atleast on t-bhp) and 2.2L would only help the sales.

Cheers,
Su-47

Hey Su-47 will surely keep you posted about safari 2.2, right now safari production has increased drastically to nearly 80 vehicles daily. Will surely tell you when is it going to be launched in India.

Endurance test was over, almost a while ago. I also heard somebody saying that there were found to be issues: not minor, with the block head after running 1 lakh kms....

Is the Safari production increased for 3.0L DICOR or the new 2.2L one?

Can you explain further, like has the issue been sorted or is it like business as usual, launch the vehicle and then a V2 of the same so that the V1 customers bang their heads. (But however, Tata is good at retrofitting updates of serious nature at their cost)

All said and done, when is it going into production?

Well, reading each post related to the Dicor 2.2ltr does not give you an Idea when this largely improved DICOR is gonna hit us? I have tried speaking to a vendor for the TATAs here in Pune however he doesnt have that information. So can please anybody narrow the launch down to a month?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Launch as far as i know should happen in April 07.

I am not sure if the issue with block-head is resolved. I would say that for such an issue, there should ideally be another round of endurance test. Agreed that TATAs are good at retrofitting but we cant expect them to retrofit the Block-Head. and that would not even make sense as by the time customers would realise this, it would be over 75000 Kms for the customer safaris....

Not sure. There was one thread by Himanshugoswami where he said that he has a contact in TATA RnD who mentioned to him that there is an issue but did not specify it....

Spotted 2.2 on NH4 in Pune

Hi
I witnessed the sheer acceleration of a spanking new chocolate colored 2.2ltr dicor export model a few hours ago..(LHD)
Man what a acceleration with a/c on and 4 tata people on board.. doing some kind of test run. by the time i saw this overtaking from the left (i was on 70) and by the time i started chasing and needle crossed 100km.. that 2.2 was almost a KM ahead on me :(
Somehow managed to sneak behind this new safari , when it stopped at the signal at wakad police chowky, I got down and had a quick look at it (alas I was without a camera). Soon the signal turned green and that new beast was gone again.............

I managed to read properly 2.2ltr dicor on the the chittha which was pasted on the quater glass panel. On the inside, the interior was beige and had smaller dials on the dash. all leather uphostelery.
Engine was quiet silent as compared to mine as i circled the new SUV.
But the sheer fastness and silence of the engine noise really was WOW part.. Nothning major changes on the outside
Ill try to click pics in future if i get another chance..
Till then ciao
