Am answering this for you,

T Cross global launch is in November 2018. For India it could never be earlier than this, if not in 2019.

Speculated (at 4.2m L) to rival Renault's Captur (and Kaptur in Brazil)in Europe it is likely to fall in the INR 15+ lakh range.

The Golf can only be a niche product. It can obviously not be a volume generating product in our country. But I would not be surprised if it sells a few hundred units every month. The Golf has a huge following internationally and hence might find takers in India.

Then the question remains - why would VW spend time, money and effort in bringing in a niche when they can use that to launch something like a Tiguan which might get them better volumes ?

PS: i am a big Golf fan having owned one for 2 years in Germany

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Tata Motors and VW Group sign MoU for joint cooperation. Platform sharing and joint sourcing for Tata , VW and Skoda Products.

With this the new Product portfolio for VW in India will known once the details emerge on 10th March.

Quote:
It's too early to tell how the Tata-VW alliance will pan out and the specific models that will be built on the common platform. For Tata Motors, the partnership means massive economies of scale and a way to defray the huge costs of developing the AMP platform. For VW and Skoda, a tie-up with Tata holds the only hope of making a dent in the Indian market. The German automaker's high-cost structure and huge gaps in its product portfolio have effectively rendered it non competitive in India.

VW- Tata alliance announced. While still many details yet to be finalized. Here is what is speculated .

1. The alliance will spurn a low cost sub brand ( 13 th)for the VAG group below its SKODA and SEAT.

2.The first vehicle to roll out in 2019.

3. Next Gen Polo for India, Skoda Fabia and Tata's premium hatch X451 will underpin this platform.

So we will neither get the MQB nor MQB AO. We will not be aligned with the strategy as in Brazil ( as the reveal in Geneva shows another strategy) and cars will built to a cost.

Now clear yet is will SKODA, VW and the new brand co-exist with VW and Skoda moving more premium?

Thanks VW for making things easier for me. Am not interested in such budget brand cars even if you built your cars like a tank!

Quote:
Experts also suggest that Volkswagen is poised with its plan to debut a budget brand in the near future, positioned below its Skoda and SEAT divisions. And if Volkswagen gets its hands on Tata’s AMP (Advanced Modular Platform), VW would save millions on development costs. The latest rumors on the subject imply that VW will launch the budget brand in 2019

VW or any company for that matter will not stick to its core strengths if it is not accepted by the majority. Doing business in India means you have to be a low cost player. I guess VW has done the right thing. With the new proposed laws like mandatory crash test, emissions etc Will surely keep a check on the manufacturers.

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Volkswagen presents its 2017 Global plans ( EU /S America/ N America/China). India to continue with face-lifts ( other than Passat and Tiguan)

- New POLO MQB ( Europe)
- T ROC (Europe)
- Polo SEDAN - VIRTUS ( S America)
- New Jetta ( North America)

Volkswagen India: The Way Forward-capture.jpg

India plans -speculation ?

Budget Brand to be born in 2018 - A new Brand and Logo, Primarily for the Chinese market.

But this brand can also spill into India , Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe markets. Not clear yet if they will come under VW or the new sub- brand.

Skoda - budget cars from the VW-Tata alliance.

Quote:
The first “economy vehicles” are slated to go on sale in 2018 and will be followed by others in 2019, according to VW. In the People’s Republic (at least), these will be sold under a newly established brand that doesn’t have a name yet. The China-bound cars might be sold in other regions of the world, such as Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, India, and the Baltic region, but it’s too soon to say whether it will actually happen.

VW shows its plan again at its meeting yesterday declaring its Q1 results.

Shows its EU , S America , China and US plans. If we are aligned with its Brazil plan or will get products with diluted design under the pretext of an alliance, only time will tell.

Wow! No plan for India. I wonder why we spend our money on companies that don't have us on the priority.

I guess everybody should get what they deserve.

Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Is it likely that we will not see a new gen Polo and Vento until 2020 or 2021? That's 4 years from now and I wonder how VW will sustain interest from the customer until then. Agreed, there are new cars like the Tiguan,Kodiaq, Octavia refresh etc, but none of this is below 15 lakhs and all of these combined together won't even make up 2000 units a month. Skoda and VW need to get at least one new car each under the 15 lakh segment by next year, which is very unlikely. In the time frame they are talking about, there will be an all new Honda city, probably an all new Ciaz and what not!

Not sure why they could not have conceived an under 4 m compact SUV based on the Polo. This could have kept the customer interest alive for at least the interim period.

There may be a temporary platform introduced and used till the time the new one is realized. So yes there will be refreshed polos and ventos but without too much new investments.

My doubt will be about the compact SUVs. Wonder when and how will they be introduced

Two things can happen either we get the modified VW cars (S American bound )built on the MQB A0 (modified) platform with 'Premium' pricing OR VW might decide , due to cost reasons, give us the cars being designed with the Chinese partner( VW’s local joint venture FAW)

Quote:
The aim is for the new marque to add to Volkswagen’s 2.99 million 2016 sales in China, and after a settling-in period there target Mexico, Brazil and even India.
Quote:
We changed this strategy early last year, because in China the market research was quite easy to see that when we need a budget car, we also need a budget SUV.

“If we had added one SUV, then it’s quite easy to have two versions of that if we change the wheelbase and add a third seating row

Quote:
Volkswagen is working to deliver the initial two-model range using the PQ architecture, proving the brand will be based on a front-wheel-drive strategy. The SUV would feature a hang-on all-wheel-drive system. “It won’t be off MQB,” . “The brand will use some MQB components, but not the MQB architecture. If you compare this to Dacia and what it is doing, that’s more like it.”
