At least they named this honestly - Urban Cruiser. Urban = don't dare to go off the road; Cruiser = don't drive enthusiastically. Basically, just drive sedately within the confines of paved roads.

Wouldn't it be more economical for Toyota to just sell their brand logo and open up their service centres to MS Cars (something like a MASS)?

This will be an important car for Toyota, their sales are nothing to write home about. But only Petrol will be a major deterrent for Toyota, MS can still pull it off as seen in July Sales of the Brezza (7K units highest amongst rivals) with only a petrol! I hope the changes made to the car are more significant than a grill change like in the Glanza.

According to a close source (very closely worked with Etios Liva from design to manufacturing line) of mine who works for Toyota (TKM), the car comes out of the manufacturing line with a Toyota badge. Toyota guys work only on the sales and promotion part. Atleast this was the case with Glanza and Baleno. Even the folks working on the project were wondering as to why Toyota not thinking of bringing in their own sub-brand like Daihatsu Raize.

For now, what Maruti/Suzuki get back from Toyota is their know-how on hybrid and EV technology.

TOYOTA had enough time since they signed the MOU with SMIL to change the brezza significantly unlike Glanza . ( > 2 years )
I feel they will bring enough changes to the base vehicle to make it stand out . above all the segment is brewing hot with lot of models from competitors are to be launched in coming months .
They surely cannot just change the grill & badge . Having said that there will surely be no changes in the body panels though .
It is going to be a more significant & important model for Toyota to keep the cash coming in & the dealership's busy at these challenging times

Looks like it will have a double slatted grill like the Glanza and that will probably the only thing to visually distinguish it from the Brezza.

Considering the name "Urban Cruiser" and what is shown around the T logo in the teaser, I'm hoping at least they make some attempt to make a grille that pays tribute to the "Land Cruiser" with whom this car is trying to appear related.

Given the dimensions & shape of the headlamps, It might be possible to pull off a shape of the grille similar in shape but smaller in size than the Land Cruiser.

In my humble opinion, re-badged Brezza should be much more acceptable (compared to Baleno) with a T logo for its superior build quality and 4-star NCAP rating. Moreover, we can look forward to seeing a couple of positives - less flashy grill and well priced automatics. I hope that Toyota charges 40k less for the mild-hybrid tech (as in the case of Glanza/Baleno) bringing the premium for AT to 1 lakh. Maruti asking 1.4 lakh for the 4-speed TQ is atrocious.

1) Another fake SUV
2) No AWD/4x4 (yet again, as expected)
3) 4-speed autobox? Is it 1990s?
4) Full of gadgetry probably 70% won't use
5) 104hp? Seriously? Then I forgot that it's Toyota we're talking about

About time someone gave us a proper AWD/4x4 with an Autobox (no, not mutually exclusive, Duster) that is affordable (under 20L). I am watching you, Mahindra. Thar has big shoes to fill.

On many occasions, I had to explain to some of my friends and family that Baleno / Glanza are literally the same car. This should most probably be the case with majority of the population, who will be of the opinion that Glanza is a Toyota’s product.
If this is the case with a product (Baleno/ Glanza) that is almost identical in every aspect, I wonder what will happen if Toyota manages to bring significant visual changes to Brezza/ Urban Cruiser.
I’m pretty sure that people will definitely believe Toyota’s tagline “The youngest urban SUV from TOYOTA”.

These rebadged cars are just about cheating your customers. And you'll dilute your brand over time as well.

Having said that, urban cruiser might be a car that I might look on as a second car. Not because Toyota did anything special here. But just because Brezza is one of my favourite rental cars whenever I visit places.

The only reason why I might think of urban cruiser is the consistent service experience from Toyota in cities. Again, if it's my primary car, I'll prefer Brezza over urban cruiser because Maruti has better service coverage across the length and breadth of the country.

Fortuner-ish styling looks good , Toyota may charge a hefty premium for this job else it may eat into Brezza sales .
It will perform better than Glanza.
