5 year / unlimited km warranty package for Tata Harrier announced

Tata Motors has announced a 5 year / unlimited km extended warranty package called Pentacare Warranty for the Harrier. It can be purchased for Rs. 25,960 within 90 days of the date of sale of the Harrier.



The Pentacare Warranty package covers manufacturing defects in parts like the engine and transmission, engine management system, air conditioning, fuel system and fuel pump as well as driver information system among others. The package also covers malfunctioning of the clutch and suspension up to 50,000 km.

The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 138 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm and comes paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The standard warranty offered on the Harrier is 2 years / 1,00,000 km.

So does this mean that once you purchase the said package, your Harrier will be under warranty for a total of 7 years? Or is it just a total of 5 years with unlimited mileage.

If it is the latter then it's quite expensive at Rs. 25,960 since I bought the 2 year extended warranty package for my Hexa for just Rs. 15000.

Still in either case it's a welcome move by Tata and this should instill some confidence for the potential buyers of Harrier.

That would also take the pricing of the Harrier above the Hector top-end now, given 5 years/ unlimited km warranty is standard on the Hector (which also provides 5 years RSA as well standard).

Ideally, there should not be a premium amount at all. Nothing gives the customer more confidence than a standard 5 year unlimited warranty. Atleast for a short period of time, I think they should offer that warranty free of cost. They need that for rebuilding their customer's confidence.

All these warranty packages are ussually based on tie ups with insurance companies. May be their own analysis suggests them that such a warranty will take their costs to unsustainable levels.

Since reliability of the Harrier is moot point over here, a 5 year warranty does allay fears - but why charge for it? Don't they have enough confidence in the car? If newbie MG Hector can provide it FOC without fear, so should Tata Motors.

KIA is charging INR 26532/- for the same, whereas internationally they offer 7 years standard warranty IIRC.

No doubt both are on a bit higher side specially when extended warranties tend to eliminate few items covered in standard warranties.

Tata don't need this extended warranty even if they just concentrate on good after sales & service, & iron out the quality kinks, they've a winner in their hands.

Hands down, Tata MUST improve the overall product packaging with the Harrier. As pointed out by fellow bhpians the Harrier leaves with a lot to be desired even though it is miles ahead compared to previous Tata cars. These niggles will definitely play their part against the charts when they launch the 7 seater version of the Harrier.



Second, Tata MUST improve quality of customer handling folks, customer touchpoints and the Marketing efforts - else it is only a downward spiral.

Use the Safari badge with pride

The "Reclaim Your Life" campaign for the Tata Safari is still one of best ads by an Indian carmaker till date. It almost makes anyone to buy one, though Safari has issues of its own. Harrier deserves such a campaign if not more.

Hi folks, when I got quote from Tata Showroom in Hyderabad, it mentioned 2+2 year extended warranty than 5 year warranty. @Folks who considered/ bought Harrier recently, has this 5 year Warranty offering been discontiued?
