Re: Toyota Hilux pickup | EDIT: Bookings now closed

Hello everyone,

A little late to the party but just wanted to join in with some news of my own. After a few seconds of deliberation, I booked a Metallic Grey High MT with Nippon Toyota Kochi.

I saw someone on this thread mention deliveries committed by the end of February/early March but my Sales Manager seems to be hinting at April. Any updates here will be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Toyota Hilux pickup | EDIT: Bookings now closed

South African Hilux GR Sport is getting an even more uprated 2.8L diesel engine with 224 ps and 550 Nm it's not as much as the V6 Amarok's 600Nm but very close.

This engine can very much be the most torquiest 4 cyl diesel engine!!

Re: Toyota Hilux pickup | EDIT: Bookings now closed

In Brazil, the front end swap of the Hilux with an SW4 (known as the Fortuner in India) remains a fairly common practice. It will be interesting to know if the same gains popularity here. I would guess not, as the Hilux will remain fairly niche, and a much rarer product.

Re: Toyota Hilux pickup | EDIT: Bookings now closed

Little birdie from the Toyota dealership has hinted me that Hilux launch may have been shelved as of now !

The Hilux was supposed to be launched in March. Dealerships were asked to maintain sufficient funds available and finances arranged for test drive cars as well. However there is no news of when the display or the test drive cars shall arrive.

The Hilux was going to be localised highly owing to commonalities of the same with Fortuner. However, some critical part shortage have lead to this concern.

All this has lead to the delay in launch of the product and the next tentative date could be in May / June !

The Hilux was unveiled on youtube on the 20th of January. It has been more than a month since then and Toyota has floated nothing about the product. When have we seen such a strange marketing tactic before?

The way Toyota has kept silent post the initial product teasers are making me believe that this rumour is indeed true. Still unable to understand the underlying cause of the delay which could be any of the following reason:

~ Toyota doesn't want to mix up two product launches in a month and wants to bring in the refreshed Glanza first.

~ Toyota actually has some supplies constraint. If this is the case then its simply unbelievable that a company of the stature of Toyota has botched the launch of such an iconic product

~ They have not received the response to the product that they anticipated. And want to brush the entire product under the carpet.

This eerie silence from Toyota is strange indeed.

Spoke to Sales Advisor from Wasan Toyota. I was informed that there are huge number of bookings made than Toyota anticipated (around 35k-40k), almost 150 bookings have been made in Wasan Toyota dealership itself and that’s why there is a delay in launch of the vehicle. Sounds pretty lame excuse but is it even remotely possible?

Toyota Hilux, now seen at dealerships.

Quote:
The company was all set to launch the pickup truck in March with deliveries scheduled to begin from April. However, launch of Hilux in India has been delayed. It is now expected to be launched in April, with deliveries expected to commence from May 2022 onwards.

Ahead of launch, first units of the Toyota Hilux have arrived at dealership.

Re: Toyota Hilux pickup | EDIT: Bookings now closed

It's direct competitor, the Isuzu D-max is starting at 15 lakhs on-road for the S-cab variant with 4 doors and an integrated(not commercial) pickup bed. It would be 'interesting' to see how Toyota manages to price Hilux.

S-cab On Road Price

S-cab features

Voah voah!!!

In my head, the S-cab (yellow plates with the 2.5l) is 10-12lakhs OTR and the Hi-lander (white plates with the 1.9l) is 17-19 lakhs.

Well, Toyota could launch a Hilux (low rider with 2.4l) at ~15-16 lakhs OTR, but why should they? When they can have fat profits with lifestyle versions.

Also in Toyota's defence, the D-max we have is a generation old.

S-cab On Road Price

S-cab features
S Cab is not a competitor to Hilux. It competes with the Bolero Camper. Everything is downgraded from VCross, made for India engine based on old Tavera block, same for loads of mechanicals. Its a low cost car in International D Max body.

Isuzu V-Cross, 1 generation + 1 facelift older retails around 30 onroad, there is noways Toyota will try to match that.

As such Isuzu is not a competitor to Hilux in general, they dont have enough numbers to pose any risk to Hilux. Toyota will have to carve a new Niche Pickup market. If that goes well, Isuzu surely will try to ride the wave with new gen D-Max.

For Hilux, I expect 40 lakhs onroad, 33-34 ex showroom. Deliveries might begin by mid April.

Hilux prices announced. (Courtesy motorbeam insta handle)

4x4 Std MT : 33.99 lakhs
4x4 MT High : 35.8 lakhs
4x4 AT High : 36.8 lakhs

So effectively 40 lakhs on road in Bangalore. Obviously, being Hilux, it will have takers as always.

I picked up a 4X4 MT Fortuner at 35.8L ex-showroom in Oct-2021.
The High variant would touch 45L on road in Bangalore.

That pricing seems to be very high for hilux - For the High MT, it is 1.1L cheaper than Fortuner.
So not much price reduction for a 10 speaker music system, additional seats, Rear AC, Powered Boot and all that eh?
