Discovered couple more useless features in the new Camry:

Head-up Display: A real eyesore and total distraction at night. Because I’ve kept it off forever, I even forgot about it’s existence
It can be slightly useful during daytime because the Camry comes with a sad “power meter” instead of a tachometer. This HUD incorporates a tiny digital type tachometer.

Steering up/down movement: After turning the car on/off respectively. Seemed fantastic for first week, then I realised that it’s of not much use. Unless one sits high up with steering at lowest possible position, this feature too is pointless and only good for show-off. As you may have guessed, after the first week, it was turned off.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

The most useless feature in my Creta is the Bluelink voice command. It almost never works except for sunroof . The second most useless feature is Android Auto, Apple Car Play. I think the native Nav system is accurate enough and gives real time traffic updates as well ( if at all required). Also I am never comfortable using music off my mobile so its always a usb for me.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

Some of the rarely used features in my Ford Endeavour:-

1) Cruise control- some may agree some may not.
2) 3rd row seats - Mainly used for luggage and not passengers.
3) CD player - I think this is the most common feature not used as its outdated technology and everyone uses Bluetooth, USB etc.
4) Semi auto park assist.
5) 2nd row centre arm rest.
6) Cigarette lighter.
7) Auto rain sensing wipers.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

Never Used : AM (MW) Tuner on the Car Audio. Always FM, CD, Aux or Bluetooth.

Used Child-Lock for rear doors when my daughter was a toddler. (She still managed to roll down the window pane using the manual rollers in my Santro Xing !!)

Always use the rear-seat belts on our Highway travels after Gopinath Munde’s death. And they’ve proven useful too, for us.

Also Auto-Climate Control is very useful & is always used except for in Winters. Appreciate its utility whenever I drive the Santro Xing after the EcoSport.

Have also used the Intermittent Wiper Speed Setting once to set it to a faster level.

My father never uses a sunvisor & keeps service invoice envelope on it & whenever I habitually pull it down to block the sun, the papers always fall in my lap while on the move !!

One question I have for the people with air purifiers installed in their cars. If the floorwell or floor mats are dust laden, how does it affect the performance of the purifier ?

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

Interesting post. Here is my list:

Rear Fog Lamps- rarely

Cigarette Lighter- never (I don't smoke and no smoker has asked me to help with this lighter)

Auto Mode of AC- I never use this feature as I lose control of air circulation

Cooled Glove Box- never used it.

Bolding mine for relevance.

Well, this makes me curious. You mention only the rear fog lamps. What about the front? Have you had reasons to use them at all? I ask because whenever there's a reason to use the fronts (in fog as they're meant to be used) you have reason to use the rears too.

Cheers

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

While buying my car, I was pretty specific with what I needed and what I didn't - so my car wasn't overloaded with any needless gizmos to begin with. I can happily say that almost all 'features' of my car are well utilized - starting with modern amenities like Auto AC and cruise control to some niche touches, like the sunglass holder and the 12v in the boot. Nothing goes unutilized - not even the cubbyholes!! But well, if I have to nitpick - probably the rear cabin lights are the least used in my car!!

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

My car, a Duster, does not have many features but there are still a few which I rarely use:
  • Rear Defogger - those embedded heated elements have never done duty. Scared also of the heater remaining on in some cases to damage the glass.
  • Child Lock - Don’t have children sitting unattended in the rear yet.
  • Headlamp Leveller - Once its set, its set. I never touch it.
  • 4WD Lock - Very rarely.
  • ESP Off - Only once or twice on closed roads just to see the light glow in the dash. It actually is never fully off. It comes back on if the system detects excessive wheel spin.

Front Fog lamps- yes. For Jeep, front fog lamps can be configured to light up and illuminate side of the road when turning. So, fog lamps are getting used for me.

For Optra, I usually turn on fog lamps with parking lights during evenings (It is not dark enough to turn on headlamps).

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

Here are the least used features in my Creta 2020:

- OEM navigation system: I know there are fans but I have never felt a need to switch from Google Maps, which has far more meta-data like timings and phone numbers as well as faster updates on traffic/route closures.

- Bluelink voice command: Total gimmick when you can use Google Assistant

- Auto dimming IRVM: My old Honda City didn't have it and I rarely felt a need for it. Maybe its my seating position but I only get glare from ORVMs.

- Paddle shifters: After I started switching from Eco mode to Sports mode using Triptronic function, I've totally stopped using the paddle shifters

- Perfume dispenser: Although I personally love perfume, I prefer them on me rather than in my car

- Panoramic sunroof: My car's rear seat is rarely occupied and hence the panoramic view is rarely admired.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

In the city: 5th gear. (4th gear is rare too!)
Almost (99% of the time) never: Rear seats! Rarely have passengers.

Need a 2-door, small (affordable) convertible for the city! The Swift Sport in a 2-seat avatar perhaps? Good to dream, I guess.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

1st Gen S-Cross 1.6 Alpha here:

1. Cruise Control - Never used this in India.
2. Navigation System - I prefer Apple Car Play/Android Auto. The in built navigation system is laggy. Google Maps is familiar & easy to use. In fact, Apple Car Play is my default in car entertainment.

Every other feature has been used at least once. In fact, we are finding it hard to replace (read: upgrade) from this car.

Re: What are the most rarely used features in your car?

Gears 4 & 5. I live in Mumbai. Once I got an empty stretch of road and pushed into 5th gear. My car responded with "Wow, I didn't know this existed."
