India-spec Volkswagen Virtus spied; to replace Vento

Earlier this month, Skoda unveiled the Slavia. Now, Volkswagen is also planning to launch a new mid-size sedan that is expected to replace the ageing Vento.



Sold in international markets as the Virtus, the sedan has already been spotted testing in India. However, the latest spy images reveal an India-spec Virtus with a right-hand drive.



A convoy of Virtus sedans was recently spotted in Jaipur. The car looks like a typical VW sedan with understated looks. It appears to have a slim grille flanked by twin-pod headlamps, 5-spoke alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna.



The Virtus will be based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as the Slavia. The car is expected to get a similar equipment list and the same powertrain options. These include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 113 BHP and 178 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor producing 148 BHP and 250 Nm. While a 6-speed manual transmission will be offered as standard, the 1.0L engine could get a 6-speed automatic option, while the 7-speed DSG will be available with the 1.5L engine.



The Volkswagen Virtus is expected to debut in May 2022.

^ It's interesting to see BLACK Interiors & the Alloy wheels definitely look much better & seem larger than 16"ers offered on the Skoda Slavia.

I have a feeling this will be the better looking car, especially in the GT Line trim.

The way Slavia is the new Laura; the Virtus is the new Jetta. They might be bang in the price at which Jetta and Laura retailed for in the yesteryears (1.0 at petrol prices and 1.5 at diesel prices) Only thing missing would be the muti link rear and not as much build quality ( but acceptable) but hey they will be loaded better in the top end trims.

The ride height looks lower than the Slavia.
I hope they keep it that way.

I wonder how VW will price this new car. Traditionally, VW products will command a premium over their sister cars. But, Skoda has an equal, if not a more premium perception in our market.

Will be interesting to see how they differentiate the two models too, if one of them turns out to be noticeably more expensive than the other.

I think the car in spy shots is Slavia & not VW Virtus, if you see the front grill, it has vertical slits which is a Skoda grill & design.

The car in the spy shots shown in the post #61 is the VW Virtus. The car shown in post #63 is the Skoda Slavia as mentioned by the poster, who was just comparing the alloys between the Virtus and the Slavia.

So VW has started testing their Cup Edition, TSI Edition, Black & Red and so forth. We should be ready to have newer variants within a month from the Launch of the real 'facelifted' Vento.

But I am glad VW & Skoda are not letting Sedans die due to a surge of Compact SUVs.

^looks like the same reduced instrument cluster is likely to be on offer in the Virtus unlike the Brazilian Virtus which gets a nice active into display cluster. Proper analog dials with a coloured MID between them would have been nice like the one in the 2018 Octavia.

It will replace the Volkswagen Vento in the country as a premium offering, like the Skoda Rapid replacement, Skoda Slavia.

Volkswagen has sadly lost the plot in India. They are simply here to make Skoda look better. Their lack of dedication to the India market is apparent in their half baked launches of vehicles with hardly any features that justify the premium pricing and most of all, their promotional materials are either RHD model ones or talk about features that are not even offered here (Tiguan brochure is one such example). Yes their cars are solidly built but what's the point when five years on you have a hole in your pocket because of expensive spares.

They really need to do some soul searching and revamp their India outlook. Otherwise better to bow out and let Skoda do the job.

Incidentally I have a VW so what I say, i say from experience. First three years pure bliss. Next two - let's just say I live crank to crank

(Mods sorry if this sounds ranty but it's a genuine feeling).
