re: Mahindra TUV300 facelift spied sans camouflage. EDIT: Launched as Bolero Neo at Rs. 8.48 lakhs

The Tank gets new alloys and spoilers, but no roof rails? Why? Cleaning the roof with be quite a task now.

re: Mahindra TUV300 facelift spied sans camouflage. EDIT: Launched as Bolero Neo at Rs. 8.48 lakhs

Looks like Mahindra had a lot of Bolero badges lying around and they decided to stick it onto slow moving TUV and called it New.

The overall design would have worked had the thing been wider than it is. Narrow MUV-esque chassis plus suv styling never works.

IIRC, post Thar's GNCAP performance, Mahindra had announced it would only sell 4+ rated cars ( also discontinued 6 seater thar in the process)
Any idea if the Bolero Neo would be safety compliant? The current bolero doesn't look or feel so.

That's quite an assertion boss! The TUV/Bolero Neo is only slimmer than the Fortuner by 5mm. Any wider and you have a Hummer unfit for Indian conditions.

Isn't the Marazzo wider than them both?
Also the tuv 300 manual lists width without mirrors as 1795 mm.

Hmm..I had the Tbhp official review's assessment in mind -

At 1,835 mm, not only is the TUV300 wider than the Scorpio and Innova, it's just 5 mm slimmer than the Fortuner!
Wonder if the official review measured its girth with its pachydermic ORVMs out-flung!

For the sake economising marketing spends, it makes sense to rationalise and simplify brand architecture.

Take BMW, Mercedes for example. You might have been asleep for 10 years. But when you wake up you still understand Mercedes C class, E class and S class. Similarly, you would be able to place alongside 3, 5 and 7 series. You don’t even need to look at the price.

I am happy Mahindra is possibly moving to the XUV 5oo, 7oo and 9oo product pyramid. IMHO calling 7 seat Harrier, the Safari makes very little sense. Ditto Creta/ Alcazar. Hyundai, which has always been profitable, can probably still afford to do this. For Tata Motors (cars division), that doesn’t make money, in fact has been losing bag fulls for relatively long, simply cannot afford it.

With TUV3oo ceasing to exist, Mahindra will have one less brand to advertise.

re: Mahindra TUV300 facelift spied sans camouflage. EDIT: Launched as Bolero Neo at Rs. 8.48 lakhs

The TUV300 sales peaked during 2016 and 2017, after it was launched in 2015. Initially it was launched with a three cylinder diesel (1493 cc, 3 Cylinders Inline, 3 Valves/Cylinder, DOHC) to claim the then Central Excise rebate (now GST) on small cars. It was only around 2018 that the TUV300 Plus got the MHawk CRDi 2.2 L of the Scorpio, if I am not mistaken.

But the sales have been dismal after 2018 and it hovers around a few hundred units every month. The production of the TUV300 was stopped recently to make way for the new facelifted edition of 2021. The KUV100 is also another laggard in respect of sales from M&M.

Hence, with just a few hundred units selling every month, is it wise to go for a refresh to buoy up sales ? Maybe, it could sell a few hundred units more after this edition is launched. The competition is too tough in this segment with the new entries from China, Europe and the Far East.

Their XUV300 now doing well and is most likely also cannibalising the TUV300 sales. So M&M has an inhouse flesh eater (pls read as "metal eater") ! And with the Thar going strong is it worthwhile wasting synergies on these laggard models like the TUV300 and the KUV100? The newer Bolero, Scorpio and to some extent the refreshed XUV500 will always be the auto maker's bread and butter. All the synergies of the auto maker needs to be well utilised on their core competencies.

M&M should better discontinue the TUV300 and the KUV100 and enter these segments later on, with much better offerings.

Wow - it looks quite promising. This trim also seems to include a touch screen. If they have actually included the 1.5 4 cyl engine from the XUV3oo in this car - this will be by far the "most SUV" of all the sub4m SUV cars out there right now. Finally M&M would have a very well kitted out & rugged vehicle ticking almost all boxes if not all - something that NOBODY seems to be able to achieve on this side of 20L (or even the other side for that matter!). A spacious, rugged ladder on frame car with a good cabin, sufficient creature comforts and capability to carry 7 people, with a powerful diesel engine that is a joy to drive! Practically - it will better the current Scorpio in most real-world aspects.

And that engine comes with it - it will join the THAR in being the car I'd have owned instead of my current car had it arrived at the right time.
As of now - I'm not fully convinced that they'll put the 4cyl engine in the Bolero NEO though. (No clue if they've ever thought of putting that engine in an RWD setup in fact. Even went to the length of making the huge Marazzo FWD with a ladder frame!) Mostly they'll continue with the 3 cyl one that the TUV3oo had. Just cant convince myself that a really PERFECT car can be reality .

I hope unlike Tata - M&M won't charge a really funny premium for just a dark colour!

Mahindra themselves have mentioned that the Bolero Neo will have a mHawk100 engine.

The site description says, Bolero Neo will have
- Italian interiors (whatever that means, maybe Italian leather seat covers)
- mHawk100 engine.

I honestly find this act of camouflaging cars at dealerships with only a few days left before the official launch quite amusing. More so because internet is flooded with pictures and videos of uncamouflaged cars and I fail to understand the logic behind this.

I am hoping that the release the Bolero Neo + variant as well. It will be the most sorted "simple" Jeep(!) south of 15L. I may be day dreaming, but any chances of it coming with front facing 3rd row? Were any test mules spotted with this set up?

re: Mahindra TUV300 facelift spied sans camouflage. EDIT: Launched as Bolero Neo at Rs. 8.48 lakhs

Needs a killer price tag in order to induce some jazba into it's flagging sales. Atleast for a quarter or two, so that people see the facelift versions on the road as a Bolero.

Why not bring back another name tag like the Armada? Something to differentiate it from the current Bolero that is still doing decent numbers.
Plus an auto/AMT variant as well helping target a more urban clientele as well.
