Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Well, our last vehicle the GX 470 completed about 355000 kms (221000 miles)

The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car-img_5110.jpg

We got her at 156000 miles, and went through one set of coil pack change, and one set of spark plug changes, along with 10,000 mile oil and filter changes.

Other stuff was just mods like bumper and lift kit along with bigger tires

Timing best was done at 140,000 miles, just before we purchased the vehicle.

So I would say, pretty reliable and trouble free ownership

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Here's my contribution to this thread. The only car i have ever owned which i have held this long, and will continue to hold on for some time to come.

Year, make, model & engine : 2010 Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero/Shogun

Current odo reading : 207,066 kms

The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car-img_7423.jpg

Major work done : Just regular maintenance, nothing else.

How much longer do you plan to retain her? : Had a brief itch to replace with something else, but the value proposition this offers, as well as current market conditions made me decide to spruce it up a bit and soldier on. Not having a car loan is an added motivation.

The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car-img_3254_2-copy.jpg

I've been able to do quite some DIY maintenance on this car, which includes bulb replacements, headlight restoration, mod for the wiper nozzle with that from a Honda for a better spread, applying rubber grease to the steering column when it creaked, and many more. While most were successful, one wasn't so.

Most mods to spruce the car have been functional, including adding an ARB Frontier long range fuel tank of 128L capacity, as well as updating the car with a new Sony XAV-AX1000 headunit for Apple CarPlay.

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

This thread deserves a special mention and applause as well

We used to own a 2005 Innova(bought in 2012 from our company and it was replaced with another Innova at same time when the odo was more than 2.5L Kms and later on we had to sell it off to my aunt in 2014 due to parking issues and the odo at the time of selling was more than 3L Kms),which had run more than 4L Kms without any rebuild before it met with a major accident in 2019 and it was declared total loss and my uncle again bought a 2015 Innova(the one before the Crysta)an year and a half ago and was purchased after 3 months of accident of 2005 Innova, which had run 54000 Kms at the time of purchase and now,it has run more than 80,000 Kms.

The 2012 Innova VX,which my dad's friend had bought as a replacement of 2005 Innova, has run more than 2.5L Kms(which is still there)and still looks like a new car even after more than 8 years of its age and now, they are planning to replace it with Kia Carnival or Innova Crysta.

In similar manner,we used to have a 2000 model Qualis, which we sold it off after doing more than 4L Kms with engine rebuild(yes,we had to get it done as the engine got seized due to the mistake of our previous driver, who is no more now, didn't check whether the engine oil level is low or not). That had happened in 2009 when I was just 11 year old and had to sell it off in 2010 as we had downgraded to Swift VDI.

Well, this might be an off-topic,we own a 2011 Innova VX,which was bought used from close acquaintance(who replaced this Innova with a Fortuner and he eventually replaced his more than 2L run 2008 Innova in 2017 with a Crysta)in 2016 when the odo was just 75k Kms at that time(yes,it was a rare find for us at that time as we generally see an Innova of similar age or more doing more than 1-1.5L Kms at the same time),is 25k Kms short of 2L Kms(present odo is 1.75L Kms)and still runs like a dream without any issues and recently,we had done a 1400 Kms trip to Tirupati without any single problem or issue. We wanted to see the odo crossing 2L Kms by this year. But,sadly we might not be able to see that figure as we are planning to selling off the Innova this year.

I remember my dad's friend, who had an Innova VX 2011(similar model as our present Innova)had run more than 3,80,000 Kms before he sold it for Fortuner AT in 2019.

In another instance,I've seen my dad's friend's Fortuner MT,which was bought in 2014 as brand new and this one has run more 2L Kms in almost 7 years of purchase and this one is well maintained as well.

And,during our Innova's 1,60,000 Kms service,I've seen a Crysta AT doing more than 2,30,000 Kms and still looks good as new and this speaks a lot about the reliability of Toyota.

That's the reason why my dad and his friends still prefer the brand Toyota due to its reliability and can run for lacs of Kms if maintained well.

Damn what an inspirational thread. Gives me reason to hold on to my Vento for 6 more years till it turns 15! Running 1.2L so will try to hit the big 2 before that! And congratulations everyone on their incredible cars. Brilliant!

With the Automobile prices hitting the roof, this one is a damn good thread initiated by you GTO. Will inspire lot of people to hold on to their rides longer and care for them better. Lot of inspirational stories from multiple team members here. Keep it coming people.
I am sure many people will resist the urge to change their cars just for the sake of it and in the process save money being spent unnecessarily on a depreciating asset.

Great thread! Very heartening and encouraging to see these machines battering the toll of time and going strong.

Great thread ! Of course it's no surprise seeing all those Toyotas in here.

I have just 2 vehicles that have crossed the 2 lakh mark surprisingly both Mahindras.
1. Mahindra Maxx Festara (pvt registered), 287500 ish when we sold it. Was initially bought to transport us to and fro to our offices, then started hauling medicines and then went back to transporting our staff. Except the terrible rusting and wiper issues no mechanical failures.
2. Mahindra Bolero camper gold (pvt registered). sold at 2.95 ish. No mechanical issues, parts availability was a pain.

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Amazing line up of cars & their proud owners.
Kudos to you all & keep driving your loved ones.
One point if I may add:
For those who say Maruti build quality is mediocre to say the least, the inclusion of Maruti cars in this august list tells different story.

May be as someone said maintenance is the key.

MOD NOTE -
Dear BHP-ian,

Please ensure that you:

- Use CAPITAL letters where required.

- Proof-Read your posts to correct Language & Grammatical errors.

- Use the right punctuation. And put space after a punctuation, not before it.

- Use spaces properly (between sentences as well as paragraphs).

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

While I don't have any direct contribution to make to this august list of cars and their drivers, I just wanted to say that threads like these are the most inspirational ones on our beloved forum. Every time I read long term ownership reviews especially the ones which are REALLY LONG TERM, it makes me look at my car (a 2012 Honda City SMT - 65000 kms only ) in a whole new light. All the thoughts of replacing her for a younger, hotter model get pushed back ! While my initial plan was to replace her at the 7 year mark, then the 9 year mark and now the 10 year mark, this thread has made me reconsider my replacement decision. Kudos to all you Long Termers !

Here's hoping there would be more Honda's popping up here on this thread!

Reassures me all the more to retain my existing petrol cars until the time EVs are really viable in the mass market.

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Didn't see a Duster yet, so here goes my entry.

- 2012 Renault Duster RXZ Optional

- Odo was at 197,000 km when I sold the car

- Major work done : The engine was bulletproof so worked on almost everything else apart from the engine.
  • Whole Suspension Overhaul around 161,000
  • AC Compressor gave up so replaced and overhauled the whole thing
  • Alternator was replaced around 167,000
  • Many small internal bits failed over time like AC knob and some plastic buttons
  • Seat rails corroded at one point so could not move the seats and it started rocking, had to get it cleaned.
  • Got everything painted in black so give it a complete black on black look.

- How much longer do you plan to retain her? - Unfortunately I was leaving India for good and had to sell it in 2018 else it would have clocked 300,000km by now. I had invested a lot of time and money to get it sorted and it was almost perfect by the time it was sold.

A picture just a week before we parted ways.

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Hello Friends,

Here's my contribution to this amazing thread

• Year, make, model & engine
2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI - Rider (Automatic)

• Current odo reading
picked up this car with 1,00,000 on the ODO in 2015 and have added approx 1,00,000 till the lockdown hit us

Officially 1,76,xxx per the meter however it has crossed 2,00,000 since for 4-5 months there was an issue with the sensor and I could not get it replaced and the ODO was not capturing the Kilometers

• Major work done
All services post my acquisition was done at a Trusted FNG
Clutch, Timing belt & Kit, AC Compressor, Brake pads, Most of the Rubber hoses, Driver side switch panel, Few Sensors

Most important is I follow the 10,000 km Service rule, no compromise with that

• How much longer do you plan to retain her?
For as long as I can, its RC is due for renewal in Sept'21 so that will be a deciding moment per the family but I will try and convince them further

• Pictures

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Make : Peugeot
Model : 309 GLD
Engine : TUD5 1527 cc 4 Cylinder Inline producing 57HP & 95 Nm Torque
Year : 1996
Colour : Nautilus Blue
Run : 550000 Kms (Speedometer had Stopped Working After 475000 Kms)

The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car-peugeot.jpg

Ours was the 1st GLD to be delivered. We used it for more than 15 Years & had clocked close to 5.5 Lac Kms in it. It was a gem of a car with Superb Suspension & a Highly Fuel Efficient Engine. It returned around 19kmpl & did 0-60 kmph in 7.89 Sec, which if my memory serves me right was a better timing than the carburetted Esteem of those days.

Re: The 200,000 km hall of fame | Pics & experiences with your 2 lakh km car

Year, make, model & engine

Innova 2.5 GX, 2009, Diesel
Brought her home in October of 2009, sweet car, trouble free, totally and boringly reliable - won't have it any other way on this one. Has been the family car, mostly dropping kids to school and me to the office and back, through the dreaded Old Madras Road traffic, and later on thru the infamous KR Puram junction to Whitefield. Now spending most days at home through the lockdown at peaceful Kengeri. Continues to drop my college going son and usual grocery shopping and city runs. She used to do about 120km a day in her prime, now she does about 25km a day. Purrs like a well fed kitten, growls when floored (thanks to K&N Airfilter, Tune It kit and Somender Singh Grooves)

• Current odo reading - 2,26,817 KM

• Major work done
She's been through two clutch changes, a full engine overhaul mostly to keep her in tune and perform like new, and changed one shock so far.

• How much longer do you plan to retain her
The plan is to retain her for the next 4 years - my son completes his degree and then replace her with an electric. 5KW of solar panels on the rooftop make an electric car a very attractive proposition!

The pic shows her on the day she was brought home, more than 10 years ago
