I would still prefer the S-Presso over the new Alto. I just don't like the design of the new Alto. IMO, the previous Alto 800 and K10's looked a 100 times cooler than the new Alto with its weird front end. Surely the S-Presso ain't a looker, but at least seems a better product with almost similar pricing. MS isn't what it used to be. No more an affordable car brand

I regret not buying Santro AMT. It was such a value for money. Waited for celerio for long. Very disappointed with the product. Now this. ( Although in my opinion, alto k10 looks the best among maruti hatchbacks)
VXI+ AGS on-road price 7.03 lac. Ignis zeta amt 8.38 lac. Nios sportz AMT 8.97. ( Also, both ignis and nios should have decent discounts.). So ignis/nios looks a no brainer. If one is looking for a city only car, is alto k10 AGS better than ignis/nios?. The main criteria is ease of driving. Not bothered about build quality, mileage etc
I am yet to check it in person.

"INR 3,99,000 onwards" is an eyewash. The lowest variant of the Alto K10, the Std (O), does not offer AC or Power steering!!

Alto now would be over 7 lacs on road in my city, a price point swift Zxi was in, not too long ago. They way car prices are going is seriously alarming!

Looks like the design inspiration was a Datsun Go. The 1st gen and facelift Altos used to look good with the long bonnet and clean design. This looks quite horrid. Better than an Eyesore-spresso for sure though.

Maruti designs in the entry level hatches these days are so dull!

I got Ignis Delta in February 2020 for 6.5 lakh on road. Now Alto K10 top model on road will cross 6 lakh. Amazing price rise. :-)

Am I the only one not seeing a provision for a fog lamps? Is that not a basic safety requirement?

MSIL is now back to its core area F strength viz. the small hatchback segment and all earlier statements especially by Mr R. C. Bhargava about exit from this space appear to have been superseded. The exits were being talked about after the six airbags idea by Mr Gadkari. The MD and CEO Mr Hisashi Takeuchi has said yesterday while talking about the new K-10 that MSIL has 68% of the market share in this segment of the 11.5 lakh hatchbacks sold. He has also said that though SUV's are gaining popularity, demand for hatchbacks remains strong. According to him this is the 40th year of MSIL in India.



The 1.0 litre engines have been playing hide and seek with this car model. They launched a 1.0 L engine option after the turn of the millennium and withdrew it soon owing to the Wagon R launch. The Alto remained with its 796 cc engine. Then after nearly a decade the K-10 came. Again the 1 litre engine was withdrawn recently from the Alto during the launch of the S-Presso that also had this 998 cc engine.

Alto one litre fans need to buy one soon. Going by the cyclicity of withdrawals of this 998 cc engine fearing cannibalisation by other homegrown variants, soon some other launch could prompt Mr Bhargava and Mr Takeuchi to again stop the Alto 1.0 L.

I think Bajaj Qute will be a better value for money if it sells to the public. Alto costs around 6 lakhs On-road while Qute costs 3 lakhs. Even a two wheeler costs 1 - 1.5 lakh but the Qute can seat 4! Perfect for city use.

My 10 Year old Alto K10 VXI, looks, feels and I guess will drive better than the 6L + Alto K10. Expect for some internal digital screen and stuff, that I don't need in my current Alto there is nothing really worth 2L + price increase, which is % terms is around 50%.
It however just keeps the model refreshed and the product line alive. Anyway there had to a price bump, drop the AMT and provide and useable CVT, I would have exchanged my old to the new. Would be worth it. I will pass replacing apple to apples.

I guess the high prices is not a phenomenon restricted to cars. Look at 2 wheeler bike prices. A decent Bajaj Pulsar costs more than 1 Lakh Rupees on road. A relevant article in Autocar India.

Don't usually look at the 2 wheeler segment. Last time I actively followed it was in the late 2000s.

So imagine my surprise when I found out that the Activa now costs almost 1 lakhs on road!!!

Only the TVS XL100 pricing makes any sense for me now.

Sadly the future is bleak for factory fog lamps.

Ze Germans have shown the way and it will be about time before most mainstream models lose their fog lamps. Already the Hyryder/Grand Vitara has lost it. Guess the companies must be thinking, "We already gave them DRLs for bling, why do they need the fog lamps anyways" kachak. Cost cutting.

In the Alto800 and Spresso they have not given provision for fog lamps but have given a cutting for putting on an LED strip.

If it actually has hydraulic steering it becomes the most interesting car being sold in India right now. No other new car has hydraulic steering, right? It should actually be really fun to drive, what with the low weight, 60hp and ultra compact dimensions. The closest thing to a go-kart or race car (pls don't attack me for making this comparison) for street use. A humble race car, so to speak. I really want one now.
