Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

Growing up in the 90’s we had an LML Vespa bearing the registration number MH04 R 6784. I was very disappointed when we had to sell the scooter post my father’s illness in 2002. In 2005, I got a new Nokia mobile phone as a gift from my uncle along with a Hutch prepaid card. To my surprise, the ending digits of the mobile number bore the digits 6784 which was purely coincidental! I’m still using that number but miss my old Vespa!

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

While travelling from Bangalore to Kolkata in March this year, we saw a truck near Visakhapatnam. Unknowingly, we took this picture observing the geometric pattern.

Guess what, the same truck was observed 24hrs/600km later before entering Bhubaneswar. Nothing substantial, but coincidences like this brings such a childish joy within us.

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

Once I had to travel to Lady Harding Medical College, & had a Santro with last 4 digits as 5515. When I returned to parking after visiting the relative, I saw an Alto with almost same registration number except 2 different alphabetical characters (that are used to denote registration series, & are placed before the 4 digits numeric code, 5515 in my case).

In another instance, when I had sold this Santro, Imy cousin was attending an interview in Delhi. In the parking was my Santro that I had exchanged for the Aspire. I spoke to the owner who was a doctor & his daughter too was there for interview.

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

This was sometime early this year:

Our first car(Tata Indica) was um...I don't like this word. Ok, it happens to 15 year old cars in Delhi, if you know what I mean. Although we were in Mumbai, the guy at Cars24 forced us to take this step. It happened on 19th December, and then, on 1st January this year, we booked a Tata Nexon(I consider it as a reincarnation of our first car). One fine day in February, my father and I decided to go for a morning walk.

I didn't want to wake up(I'm quite lethargic). I must say, the walk was quite rewarding. During the walk, I ask my father how much it would cost to get the same number for our new car, and at the very same moment, a Swift zooms past me. I look at the registration, and the number was exactly same. Two different RTOs, from two different states, allotted the same numbers. It read MH 0x xx 2785. Our car had the reg. number KL xx Ax 2785! I let out a cry of joy, and then cried my heart out(yes, you read that right), somewhat like Lando Norris did in the Abu Dhabi GP. To top it all, while getting up from my bed, I thought as to how I managed to not have a single mood swing, I being a teenager!

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

I had an interesting coincidence with my 2010 Honda City; I was dropping my son at day care in the morning and was in a hurry to head on to office. As I came out of the day care, saw my car parked where I got off and got in the rear seat while poring over mails on my phone. I was wondering why my driver was not driving on and then noticed that the car had a different upholstery. That's when I noticed that it was same make, same colour car with a different driver starting at me from his seat!! I quickly apologised and noticed that my car was right behind it with my driver honking to catch my attention :-)

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

Of all the vehicles my family has owned in India, only 1 of them had a 4 digit registration number. And we never paid/requested for any of these numbers.

1. 1998-2006 Maruti 800 - KA 05 P (0)253
2. 2006-2018 Hyundai Getz - KA 01 MB 8069 (The odd-one out)
3. 2000-2007 Toyota Qualis - KA 05 Z (0)781
4. 2007-2018 Toyota Innova - KA 05 MF (0)524
5. 2014-2017 Bajaj Discover 100T - KA 51 EJ (0)160
6. 2018-current Maruti Ciaz - KA ** ** (0)656

Also, rare to sport a Prado or a Land Cuiser in India. What are the odds that I spotted both parking right behind each other ? (At Club Mahindra, Virajpet in Jan 2019.) Also, notice the 5555 in the Indica's registration?

I wish I had more pictures to explain to you all the ridiculousness of this phenomenon that plagues me wherever I go, be it colleges, malls, gyms, restaurants, hospitals, or even tourist spots!

What’s this “phenomenon” that I talk about, you ask? Well, the Yamaha R15 V3 had been my go to source for wet dreams for the past couple years. But sadly, because of the astronomical taxes in Bangalore, I had to let go of my “dream bike” when I bought my Gixxer back in February of this year.

Even when I’d come to terms with reality and my current situation, I’m haunted by R15 V3’s wherever I go. The motorbike never seems to deny me the (mis)fortune of being present in its vicinity, be it to witness a fly-by, or to see it overtake me (or vice versa), or to see it simply parked next to / in front of my Suzuki.

These, “Boo, yea!! You can’t have me!! (yet)” occurrences take glee in appearing in front of me tantalisingly. I don’t believe in fate, but I can almost sense something better coming for me from the pure bred, race DNA filled stables of Yamaha…soon someday…

For now, though, my queen awaits me.

I bought a RE Thunderbird in 2012, number issued by RTO was 5304. Got the Interceptor in 2019 and the number issued was 3405. The same 4 digits in a difference sequence.

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

I purchased a Skoda Fabia in 2011. My neighbour who doesn't know a lot about cars loved the car and used to appreciate the looks of the Fabia. I sold my car to Cars 24 in September 2018. Somewhere in late 2018 or early 2019 my neighbour came to me telling that he managed to find a used Fabia as a first car for his son. He asked me to come and see the vehicle as I used to drive a Fabia before. Moment of truth, It was my car. The same Fabia that I had sold. Now, I get to see it parked everyday in my society and driven around in my locality.

This actually reminds me of a weird story that happened to my friends. Let's just call them A and B.

Friend A wanted B's scooter for a day, so he took the keys but didn't ask the registration number as he knew the bike's color and model (Big mistake), went to the parking lot and he rode off with the scooter.

Long story short, he actually took someone else's scooter of the same color and model, keys somehow worked! Actual owner was searching for his scooter and created a scene before my friend returned, he was ready to lodge a police complaint, thankfully once friend A came back, they realised what had happened and decided to take their activa back and not take any action

I had a 2007 Zen Estilo as my First Car (Regn WB02Y3933). Once in a Red Signal in 2012/13 I saw an Alto (Regn WB02Y3932) just in front of mine.

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

Interesting thread! I had a solo trip to Yercaud 4 years back and while returning I was stopped by a gentleman driving a Chevy Captiva bearing the same reg digits as mine "7777". Apparently he was also into bikes & numerology as well, he had offered me to buy my bike then and there, which was politely refused. He then gave his number and asked me to give him a call whenever I decide to sell, sadly I missed his number and could not connect with him when I was parting with my bike. 7777 was special indeed!

Re: Automotive coincidences in India | Share yours here

We had a biggest (Jaw dropping) coincidence of all time:

My father had a Bajaj Chetak purchased in 1991 with Registration No. HP 22 15xx. (RTO Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh)

After around 9 years in the year 2000, I spotted a Yamaha RX 100 (in our town) with exactly the same Registration Number HP 22 15 xx as that of our scooter. While we were having our Bajaj chetak still with us, we were in deep surprise, how in the world this is possible (Two vehicles in a Town with same "exactly the same" registration number).

When I told my father about this, he did not believe me at first, so I showed him that RX100 with same registration number (which used to be there near my coaching class centre). Anyhow, we did not take any action/reporting to police etc.

My Father sold his Chetak in the year 2005 and we forgot the chapter.
