Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

My current dream car is a great sedan like 2012 facelift jetta with Maruti/Toyota ASS.
Dsg if reliable like torque converter else manual would do.
And 2ltr tdi with turbo whoosh.

A white sedan.

My previous car was a Remapped Optra magnum 2.0 with 0-100 of 8secs. It used to smoke a x1 but looked very normal.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Such an interesting thread! I myself was having this thought a few days back pf having built to order cars where we get to choose the features and the parts that go into it. Pay for what you want, leave the rest. Only if such fantasies were practically possible. For my ideal car under 20L, I would be The Thar with with an Astor interior, Compass driving manners with Toyota reliability and a well sealed roof. Add in the Sony music system from the XUV700 and I'm already going weak in my knees.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

I have a ford ecosport diesel Titanium + . I want a torque converter, ride quality of hexa (ecosport is stiffly tuned). I’m pretty happy otherwise with the handling and dynamics Then a 4 WD from thar and the interiors with soft touch materials and a pair of rear AC vents would do well. It’ll be an awesome package for me for the next 5 years

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

I am currently in the market, searching for a 7-Seater MPV. So, these are my requirements in order to make it, a dream car:-

1) Ertiga like pricing and design.
2) Interior Spacing and resale value like the Innova Crysta.
3) Reliability & comfort like Innova Crysta.
4) Marrazo like chiller AC & vents positioning.
5) Creta like 1.5 Diesel Engine & brand name.
6) Seltos like features and variant distribution.

If a car like this is made, then it would really sell like hot cakes as it has a decently powerful, fuel efficient & silent diesel engine, good AC cooling and design, great spacing and comfort, excellent reliability & resale value and starts at a price point of 10L on-road..!! Features & Variant Distribution would be like the cherry on top. Even if the car costs 20L on-road for the top model, I'll buy it without any second thought. But alas, any car maker isn't ready to do so Indians really need a proper 7-Seater MPV like this between the 10-20L price bracket which will eat onto the sales of the Innova, as well as the Ertiga. Hyundai/Kia, are you listening

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

If I was given the task of building my dream car with ₹20 lakh on-road price, this is the features it would have.
1. 7 airbags and 5 star adult+child protection.
2. Cruise control.
3. 8 inch infotainment screen (this is where I am cutting costs) + analogue speedo dial.
4. Heads up display.
5. Dual zone A/C; no need for air purifier and other such gimmicks.
6. Mechanically fully adjustable seats and headrests with inflatable-deflatable lumbar support.
7. 400 litre+ boot space.
8. 16 kmpl fuel economy with 1.5L+ diesel engine. Automatic but not AMT.
9. 0-100 in 11 seconds or less/ 20-80 in 6.5 second or less.
10.Should be reliable and offee relatively fuss-free driving experience.

If car companies can offer extra, most welcome

Am I asking for too much ? I don't think so. The new Honda Civic perhaps would've been the one but Honda is simply not willing with the kind of tax our govt. applies and our fellow Indians' new found love for bigger boxes as cars at minimum price. Badi gaadi leni hai sabko bhai. Sorry but sedans offer superior ride comfort guys. My apologies if this hurts someone's sentiments but these plethora of SUVs have already hurt mine.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

I realise that my perfect car under 20L basically has a torque converter slapped onto already existing cars.

I'll happily take the S-Cross with the 1.5 DDiS MSIL came up with in the Ciaz, mated to a 6 speed TC.

Or the Nexon 1.5D with a TC.

If Kia/Hyundai can fix the safety and hopefully consider adding AWD, then the 1.5D TC variant of Seltos/Creta.

In an alternative reality, the Kushaq/Taigun with VW's TDI mated to a 6 speed AT.

As you can see, I like Torque and Torque converters.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Hey if it has to be under 20 lakhs then I’d like the 5th Gen Elantra with performance and handling of an diesel octavia plus a sunroof and the width of a 5 series. It’s going to be a beautiful performer 😍

Interesting thread!

My dream sub-20 lakh rupee car would simply be a 2021 S-Cross with the 1.6L Multijet or 1.5L DDiS (With higher performance), AWD and steering from the Maruti Swift (design of the 3rd gen and feel & feedback of the 1st gen)

A Maruti XL6 with same specifications and wider tires will also be a wholesome package!

If it had to be a SUV, it would simply be a black Scorpio with the Hexa's suspension setup and Nexon's safety!

Amongst the discontinued ones, the Suzuki Kizashi or Skoda Laura VRS would do just fine with better parts availability(and reliability for the Skoda!)

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Here it goes:

1. 200mm GC from any of the crossovers/SUVs in the market
2. Rear-biased selectable 4x4 setup (with low-range) from Thar
3. Suspension travel and tuning quality from Duster/Hexa
4. Clean and timeless design from VW/Skoda
5. Handling setup from VW/Skoda
6. 2.0L NA Petrol from Alcazar. Boy do I like old school (but tuned spicier by VW)
7. 7DCT from Hyundai (as DQ200 will overheat and die while low-range crawling). Or heck, just shove in an 7-stepped CVT from the 5th gen City. Whichever can handle more stress.
8. Paddle Shifters from Ecosport
9. LED Low Beam projectors from 2014+ Altis
10. LED High Beam reflectors from City 5th Gen
11. 3-inch round foglamp housing because I'll get a visit from Xenon Planet
12. Sound setup from Hexa but infotainment system from Vento
13. Simple and clean looking rims (VW's 16" Portago/Anything thin and multispoked). Imagine Rotiform BUC but 16"
14. 360 camera setup from Kicks
15. Front and rear parking sensors (XUV300/Octavia?)
16. Shove everything in a Kushaq body (might need to stretch the front a bit)
17. Dechrome it completely

I mean this can be done at around 20L but the manufacturers won't give us good stuff and even if they do, the masses will go buy Marutis again.

The result is a go-everywhere, do-anything, fun-to-drive compact SUV that can do a fair bit of off-roading as well.
Fingers crossed for the upcoming SCross with Allgrip. That just might be "The Car" unless UNGT rule is repealed

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Assuming the options are limited to what could easily be possible in our car market,

my made to order car would be

FIAT Linea with
  • 2.0 MJD BS6 engine (from the Jeep),
(1.6 would have done too, but 2.0 is already there and its chassis can take it, so I picked that)
  • a spoiler
  • 17" wheels
  • all disc brakes
  • hydraulic power steering
  • black interiors

Everything is available, just need to be assembled. FCA, can you bring a sedan again?
