Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

My dream combination would include bits from the SUVs/MPVs (7 seater) in the 20 lakh rupees price bracket. The vehicles launched by manufacturers this year has led to the formation of this new segment (D segment, 7 seater, 20 lakh) and I'm absolutely liking how this has made some top notch features accessible to prospective customers looking for a vehicle at this price point. Here's how my combo would go-

1) Tata Safari 2021- Exterior design, Chassis, Captain seats, Safety features

BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR-safari-modeling1-1.jpg
Recent click on a day trip.

The edition I'm looking at is the Adventure Persona, which misses out on ventilated seats. But since we're only wishing, I'd love to see that in both the rows like in the gold edition. Since it's mainly the structural components that have made into my list, I'd love to call this my dream car's skeletal system.

2) Mahindra XUV700- 2.2L Diesel, Gizmos & Features, AWD, ADAS

XUV700 is the go to vehicle for all sane reasons given the complete package Mahindra is providing. Mahindra has gone above to provide all these features and hence it pretty much makes up the heart and other crucial parts of my dream vehicle.

3) Hyundai Alcazar- Mileage, After Sales Support

Alcazar sure is the one that ticks the fuel efficiency box among its rivals. Though insane to expect this kind of fuel efficiency in a dream car with a 2.2L engine, I love living in a fantasy world.
Thanks to these new initiatives that Hyundai has come up with (like the live service streaming, app to estimate the cost of the parts etc.) I'm drawn towards this for my vehicle's services. Not like everyone's going to sit and watch their vehicle get serviced throughout, but it's nice to have an option and for petrol heads like us, that's a big YES!

Toyota Innova Crysta- Reliability, AT box, Boot space, availability and cost of parts

During the course of ownership, I would definitely want to see my vehicle run strong throughout the years and kilometers in its odo. As long as I'm confident my vehicle can do it, no night would go sleepless.

For all this, I'm willing to pay a good 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Hey, stop looking at me like that! I'm being generous even in my dreams!

Thank you @saikarthik for starting this thread! Now as I analyze what I want from each car of this segment, it gives me a clearer understanding of my needs in vehicles and maybe will contribute to a more rational purchase in the future.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

My dream car:

1. Brand: Maruti Suzuki
Reason: service and spares support, reliability.

2. Car body and design: Volvo V40 cross country like exterior design, interiors, ground clearance and space.

3. Engine: I am totally fine with the Suzuki 1.5L petrol mild hybrid engine.

4. Material quality of interiors: At par with Hyundai Creta.

5. Features list: Equivalent of S-Cross Zeta with added auto folding ORVMs, auto dimming IRVM, a sub woofer/better speakers and a sunroof.

6. Safety: At par with S-Cross/Brezza (4 star GNCAP).

7. Ride quality: Same as S-Cross/Brezza or a Punto (not possible with higher GC).

8. Fuel efficiency: At par with S-Cross petrol (12kmpl city and 16-18kmpl highway).

All this at a Rs20 lacs ex-showroom would be my dream car.

Some may wonder why many stuff is equivalent of Maruti Suzuki/S-Cross/Brezza etc.?
My explanation is that the wishes sought by Draupadi in Mahabharata is representative of over expectations that cant be fulfilled in a single package at a reasonable cost (in automotive context).

My dream build is also somewhat like this. Facelift Linea with 1.4 T jet or 1.6 MJD (very difficult to chose between them) with better headlamps, gear box with better ratios, 6 airbags, ICE system supporting CarPlay and android auto, more modern MID and reach adjustable steering. A sunroof would be welcome, but not a deal breaker. Finally and most importantly, a 5 star crash rating.
I think it can still be done within 20 Lakhs OTR considering Linea used to sell for around 10 lakhs in its final days.

I know, the whole thing sounds like a dead and buried man rising out of his grave with superpowers

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Since the end result should be below 20L, only vehicles retailing under 20L are included in my list.

1) Ruggedness of a Mahindra Scorpio
An almost 2 decade old SUV (albeit with a platform change), it is still going strong and a cash cow for Mahindra.
Name: images 7.jpeg
Views: 294
Size: 38.6 KB

2) Space utilisation of Renault Triber
The third row of this <4m car can put 5m long cars to shame. I admire the dual glovebox too.
Name: images 8.jpeg
Views: 295
Size: 25.6 KB

3) Safety of Tata Punch
This little car surely packs a punch earning it the tag of the Safest Indian Car.
Name: images 9.jpeg
Views: 285
Size: 41.3 KB

4) Tech and Petrol powertrain from Kia Sonet.
The Sonet is well loaded with an more than adequate petrol engine. The main concern being Safety, has been neutralised.

If the list can be a flexible by around 5L rupees -

1) Looks, ride quality and third row of the Tata Safari
Macho looks, comfortable ride and one of the better third rows in the segment. Unmatched road presence too!
Name: images 11.jpeg
Views: 318
Size: 49.2 KB

2) MStallion 2.0 litre engine and the dual screen setup from XUV 700
Super refined engine with 200PS power on tap. The dual screens uplift the overall ambience and don't cost a bomb to the manufacturer either.
Name: images 12.jpeg
Views: 310
Size: 54.0 KB

3) Fuel efficiency of Maruti Suzuki Celerio
Boom. The MStallion's only disadvantage is eliminated
25 kmpl will be something to brag about in the extended family!

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

I have two favourites:

1. Tata Hexa Automatic... with a Land Rover 4X4 system... and the diesel from Mahindra XUV700... and the interior practicality of the XUV

2. Skoda Superb with the M3 powertrain

I would love to have a used Volkswagen Polo GTI with 2 more doors for added practicality. Nothing more I can ask for in an already perfect package.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

Mine would be
Maruti XL7 with Hyundai's 2 litre petrol engine with AT
Tata level build quality
Hyundai/Kia's gizmos
VW level fit and finish
I am a fairly simple man!

At 20L OTR, my practical choices would be...

1. Nexon EV with tesla's range

2.Creta with compass's build and handling

3.Tata Hexa with specs and features of XUV 700

4. Spacious and reliable people to compete with the likes Innova Diesel AT.

All cars costing 2 million INR should have at least 7 years warranty and free service for at least 3 years.

Re: BYOD | Build Your Dream Car for 20 lakhs OTR

This is a fun post, similar to how IPL franchisee have to pick the ideal team within a limited purse

A 5 door 4WD Force Gurkha with:

1) 2.7 litre AT Petrol engine (Don't want BS6 DPF) from Toyota (for that extra reliability). Hopefully the petrol engine will keep costs within 20 L

2) Crash Test Ratings from Thar/Nexon

3) Maruti's Service network at Toyota's standards

4) Fit, finish, connectivity features and reverse camera from Kia/Hyundai

While there is to be no compromise on points 1 and 2, point 4 can be compromised to keep cost under 20 lacs. As point 3 isn't directly related to cost, let it be

Basically i am describing a G wagon for Rs 20 lacs
