Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

OMG, Wifey's Scooty Pep+ found a mention on Team-BHP now

This was a 2007 Model, which we purchased in 2010 from a colleague moving abroad with odo approaching 2000.
It was exchanged in Bangalore-Jayanagar Silicon Honda for Activa in 2016 with odo around 6500.
So, this had done 6500 in close to 9 years and 4500 in 6 years with us.

Actually, even I also had used it for a couple of months for office commute at one point, which was around 6-7 kms.
The Major reason for low running was Wifey started using Alto-K10 for errands.
I saw the Honda SA using it for quite some time.

Haha, yes, in these older cars with analogue 5 digit odometers, one often gets to see the numbers starting over from the very beginning. In my car’s case, the running has actually been that low. As a matter of fact, it barely ran for 5-10 km a year between 2004-2015 and was completely abandoned after that. As far as the resale value is concerned, the car has already reached a stage where irrespective of condition and odo reading, the value remains fixated at ‘battery and tyres’

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My dad's Maruti 800 DX, bought in 03/1998, sold in 10/2015, ODO at the time of sale was just 12890 kms. That's roughly 750 kms of Average annual usage. Super low from any standard.
Reason for low running was that he used to travel by public transport as he was posted in rural areas most of his career and he had very few long road trips. However this ultra low mileage brought us a very good resale value of 40% of invoice price.
My wife's Yamaha Ray ,bought in 02/2013. ODO stands at just 13xxx kms. Annual usage of 1500 kms. Reason for low usage is because her office was hardly 2 kms from office and I only drive my car.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I came across a 2007 Toyota Corolla H5 1.8E (2008 registered, MT).
The car only did 25000km and was in immaculate condition. I tried so hard to buy it but the owner was asking 3.5L which was obviously very high so had to pass.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My Indica petrol model has clocked a "mere" 98,000 kms since Feb' 2001. That is less than 5000 kms a year. All these years it has served me well. I maintain it well.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

This thread does make for an interesting read!
I think my odometers qualify to be here. But some of the odometers on this thread deserve a separate thread

My 10 years old pre-owned i20, with just 67k on the odometer

My 6.5 years old Activa 125 having 12k on its odometer. I for sure have not used it to its full potential.

Between all my vehicles:
Low Usage:

2001 Maruti Zen - 90000 km 20 years (4500 km/year)
2015 RE Classic 500 - 15000 km 6 years (2500 km/year)
2015 Vespa 150 VXL - 6000 km 6 years (1000 km/year)

Medium Usage:

2013 Toyota Fortuner - 98000 km 8 years (12250 km/year)
2012 Honda CBR250R - 100000 km 9 years (11111 km/year)
2019 RE INT650 - 20000 km 2 years (10000 km/year)
2018 Maruti Swift - 35000 km 3 years (11666 km/year)

In terms of usage, over the last 10 years, the usage has been 80% me and 20% between dad and granddad.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I think nothing can beat my sister-in-law's I10 in this. She drove just 3200km from March 2010 to December 2020 (month of sale).

My Bullet Electra has just done 14k for the past 4 years and 3 months (Courtesy - Covid 19) and Suzuki Access has completed 5300 for the past 2 years.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

The odometer in my 10 year old Nano reads 12,341 as on yesterday. As a matter of fact I used to always feel I have not used my car much whenever I see the odometer but I am relieved now seeing the odo readings of some of our dear fellow members.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I guess I am eligible to part of this thread

2003 Esteem VXi - 65K in 18 years
2005 Honda Unicorn - 29K in 16 years
2010 Honda Civic - 42K in 11 years
2013 A-Star - 25k in 8 years.

This also made me think of the possible reasons that contribute towards the low mileage. In my case, I can cite the following reasons:

1. Low usage due to nature of work that requires less commuting
2. Total mileage getting distributed between cars
3. Zero outstation trips/long drives
4. Being out of country for a couple of years
5. Covid, of course (in the last 2 years)
6. Local usage only (in and around the locality within a radius of 2-3 kms and for school pick up/drop)

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

Perhaps not THE lowest odo readings for each vehicle based on their age, but still FWIW:
  • My 21 y/o Caliber: 68K km
  • My 6 y/o Ecosport: 29K km
  • Wife's 6 y/o Nano: 13K km
  • Dad's 5 y/o Eon: 6000 km

Admins, pls don't strip me off my membership!

The main reasons for such low mileages could be:
  • My usage of public/office transport for office commute mostly - rendering bike/cars to be strictly used for family outings only
  • If I've to go some place solo - always prefer to use bike or again public transport - my somewhat inclination for eco-friendly means of commute/less fuel consumption!

I have a friend who owns a 2014 Celerio, driven only 11k. He doesn't know how to drive, so it's basically been driven by a driver.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My dad has a 2017 Celerio AMT in Karwar, KA.
Parking in our property is a bit odd & cumbersome. Being a small town he mostly prefers two wheeler. For the initial 3 years the car barely did 5,000 kms. Now it stands around 9k

I clocked 5k faster in my 2018 Road bike than this car

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I have a Feb 2010 SX4 Zxi MT and it has done 27K on the odometer. Currently gives about 9/10 Kmpl in city with AC. It's an amazing ride and is up due for tyre changes and some suspension checks after nearly 12 years. What are the BHPians take on this sedan? Keep driving the beast or swap it for an SUV/Cross over?
