As BHPians, if there's one thing we love dearly, it is our own cars. Not only do we use them to get from point A to point B, but also sometimes to distract ourselves from our monotonous lives! I received my license recently and I simply could not resist the urge to drive a car ever since. However, with fuel prices at an all time high, my chances are quite limited.

The smallest car we have is a Maruti Alto LXI owned by my grandpa and bought in the year 2006. My dad felt that driving it first was the best way for me to develop and improve on my driving skills. When I got behind the wheel for the first time, I was shocked! It was not anything regarding the car that had shocked me, but the reading on the odometer that did.

Yes, you're not dreaming! That's approximately 6700 km in almost 15 years of ownership! I was absolutely shocked on seeing this, but at the same time, it got me wondering if mine is an exceptional case or is it pretty common out there. So I decided to start this thread on the forum to see if any odometer reading comes close or even lesser that what I have observed. We have seen people boast about their "highest Odometer readings" while I'm here boasting about the "Lowest Odometer Reading"!

So BHPians, please let me know:
What's the lowest odometer reading you have seen in a car for the number of ownership years?

I know the post asks for Car Mileage, but I hope bikes will be accepted too...

At the 5 year mark, while my bike (Kawasaki Ninja 300) had done almost 49,000 km, another ninja 300 at the service station had done only 2400 km, while it was as old as my bike, which I estimated based on its registration number being only a few thousands off mine. It had flattened tyres from years of dis-use. Poor way of treating a very capable bike.

How are the hoses, boots and seals in the car? Leaky and/or cracked or in passable state?

Usually old low mileage cars have their flexible bits cracked and worn due to age and low lubrication.

450 kms per annum is super low!

And I thought the Activa at home was the epitome of low running(11k in 10 yrs).

The beater car has joined the Activa and does similarly low numbers every year now (less than 1800kms in past 2 yrs).

Very interesting thread. Am sure most of the entries will be of families with multiple cars. We have always been a single car family so not qualified.

My father in law has Hyundai Eon bought in 2013 or so and it has done about 9XXX Kms. He rarely uses it but does maintain it.

My Scooty was bought in 2018 Nov. It's run around 3.1K so far. I know it's low but it was intended only for grocery and veggie shopping.

When my dad sold our BMW X1, it stood at 27xxx km’s after 8 years of ownership (bought in 2012). It was used as a weekend car or reserved for special events. Everyone we spoke to found it hard to believe that the Odometer reading was true and not tampered with.(car had seen some small abuse for a brief period of time)

Our scooty pep was bought used in 2009. It had around 15k on the odo when we bought it. 12 years later, the odi stands at 22xxx km.

None of the vehicles in my house have a very high odometer reading. In a span of 10 years, the Enfield has covered almost 40k kilometres, which is around 4000km every year. The car is 12 years old and has run 80k kilometres, making it run an approx 6666km a year.

Then comes the KB100 in my garage. For a period of 30 years, the bike has run 50k kilometres, a mere 1600km per year running.

I just sold my Activa 125 after 11 months, odometer reading 475 kilometres.

2010 Civic V AT, 11 years, odometer reading 46xxx kilometres.

The number of kilometers on my Safari 2021's odo is quite a worrisome thing given the fact that it is a diesel vehicle. It's been almost 8 months now but the odo stands at 2646kms only.



While other owners term 5k-10k kms usage as average, my vehicle may not even touch 4k kms at the end of one year's ownership. Celerio's odo on the other hand currently stands at 30.7k kms at the end of 7 years now which is fine considering it is only a beater car.



These figures seem considerably low when compared to the odo readings of the vehicles owned in the extended family. A Nissan Micra and a Vento TDI are running strong at 1.7 lakh and 1.56 lakh kms respectively after 10 years of usage.

2012 - Ertiga ZDI - 44,000 KM ( 2012-2015- 30,000 KM | 2016 to 2020(Oct) - 11,000 Km | 2020(Nov) to till date - 3000 KM out of which 2200 KM solo trip from Bangalore to Patna)
2020(March) - Interceptor - 1350 KM
2014 - Vespa - 16,000 KM

For comparison, we need an index. Let me propose OMI - Odo Meter Index .

OMI = [Distance in Km] / [(Age in years) * 100]
(divide by 100 to get easy number).

So OMI would be 6700/(15*100) = 4.5

Our EcoSport had done only 17,000 kms in 7 years, we sold it in Mid-August! The least a car has ever run by us!
