Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

Well, My family's 2006 Santro Xing eRLX has covered only 1L kms in 15 years of ownership. That accounts to 6666.66 kms of annual running. Similarly my family's 2009 Activa 100cc is also an epitome of low running. It has covered only 35,000 kms in 12 years. This accounts to an average running of 2916.66 kms per annum. Similarly my family's 2016 Creta 1.6 L Diesel has covered only 45,000 kms in 5.5 years of ownership accounting to approx 8200kms of running annually which is quite low for a Diesel Engine.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I always had very low Odometer readings on all of my vehicles I've owned and sold as i like to own cars for different use and occasions and hence don't have a specific daily drive vehicle.

Some of the cars which i sold in past which had very low Odo readings were:

BMW 530d m-sport (2015-2021): 18xxx
Skoda Octavia vRS (2005-2015): 31xxx
Chevrolet Cruze (2010-2018): 38xxx
Hyundai Grand i10 (2015-2018): 7xxx
Hyundai i10 (2011-2015): 12xxx

The current cars i own are no different and have pretty low running in comparison to their age of ownership.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

2009 - Maruti Ritz - 29,500 KM
2018 - Skoda VRS - 18,700 KM
2007 = Ninja 650 - 11,000KM

My Ritz is a farm Car in Nagpur, so only used when I travel there, the VRS is just being used on weekends.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My Hyundai Santro Xing completed 17 Years. The Odo stands at 89000kms. That makes it an average of 5200 kms per year. But my other cars have crossed 10000kms per year usage.

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

Embarrassingly, my Ciaz makes to this list. It's done a mere 32 K in 6 years and 2 months of ownership. It's all more so because it's a diesel and well, it's my primary car.

Here is how it goes. Until 2017, my car is driven only on weekends. I go to the office late. My office has a very limited number of parking slots in the CyberCity. Slots get filled by 9. I reach the office by 11. So, I always take the bike. One day my neighbour who bought the Ciaz petrol with me (same day booking) causally inquires, "sir, why diesel if you keep it parked all the time". I ask him what's his running. He says 9 K. I tell him that mine has already done 12 K.

In mid-2017, I come to Pune and don't ever drive my car, except for outstation/weekending. I love the NDA Pashan road and I always, always take the Access. Net result: My car that had done 18 K in 1.5 years in NCR does 4 K in the next two years in Pune.

Then, I drive it to Bangalore in May 2019. I take it everywhere but my office. Reason: Lunar surfaces that are oddly referred as roads by folks around Carmelaram and APR. My car can't take those. Even my Gixxer gives up and shockers start leaking after a 10-month beating.

Since Mar'20, it's all WFH. Given an unsupporting spouse (since she started working), 10 K is all I could do in the age of lockdowns.

p.s. - Incidentally, my bike has also done only 12K in 7 years. You see, I care about carbon footprints and have been mostly WFH since 2014 with occasional commute diarrhea of 3-4 weeks every six months.

Very un-T-BHP-ian I know.

Keep it. The SX4 is already a crossover, albeit one with a boot.

My suggestion would be to keep it, unless you have a compelling reason to sell it. I have a 2010 SX4 ZXi MT too, but with 127,000km on the odo now! I still use that car and I plan to keep it. I have another car as my primary car, but I still kept the SX4 because it is a very useful and practical car.

The resale value of SX4 is low. Therefore, even if you sell it, you will not get much and there is no way you can get another car like SX4 in that money. In other words, the material value of SX4 is way more than the market value. And that is why I would say keep this car for its utility and practicality, even if you get another car as your primary car (unless of course there are other compelling reasons for not keeping it).

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My family’s car usage is very minimal. Having multiple cars has made things worse in putting them to use.

BMW X3 30d (2016-present) - 10k
Tucson GLS AT (D) (2017-present) - 13k (school and grocery runs)
Jazz V CVT (2016-present) - 5k (dad’s car)

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

I may be one of the toppers here, for single car families. I bought Swift VXi in 2012, still driving it. The odometer has barely crossed 16k for 9 years of usage.

I learnt driving late and hate driving in traffic. We started going out on long trips only recently. But I got it serviced regularly and never faced any issues with my Swift. Just one time where battery was weak and died when I had not used it for months. The car is on its second battery and going strong.

Dr AD, honored to get your views. I completely agree and echo 100% with your views. I am in love with this beauty though people would call it a beast. A 1600cc engine with 104 bhp is an amazing combination for a city ride at that space point! I have a 50% NCB which I am wondering if I should claim for a complete body detailing as I intend to use it for another 3 years? Your thoughts sir?

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

My Wagon R was driven only for 90000 km in 15 years and I used to feel guilty about how little I used it.

This thread makes me feel much better about it

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

2010 Maruti Estilo - Did 39000kms while it was sold in 2019.

2019 Honda Jazz CVT- 12300kms in 2.5 years. First 10k was completed in less than a year (April 2019-March 2020), post which covid came in along with WFH and the car became a garage queen. Only 2300kms in last 1 year 9 months

Re: Lowest reading on Odometer for number of ownership years?

Our running was very low as a vehicle was provided by my father's office. Hopefully things might change now after his retirement.
8 year old access 125 - 13000kms.
1 year old baleno - 2000kms.
