Nexon D - Sep 2017
100% YES. The car is a gem. Low maintenance and good mileage, coupled with zero breakdowns make it a great car.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2022: Slavia — Ofcourse yes! It’s an amazing car. Love the convenience of an automatic.

However, I didn’t really need a sedan though. If only the same engine and gearbox combo from VW/Škoda/Tata in a fully loaded hatch, even if it costed 15L on road I would have bought it. I seriously considered i20 N line, it somehow didn’t wow me. Also wish Nexon had a well tuned TC/DSG!

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Just like how the OP mentioned, models and variants keep coming on a monthly basis and if I had the oppurtunity to buy a new car, I would definitely upgrade. My current favorite is the VW Virtus.

Not that I am un-happy with my current car, but a change is always welcome especially if it is an upgrade.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2019 Ciaz Alpha: No, not this version. Might have bought a lower version instead. Blowing up low (55) profile tyres twice is not my idea of fun. Otherwise a very satisfying car for my purposes.

2012 Thar CRDe: NO. Extremely poor ride quality, especially in the rear. The family would disown me if I get another! Glad I was forced to sell it due to NGT rules in the Delhi-NCR region.

2009 Scorpio VLX 4wd: YES. 3.5 years after selling it due to the draconian NGT rules, I still miss the car. If there was a complete car for me, given the amount of driving I used to do, this was it. A diesel SUV does not make sense to own in Delhi for me any more, given my reduced travels and the 10-year limit of ownership.

2006 Swift ZXi: YES. Once again, a complete car for its purposes. Many cars of the current generation don't provide all that the old Swift did. Sadly, sold it once again due to the NGT rules. The new Swift doesn't hold a candle to the old one.

2004 Accent Viva CRDi: Yes and no. Had loads of fun with it, but I would consider it too low and cramped today. Had sold it due to a back pain and my inability to get in & out of the car at that time.

2001 Indica DLS: ABSOLUTELY NO. That was the most horrible car I have ever owned.

1998 Zen, 1996 M-800, 1984 M-800 SS-80: NO to all of them. Those were for the times when there weren't too many big cars available in India, and affordability was an issue for the few that were. Although they were fun to drive and cheap to maintain, the overall joy of ownership wasn't there.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Let's see.

2000 Maruti Esteem.
Best option we had in sedans at that time. So, Yes.

2005 Tata Indigo Diesel
Best option we had in buying a diesel sedan with features we needed. So, Yes.

2010 Tata Manza Diesel
Needed a diesel with large boot. Nothing else could beat this. So, Yes.

2014 Honda City Diesel
Again Diesel with large boot and this was a perfect fit. I still miss this car. The FE and comfort levels along with space was mind blowing. Absolutely great purchase. So, Yes

2018 Tiago Diesel (still with us)
Needed a hatchback for city purposes and my father's ease of driving. Again an excellent purchase in hindsight. So, Yes.

Sep 2021 Kia Sonet Diesel Automatic
As much as we loved our City i needed an Automatic cos of my drive of 70+ km in NCR. This had the best engine and gearbox combo along with not too big in size as we have parking issues near my workplace. It's been around 9 months and we haven't faced any issues. The ease of Automatic and decent FE to match is absolute bliss. So, Yes.

So, we haven't rued any car making decision so far. Primarily cos I have been a car fanatic all my life and with the membership of Team bhp when it started my knowledge increased a lot. I am the sole decision maker in our house for all Car or Electronics purchases. Till now it has worked.

My next purchase will be a EV for sure. As we live in an independent house with parking spaces and place for charging it won't be a hassle. Still sometime to go as Tiago is just at 58000km and won't be changed for another 3.5 years atleast. And Sonet will be with us till 2028. Only if NCR didn't had the stupid diesel 10 year old rule Sonet could have stayed longer. On the bright side by the time we get an EV the infrastructure and EV options will be excellent.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2017 Hyundai Verna Petrol SX(O) AT
In retrospect, I think I was too conservative with my car purchase. I rarely drive and mostly use my scooter in Pune so I decided to buy a relatively utilitarian car despite having the budget for something better. While the car has been reliable and has a lot of features (ventilated seats, apple car play, sunroof), I've never really liked its handling, the conservative nature of its AT and overall power delivery.

The Verna has been very reliable and quite reasonable to maintain but it doesn't tug at the heart strings when I drive it. I should have got the Octavia TSI or a pre-owned Jetta instead. I think I would trade reliability and cost of maintenance for something that's more exciting to drive on my next upgrade. And then probably regret that decision when the DSG breaks down

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

I will never forget the day 13th May 2010. Those days buying car was much easier. There was enough stock available with major dealers that too most of the colours.

On 13th (Thursday) evening after office hours, I reached Metro Chevrolet Vasant Kunj around 6:00 pm. Paid the booking amount for White Beat LT. Sales Advisor along with driver took me to the stockyard around 2 kms away from the showroom. There was plenty of Beats, Sparks, UVA's, etc parked.

I opened and checked a white Beat LT (the one shown in the above gif). Then I asked SA to show the white one behind it. Instant love . We three drove back to showroom in that brand new Beat LT closed to 7:00 pm.

Took delivery on 16th Sunday (Akshaya Tritiya).

12 years have passed by. She had traveled to many beautiful places and toughest terrains in India.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2009 Maruti SX4: No, Because it is discontinued and present replacement Maruti Ciaz is somehow not to my liking.

2017 Jeep Compass Diesel: Yes and no, in fact I thought about updating to Model S or Trailhawk but the ownership reports from many regarding rattles, hit and miss after sales etc. are so discouraging, especially when my present experience with compass is flawless. I am afraid I might end up with a lemon from FCA and spoil all my good experiences with this one too.

2019 Renault kwid AMT: No, the size of the car is perfect for in city use, cramped roads and traffic. The car has performed better then our expectations till now but I believe by the time we like to change this car electric car will be a more commendable option.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2017 Renault Duster RXS MT -

Yes, but only if they re-launch with a torque converter AT. I am willing to make any concessions in terms of features for the sake of the magic carpet ride.

2016 POLO GT TSI

Yes, in fact, I am not able to find a replacement for it, so I have decided to keep this forever. Even the new generation of VW GT 1.5 products didn't feel that exciting or engaging to drive. This is probably because mine is Pete's tuned with theoretically 138 PS on tap. I hope POLO is relaunched in India soon, or they should have continued selling this one with updated interiors. But the lovely 1.2 TSI has no replacement.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Chevy Beat (P) - Definitely yes. Very good for both city and highways.

City:
Small enough to handle easily.
Provides enough torque to eliminate the need for frequent gear changes. Handles bad and bumpy roads well.

Highway:
Excellent suspension ensures that no fatigue is felt even after driving for 8 hours in a day.
The car feels stable and has no vibrations even at high speeds.

And returns an FE of 14-15 in city and 20-21 on highways.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

This is a great thread! Well done.

2012 Audi Q5 - This is the first car in our family which has stayed with us for 10 years. Else I usually sell my cars in 5 years time. This car has had its niggles and issues but its never let me down. It drives like a charm and it ticks every box. It is nearing its age so I might have to sell it, else I would’ve kept it for more years.

2019 Innova Crysta 2.8Z - A big YES. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Innova’s and this Crysta which I got belongs in my heart. I am daily driving mine and even though the mileage is horrendous and the body roll is too much, I love it. Putting 70KM daily on it and currently on 40k KM. Never felt tired after a full day of driving or never felt lack of power or any issues whatsoever.

2019 Verna SX(O) AT - YES. Though I would opt for the petrol rather than diesel considering how the car clatters in its glory. Everything other than, this is the perfect car and it feels planted on high speeds and drives like a pure charm.

2018 Fortuner 4x4 AT - No. A big NO. My dad has this habit of seeing the car and purchasing it without doing extensive research or comparing with the market. We had 2 fortuners before so it made sense to get the new gen as there is a lot of love for Toyota in my family. When we got the car, we hated it. We still hate it till this day and it’s driven occasionally. Planning to sell it and get a C class or a pre owned 530d.

2020 Seltos GTX+ AT - NO. I wasted money here because I got blinded by the features which were being offered here. The car drives fine. I don’t like the build quality and also the moronic air purifier. This is a beater car and its used mainly by the family to run errands. If I could, I would love to replace it with a Harrier. Better drive, better engine, better quality and a better package overall.

2020 Sonet GTX+ AT - NO. This car was bought because the house needed a small car after my i20 got stolen. Sonet was just launched and I blindly booked it without even seeing it. Regret it even today. I would have definitely picked a hatchback considerably the Polo or probably the Rapid.

2015 Creta SX+ - YES. This is my favourite beater car. I am not planning to sell it. I will probably not sell it for another 5 years. I used it in Delhi for a few years and put 70K kms on the odo. Then sent it to my office in Bangalore and now they’re using it for errands and putting kms on it. The car drives perfectly and I cannot stop changing its wheels every 6 months. The modifications just don’t stop.

I would probably add the 530d to this garage to make it complete. I have a love relationship with my cars and I hope it stays like that.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Brezza Diesel: Absolutely yes. The engine is super frugal and maintenance free. Highway drives are a breeze for our requirement. Some new age features are missing, like 6 airbags, rear disc brakes, however I would still have replaced if still available in the Diesel variant.

Tiago P: Eyes closed yes. For the price and the features, would surely buy the Tiago over the Celerio, Nios

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2016 Maruti S-Cross 1.6 diesel: Yes, yes, and if you still haven't got it - YES! This is the perfect car for the needs of a small family in a town (can't call Bangalore a metro after seeing its infrastructure) that has bad roads which gives peace of mind for long highway runs.

2010 Ford Figo petrol: No, i wouldn't. While ride, handling, steering and gear shift were great, the engine was too anemic. Best compromise at that point in time, I would not want to make a similar compromise today.

1996 Maruti Zen: No. At that time it was probably the best hatchback one could buy, but objectively, it just isn't that good. Does not quite have the classic appeal either.

1991 Volkswagen Golf GTi: YES! I so wish I could afford one today, with classic car prices where they are, I might just have to choose between my house and this car.

2006 Mazda 6 : Absolutely, especially after driving some brand-new company cars like Elantra and Corolla I realize just how good a car with nearly 4lac KM beats them in terms of refinement, build quality and driving thrills.

2015 Audi A6: nope. Will never buy a German ICE car in my life

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

It's a no-brainer !! Don't think there's anything that comes closer to this under 30-40L !

Features includes cruise control, ACC, puddle lamps and electronic folding mirrors.

Can go like a stink and do 1.5K speeds without any strain, all day

Gives anything from 18 kmpl in city to 25 kmpl on highways

Can do a 900 kms drive a day without much of a fatigue

Service cost which makes Maruti run for cover
