re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

This looks very close to Venue in terms of size. Going with the latest trends in prices I think it will be launched with starting price starting from 6L to 10.5L cutting it close to Venue for some variants.

I do think that Hyundai should offer a proper AT with this one, unlike Aura/Grand i10.

Hyundai delivers a proper SUV look rather than a hatchback look.
It looks like a decent microSUV design, IMHO.

After a long time, Hyundai delivered a decent-looking SUV. Looks like Hyundai is more concentrate on SUV Market rather than Hatchback.

1. Front design: XUV-300 vibe,

3. The biggest wheel arch cladding looks more like an SUV than a hatchback: Venue and Creta had decent-looking wheel arch cladding.

Maruti Fronx is a proper sub4 meter cross suv

How can Exter compete with it being a micro SUV just purely in terms of dimensions?

re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

Kia Carens and Hyundai Venue got married and here is the outcome.
That horizontal line on the hood is from the Carens.
The rear quarter has some old Brezza vibes and rear appears to be like Venue with black cladding from Tiago NRG.

This looks like a mini-Carens more than anything else.

By god we have so many segments and sub-segments of SUVs now from 4L all the way upto 25L.

Sub-micro SUVs? - Lord S-Presso
Micro-SUVs : Punch, Exter
Sub-sub-compact SUV? - Fronx, Magnite, Kiger
Sub-compact: Nexon,Venue,Brezza,XUV3OO etc
Actual SUV(4X4)?: Jimny, Thar, Gurkha
Compact SUV: Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, Hyryder etc
Normal-SUV? : Harrier, XUV7OO, Safari, Scorpio-N

You miss two more segment
Crossover SUV - Meridian, Tigaun, Kodiaq, Tucson
Full size SUV - Fortuner, Gloster, Mux, Alturas G4 (if it exists now)

Now the range is from 4 to 50 lakhs. If you include luxury SUVs, then range goes up significantly.

re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

Looks great. After the pricing disappointment with the new Brezza and Fronx, I hope I can upgrade to this from my current S-Presso. The automatic variants are bound to have AMT only. Hoping for CVT, but that would dull the performance of the 1.2L engine further like the last-gen i20. I don't think they will plonk the DCT here. Maybe for the best given the reliability issues with DCT in Indian conditions.

If priced well, this can be a very successful product. The Ignis is too quirky, and the Punch is put down by the famed TATA reliability. Also, the AMT avatar of punch is very slow even in comparison with S-Presso. If the little Hyundai can manage a 4-star GNCAP rating, that would be swell.

PS: Rear wiper seems to be missing. Hopefully, it's there in the production car.

I feel like this is how it should be categorized.

Subcompact crossover: Exter, Punch, Magnite, Kiger, Fronx, C3
Compact crossover: Venue, Nexon, XUV300, Brezza, C3 Aircross
Midsize crossover: Seltos, Creta, Alcazar, Kushaq, Taigun, Grand Vitara, Hyryder
Fullsize crossover: Harrier, Safari, XUV700, Compass, Meridian, Tuscon, Hycross
Compact/mid/fullsize SUV: Jimny, Thar, Scorpio, Fortuner, Gloster

I'm probably missing a few, too many crossovers/SUVs to remember

God, that looks horrible.

Also, I am quite annoyed that Hyundai is launching a smaller SUV than the Creta and not calling it the Excreta.

re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

I am really amused and confused as to how can people like this design and call it decent.

But then I own an Ignis and most don't like the rear of it.

Beauty indeed lies in the eyes of the beholder, but here the cuts on front bumper and that awkward rear bumper looks hastily made.

This is the full list as per my latest classification:

Micro crossover: (Lord)S-Presso
Subcompact crossover: Exter, Punch, Fronx, C3, Ignis
Compact crossover: Venue, Nexon, XUV300, Brezza, C3 Aircross, Sonet, Kiger, Magnite

Fullsize crossover: Harrier, Safari, XUV700, Compass, Meridian, Tuscon, Hycross
Compact/mid/fullsize SUV: Jimny, Thar, Scorpio, Fortuner, Gloster

re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

From the rear it looks very similar to the Yeti. From the front it's not as ghastly as recent Hyundai designs but that isn't saying much. Nowhere near as good looking as the Punch though for sure.

Making things more complicated, Jimny can be actually a different segment of its own as it belong to the Kei-segment of Japan, so probably Mini-SUV

Also Kiger/Magnite is in same segment as of Venue, Nexon etc.. as it shares similar size. (only its cheaper than and less premium than others)

re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

Not a good looker. Reminds of M&M's failed KUV100. They should have made it boxy like Punch but they made it too curvy. Also it looks like a mishmash of different design cues. The only car in Hyundai's line-up I like is Tucson. Really a looker. No other car makes me wanna take a second look. Sorry.
