Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

My ex-car 2018 Verna 1.6 CRDi SX+ AT- No rear disc brake and same disc dimension as the less powerful and lighter petrol model at the front + No one touch up/down power windows all round + Lousy engine NVH tuning in the AT vis-a-vis the manual version+ fixed head restraints at the back and no 3 point seatbelt for the 3rd passenger + 4 lug wheels

My current car 2022 Slavia 1.5 DSG - No rear discs + Poor fit and finish inside(many rough edges if you know where to look, and cannot unsee it once you do)+ Leatherette upholstery cannot hold a candle to the City's upholstery + No one touch up/down power windows all round (City has this)+ Cheap OE tyres

My Dad's 2022 5th gen City ZX CVT - Light build + Poor NVH + Despite having better overall fit and finish compared to my Slavia on the inside, the dashtop plastic itself is cheap and very flimsy + Puny front brake discs compared to my Slavia + Partially metal and mostly plastic wheel well in the front :O + Terrible infotainment + 4 lug wheels

My wife's 2011 Fabia 1.2 TDi - Absolutely nothing! punches well above its weight

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Ford Figo Titanium 2017-

1. No reverse parking sensors

The Figo twins were barely there in terms of features when they were launched in 2015. The Swift got a facelift in 2014 and the Grand i10 got a facelift in late 2016 and both these cars were much better(especially the Grand i10) than the Figo. Yes, Ford did offer 6 airbags but people hardly care about it, especially when it came at the cost of missing features like rear sensors, camera etc.

2. Non adjustable rear headrests-

Hardly usable for anyone above 5'6.

3. Creeky plastic quality-

The plastic quality of this car is only slightly better than the 2nd gen Swift.

4. Lack of leather wrapped steering-

Come on Ford, not even on the top end variant?

VW Jetta Comfortline 2014-

2 speakers and 2 twitters only at the front-

I am glad that my car got bluetooth unlike the Comfortlines prior to mid 2014. But did VW really had to take away the rear speakers and twitters? Why not increase the price by 10k? Jetta was a D segment car after all.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS

Hyundai didn't bother to install a less noisy small horn / speaker for the car lock / unlock sound. Instead it uses the main horn. In mornings when I have to drop my kid to school, I have to unlock using keys as the sound is too loud.

Also, I am not sure if it has any effect but have 2 rear parking sensors and not 4.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Absence of Headrests and adjustable headrests

Current Gen WagonR has these type of headrests as opposed to adjustable ones which were present in previous gen.

Brezza Lxi comes with a safety hazard like this, this wasn't the case in Brezza LDI

Absence of internally adjustable ORVMs in the base models

I wonder why in this day & age manufacturer are going ahead with these cheap tactics by doing cost cutting like this. Even our 20 year old Indica had internally adjustable ORVMs.

Kia Carens:
It is loaded with features compared to many bigger vehicles in its price range. But it still lacks following things -
1. Request sensor on passenger side door.
2. Wireless Apple car play/Android auto in top variant.
3. 360 degree camera.
These may not be cost cutting but I do miss them.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Skoda Kushaq
This is the 2022 model with Digital Cockpit, and so it misses out on:
- 10.1 inch touchscreen
- Dummy button on steering which I assume is for ADAS in international markets. Atleast they should allow us to remap the button
- Subwoofer. Was available in the 2021 models
- Full size spare wheel
- Panels gaps in some places are horrendous, especially between the right front and rear doors.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Honda City 5G
* Everything Honda did in Mid 2022 revision to remove features in the City 5g
- Removing full size steel wheels and providing puny steel spare wheel
- Removing the variant badging - not a must have - but I am unable to comprehend the cost savings or the reasoning behind it
- El Cheapo Bridgestone ecopia tyres from factory
- the age old infotainment system
- Fixed Head rest in the rear seat

Some of them could be cosmetic but they add value to the ownership

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

2017 Honda Jazz CVT.

My list is compared to the Jazz models being sold abroad at that time.

No VSA(Vehicle Stability Assist), HSA(Hill start assist).
Just 2 airbags even in the topmost VX variant.
No height adjustable front seatbelts.
No telescopic steering adjustment.
No rear seat headrests(looks like the rear bench was flicked from the Brio specifically for India).
No keyless entry and push button engine start-stop.
No factory fitted driver armrest.
No door lock switch on the driver doorpad(provided with a flush fitting dummy filler cap though)
No auto door lock crossing 15 kmph.

Some of the features were added later in the 2018 facelift. But that's some awful cost cutting by Honda for the Indian market. All the missing features listed above were available on the ASEAN Jazz at that time with the 1.5L engine.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Hyundai Creta SXO 1.5 CRDI AT: You would expect that a car maker with "features" as its USP doesnt skimp on costs, but those who are unaware would be surprised:
1) No keyless entry on the LHS.
2) No auto wipers for top end model.
3) Cheap quality wipers.
4) Trio-beam candle lights. At least the fog lamps are halogen.
5) Unlit power window switches.

Tata Tiago XZ Plus: This is a good VFM car, with all essential things, but surprisingly omits the reverse parking sensor with audible alarms, instead only offering a camera in the highest trim. The other irritant is the lack of remote rear hatch opening in a convenient position. I often find myself having to open the driver side door to reach down to the puny lever. In this respect, the most elegant solution I found among my earlier cars was in the Linea , with a dedicated boot release button.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

Worried about cost cutting for cars under 50 lakhs mostly.Though not specific to any manufacturer but general perspective of car industry at large.
1.Non extendable under thigh support front seats.
2.Missing adjustable back rest - Rear seat
3.Missing adjustable damper setting -- makes huge difference in ride comfort
4.Air suspension for cars under 50 lakhs can be huge usp.
5.Ottomon as a feature for cars under 50 lakhs -- only 2 cars under 50 lakhs has this feature for rear seats -- innova hycross and carnival.
6. Extended wheel base ( more space for rear passengers).
7.6 airbags in lower variant of cars
8. Rear seat and front seat width less than 550mm(huge difference in sitting comfort).
9.Arm rest for front seats.

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

My 2022 Honda City VX CVT
1. Sheet metal quality. It's not same as earlier Honda's
2. Lack of full size spare wheel.
3. Cheap Bridgestone ecopia tyres
4. No wireless Android auto/ apple car play
5. Dynamic reverse parking guidelines would have been good
6. No in built maps in infotainment system. Belive earlier gen had it

Although many complain about the fixed headrest at the rear seat, somehow for me and our family it's not a concern

f. Lack of rear washer and wiper
g. Lack of removable and refixable mid section panel in the front cabin roof.
h. Lack of seat height adjustment capability in the front passenger seat.
i. No headlamp washers
j. Lack of factory fit rear reverse camera and front parking sensors.

2. Toyota Glanza V AT June 2019 Manufactured model.
a. Lack of Cruise Control
b. Lack of seat height adjustment capability in the front passenger seat.
c. No headlamp washers
d. No front parking sensors.

Hey GTO-san, I'm not sure if you've tried it, but there's that Bluetooth FM radio transmitter thingy that can be used in cars missing bluetooth audio. I've been using it in my 2014 Swift VXi and it works like a charm. Attaching the link below:-

Re: What cost-cutting bothers you in your current car?

2016 Hyundai i20.

Car was very well loaded for a 10L hatchback but some missing features are glaring and will make you scratch your head:

1. Reversing lamp only on 1 side. How much could the bean counters at Hyundai really have saved by skipping one bulb? This is a car with reverse sensors and parking camera with adaptive guidelines from the factory btw. One side of the camera display remains black at night if there are no street lamps.

2. No alarm. That’s right, you get keyless entry and go but no actual security system. Anyone can smash your window open and open the doors or steal your car entirely and it won’t even make a beep.

3. No seperate beep for unlock/lock. The car will beep loudly at you if you walk away with the engine running so the hardware is clearly present but lock/unlocking from the remote just sounds the horn instead. Possibly a way to make it fool bystanders into thinking it has an alarm system.

Also, the international version comes with a beautiful panaormic sunroof that I really wish we got as an option at least.
