Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

Extremely limited options in petrol. We Delhi NCR folks look set to get the short end of the stick. I am eagerly hoping that the 4x4 variants come with the petrol engine option. It’s a big miss that Xuv700 and Scorpio N petrol are not available with 4x4. Thar 5 door should get that.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

I’m hooked to this thread and eagerly waiting for the GOAT TeamBHP review. I really hope that Mahindra has sorted out the ride quality issue of the Thar 3 Door in this Roxx, hope it rocks in ride department. One thing I don’t understand is, why not give the details in one go, why are you putting out information bit by bit like Skoda VW? It gets irritating at some point, just give out all the details at one go, it’s not like that you guys are still not decided on the pricing!

AX5L RWD AT: ₹18.99L
AX7L RWD: ₹18.99L

Prices of other variants will be revealed soon. Can anyone elaborate how the pricing of MX5 and AX7L is same in Diesel RWD avatar, with the latter having more features than the former?
I think you are confusing the AX3L for the AX7L, as quoted by you above, the price of MX5 & AX7L is not the same. If you wanted to ask about MX5 vs AX3L, then MX5 has alloys, single pane sunroof whereas AX3L gets steel wheels but has ADAS.

Going by the "leaked" brochure, there is sadly no 4x4 in Petrol.
I remember one of BHPian Anshuman's YouTube videos mentioning that Mahindra will never offer more than 150HP in Petrol + 4*4/ AWD as there are some heating issues which the 3 Door Thar P 4*4 has - I suppose that has been proven again.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

The brochure details the variants:
  • Petrol MT RWD - MX1 (12.99) and MX5
  • Petrol AT RWD - MX3 (14.99), MX5, AX7L
  • Diesel MT RWD - MX1 (13.99), MX3 (15.99), MX5 (16.99), AX3L (16.99), AX7L (18.99)
  • Diesel MT AWD - MX5, AX7L
  • Diesel AT RWD - MX3, MX5, AX5L (18.99), AX7L
  • Diesel AT AWD - AX5L, AX7L

Few observations:
  • So if you are a petrol buyer, your choices are very limited. You cannot have an AWD, and you cannot get the AX3L and AX5l trims. You can either go for lower end variants such as the MX ones or you have to go all the way to an AX7L, which is only available as an automatic. If you want a petrol manual and higher end features, you are out of luck, the highest variant you can buy is MX5. Strategy seems to to be to target lower end of the petrol segment such as the Creta and Seltos Non-turbo models in the similar price range.
  • If you want the 4x4 features, you have only four choices - the MX5 manual, AX5L Auto or the AX7L in either manual or Auto. The strategy seems to be upsell the AWD capability to those off-roaders who are seriously looking for it, or those who can easily afford it and would like to show off the 4X4 badge on the side of the car.
  • The mainstream buyer they are targeting seems to the the Diesel Manual buyers, with so many value variants on offer. They are really gunning after Creta/Seltos Diesel mid-to-top variants (S/SX, HTX/HTX+/GTX) buyers here. I am a bit surprised by the fact that the automatic is not available in the AX3L diesel, it would have made a very good package with all major features one would desire.
  • I think the range will likely top out at 22 lakhs, adding the premium of roughly one lakh to the AX5L Diesel AT to step up to AX7L and another 2 lakhs for the stepping up to the 4WD premium.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

One peculiar thing that I am noticing in every post everywhere, even in the brochure, is that Mahindra only mentions FULLY AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL, and not a single mention of whether it is DUAL ZONE, TRIPLE ZONE, SINGLE ZONE, etc.

In most common usage, FULLY AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL translates to a SINGLE ZONE unit. But until recently, Mahindra only had a DUAL ZONE CLIMATE CONTROL Unit from Ssangyong. Has it finally occured to Mahindra that need a single zone climate control unit for the lower variants? and they can keep the dual zone unit for the higher variants?

If they can spend this much on new platforms etc, they can spend some resources to create a single zone FATC, that tech can trickle down to other models in their lineup as well.

The pictures used in the brochure indicate that this car is meant for cities. But why? Does Mahindra have no hope for their customer to go off-roading? Scorpio N's website welcomes you with a beautiful picture of it crossing a river—such a cool pic! If the Scorpio N itself is advertised as a proper off-roader, then why not this?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

Full marks to Mahindra design team. I was really sceptical about the final design but I must admit that I’m sold. I feel this is going to be a game changer vehicle for Mahindra.

One more time, big thanks to Late Behram Dhabar who envisioned the OG Thar.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

I have a Jimny and I love this new Thar! It seems to have the suspension and just the right length for a go-anywhere-do-anything vehicle. Two of us recently had a Thar for a holiday rental around Panjim. It was a charismatic and enjoyable beast of a vehicle, but the suspension, the width, the long hood, and the hints of desi jugaad in the interior made for too many negatives in our book. So much so that we had a Baleno for the remainder of our trip and did some long drives in it instead. This one will hopefully address several of those complaints, although it will require skill and patience to park and manuevre in crowded markets!

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the 5-door Thar

Good product, good (introductory) pricing. The design quirks are fairly palatable, or modifiable. There's a reason why they launched it in 'mods own country' over anything else, sends out a message.

Only nitpicking would be the white interiors in an offroad friendly (rather offroad-first) vehicle. They could have used tan interiors from ScorpioN.

Mahindra must have done their research on possible demographic, and it will sell like hot cakes, that's a given. The name ROXX is still the most indigestible thing out of the entire car, and so is Mahindra's marketing approach to the demographics via it. The ad is cringe, the name is cringe, a lot of buyers perhaps might debadge the 'roxx' section

Saw Pratap Bose in a video where he claimed the alloy wheel design resembles the hand gesture of rocks ( \m/ ). The design is good enough but the reasoning was pretty cringe, reminded me of 'sunglasses inspired headlight for the sunglasses wearing cool youth' of Mahindra's earlier KUV100

Oh and also read somewhere Mahindra is calling the new grille 6-pack grille. Is it so if anyone can confirm? How more cringe can it get. On the flipside, the grille appears proper for a lot of their customers to simply go and buy and stick those orange lights like the RAM TRX. Will be easier to apply.

Overall, this product will be accepted widely, by city dwellers for a high rise SUV with practicality but have no other interesting option than a Creta or Seltos (provided the ride quality is nothing like thar 3 door), a lot of Thar 3 door buyers will move towards it, but a really big chunk of Scorpio Classic sales might move towards Thar 5 door. Its a feature laden, more modern and obviously refined, and equally fear inducing butch looking car. Ticks a lot of boxes of a majority of Scorpio Classic customers.

Off topic: Why does Mahindra not provide an option of getting the flagship audio as a paid premium accessory in lower variants? From 3XO to XUV700.

A person may not prefer to have ADAS (at least at this moment) but may really love a high end audio. If anyone from Mahindra is reading this, please consider the possibility. You'll make some additional moolah that a lot of your customers, especially Thar customers go to the aftermarket for
