Both companies will have independence to be or not be with each other for each project where as before, Nissan required approvals from Renault due to higher share-holding. All their common alliance operations has been split into two each other's independent organization.

I think the alliance world itself is little bit exploratory when it comes to organization as rather than a Joint venture which means all operations works together like a same company, the alliance is basically if required, we can share some projects but through proper commercial channels.

Toyota/Suzuki been doing this all around without calling it a name for their alliance.

re: Nissan & Honda exploring merger possibilities

Honda and Nissan consider mutual production of vehicles.

- Honda and Nissan are considering producing vehicles in one another's factories as part of their plan to deepen ties and potentially merge.
-Honda will consider supplying hybrid vehicles to Nissan as part of the plan.
-A merger of Honda, Japan's second-largest car company, and Nissan, its third largest, would create the world's third-largest auto group by vehicle sales, behind Toyota and Volkswagen, making 7.4 million vehicles a year.
-The two automakers forged a strategic partnership in March to cooperate in electric vehicle development, but Nissan has faced financial and strategic troubles in recent months.
- Honda could use Nissan's car factory in Britain, as it now only has factories for engines and motorcycles in Europe.
-The move comes amid concerns over how the US president-elect's policies may shake up manufacturing with his promises of protectionist trade policies.

Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi Motors sign MOU on collaborative considerations.

- Mitsubishi Motors to explore participation or involvement in the consideration of business integration.

The automakers are pursuing talks to create a holding company that will be the parent company of both. The discussions are expected to conclude by January 2025.

Quote:
Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi Motors have reached a basic agreement to proceed with discussions based on the framework established in the MOU signed by Nissan and Honda on August 1 regarding the commencement of a strategic partnership focused on intelligence and electrification. Mitsubishi Motors has been participating in this framework, and the three companies have been proceeding with discussions.

Following the agreement between Nissan and Honda to start consideration toward a business integration through the establishment of a joint holding company amid the dramatic changes in the environment surrounding both companies and the automotive industry, the three companies have agreed to explore the possibility of achieving synergies at an increased level through Mitsubishi Motors’ participation or involvement in the business integration. Mitsubishi Motors aims to reach its conclusion by the end of January 2025 on the participation or involvement in the business integration between Nissan and Honda.
“Honda and Nissan have begun considering a business integration, and will study the creation of significant synergies between the two companies in a wide range of fields. It is significant that Nissan's partner, Mitsubishi Motors, is also involved in these discussions. We anticipate that if this integration comes to fruition, we will be able to deliver even greater value to a wider customer base. “

Honda-Nissan merger talks: No impact on partnerships with Renault, GM.

Nissan is part of the strategic Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, while Honda has a partnership with General Motors to develop electric vehicles.

I really hope that this partnership, if it happens, kicks-off and it results in well being of both the companies and also results in good products for the customers. I really enjoyed driving Nissan Juke in UK. It was such a funky car and had the 1.5L dCI 110 BHP engine and had nice interiors. I thought that Nissan should have brought that car to India. I think even the Kicks was a nice car.

Qashqai is another excellent car. It had fantastic reviews in the UK.

Yes. Kicks is a good SUV. Nissan could not get good dealers / Service set up in India. One reason why it is not succesful in India. Large chain of dealers already taken by the likes of Toyota /Hyundai / Tata Motors.
With this amalgamation, customers will surely get wider choice of vehicles. This can pose challenges to employees since mergers always lead to elimination of duplication and down sizing of employees.

Merger would be great for Indian market. Both are struggling here, they would benefit greatly by combining their resources. Nissan needs to let go of the Renault partnership.

Honda, Nissan & Mitsubishi sign MoU for potential merger; To form new company by 2026

Honda, Nissan & Mitsubishi held a press conference yesterday, announcing that they have officially begun discussions for a potential merger of the three companies.

All three brands signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), wherein a new holding company will be established through a joint share transfer between all three companies. However, Mitsubishi is still evaluating whether or not to be part of the merger, with the final decision expected to be made by January 2025.

Once the partnership is formed, Nissan & Honda will also sign a separate MoU - which will standardise vehicle platforms to reduce costs and also integrate the two brand's R&D functions. The two brands will also optimise their manufacturing facilities to share production lines and further streamline supply chain operations.

The merger between the Japanese brands is expected to be complete by August 2026, post which the new company will be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The MoU also states that Honda will nominate a majority of internal and external directors to run the joint holding company.

The announcement of the MoU signing comes after weeks of rumours about the possible merger, amidst Nissan's financial struggles. In addition to the automotive business, the partnership between Honda & Nissan will also include two-wheelers and aviation.

It's hard to compete alone against the Chinese, especially with the rise of their EVs. I think we'll see more mergers like this soon.

A few days ago, Nio launched its ET9.

The above video is a testament to the fact that the Chinese comprehensively beat the rest of the world when it comes to making reliable, sensible, and desirable cars.

The lower European designs have plunged, the better looking and mature have the Chinese designs become.

Unless the solid-state batteries redefine auto transportation (which I seriously doubt,) it'll be quite hard to beat the Chinese.

I, for one, am all for Chinese cars.

It's not nationalism that wins, but common sense.

In a way, I'm pleased to find Nissan in its current situation. Serves them well for the boardroom coup they sprung on Carlos Ghosn. Today, they're the ones exposed as lacking leadership and executive depth.

As for Honda, I see very little for them to gain from the collaboration. The only winners are the Japanese Ministers who orchestrated this takeover, irrespective of how they'd want the rest of the world to perceive this as a merger.
