Thanks a lot. I had seen this link. But I thought that the chassis number is mandatory.

Chassis number is mandatory to get the whole address and other details like Hypothecation, etc of the vehicle. With only the Regn number you can find what class of vehicle, and just the name of the owner.

Well, I think there is some error in the database.

I checked my Pulsar 150 and I found that all other details are correct except the tax paid which is shown as a whooping Rs.9000. I've never paid 9000 as Road tax !

Like every government initiative, this one too is filled with bugs. In many cases, i've seen wrong vehicle maker (I've seen Tata buses registered as Ashok Leyland), and in one worst case, the same number was shown as a truck as well as a bike!

Hi,

But the information is not 100% accurate. Vehicles long sold are still in my name, th elast time I checked.

It would eventually be a good place to get information once the data ebntry etc is completed.

Thanks Binai and Rajesh.

I was just checking the site. Indeed the data is not that accurate. The horsepower of many vehicles seems to be tuned down in Kerala! ;)

I guess this address the privacy concerns aired here in the past.

If you are a potential buyer, you have access to the vehicle documents, and can cross check them here.

But if you a casual looker (like checking the ownership of the shiny spanky new car in your neighbour's yard), the owner's name would be good enough.

:D We are into tuning aren't we?

Jokes apart a good initiative from the authorities.

When this site was opened , it was having an option to login and log out , do any one remember that ?

Actually any civilians are allowed to log in ?

That funcnality is not working now for civilians ?

I remember having created to trying to create login for the site. Now it doesnt seem to need the login. I have forgotten it any way.

Now this has been done away with. You got to enter chassis number and engine number to get the details.

Good thing. Now, this will serve the real purpose - enter the regn number, get the required details from the RC book and then verify if the seller is the real owner of the vehicle you are looking to buy.

No more rowing phishers looking to match a random number with my address and come up with fake claims.

Well.. not really a good thing IMHO. It invades into your private life as well. Here is something I did with this site:

I was stuck in a small traffic jam on my way to office at Infopark. Another car hits my car from the rear pretty hard. And he takes the left most side and tries to flee. I noted the number. Once I reached office, I found out the name of the owner and the RTO under which he registered. Fortunately he had a very unique name which only a few have. I tracked down his BSNL land line number from another website and called to his home. Somebody answered. I asked for his mobile number in a hurry. They thought it is something urgent and passed on the number to me. Finally I called him up asking for compensation for the damage that was done. All this happened in a span of 15 minutes and he was still driving. I scared the hell out of that guy. It was evident from his breaking words !! And not just that. I was able to track down his house with the help of google maps.

Isn't that bad if this info had fallen into some gangster's hands ?

checked just now and I don't see any change :(

Reg no gives:
owner name + tax paid details + vehicle details

Reg no + chassis no gives:
owner name + tax paid details + vehicle details + address + hypothecation details

The owner history details was not working for a while, but it is working now. Otherwise, it is status quo

You are right, i rechecked now. I guess i didn\'t pay enough attention.

Is there any way to pre-book a number at the rto without getting your car, its engine no. or chassis number, just by showing the booking receipt? I will get delivery of my car in say 10 day\'s time, and i want to book a specific number. Can anyone guide me?

Thanks in advance.
