The rear of the A-star looks a lot like the Aveo U-VA to me.
From the front, the aggressive styling of the concept from the Auto Show has been lost, and didnt look very appealing to me.

Same here. The concept looked much better - dont know why they have to screw up a good thing, during the transition from concept to market.

Don't know why, but I am hating the looks of all these supposedly new designs (i10, SX4 and now these) coming into the market, while everyone else seems to go gaga about them. Maybe I'm too old-fashioned.

Simple SB, because concepts are meant to remain concepts. It will be too expensive to produce the Astar seen at the Auto Expo. Check out for the swift design when it was in concept stages. Compare with what we have now.

my opinion is the same as urs supremebaleno. I dont really find the new designs such as those u mentioned along with zen estillo, verna, grande etc, infact the old Maruti 800 quite as interesting as the older ones. I still find the old zen, baleno, esteem, accent, honda city much better than the current ones. Now a days design seems to be more of adding bigger head lamps , wheel arches, grille changes and adding a spoiler. But well like you said, I too am old-fashioned i suppose.

Ajo, then why have concepts itself, wasting precious money/time/effort on something which they have no plans of getting to market more-or-less as-is.

Rotorhead, thanks for reminding me of the Estilo (the Jap version of it sucks even more), Verna and Grande. I hate the new C-class too, especially the front - just love the previous version which was sheer 'poetry in motion'. But I saw atleast 4 of the new ones on the road in Kerala last week, which means the market loves it.

Also this 'beard' style front seems everywhere now! STarting with AUDI now Hyundai, Ford, Chevy and even Suzuki have copied it.

i seriously doubt such a great concept car(A Star) being made into a production car that looks so bad!!!
maybe afterall its not A star itself.. maybe its a design made by MSIL for India.
i think it might replace the Alto....the boot definitely reminds me of the Alto.

Splash also is not very attractive....its boot is just horrible.

I am sorry for being such a critic

Edit - sorry just found this link, wanted to add it in here
Maybe the AStar is afterall going to replace the Alto - as per the news on this page.

The A Star has been the most disappointing Concept- Production Stage Car IMO. A Star was supposed to be designed in India and mainly targetted for
Exports.

We can also compare the gear shift location that is different in Splash.

Concepts are usually overboard designs, but expect some cues to rollover the production variant. The A-Star production is not even a distant cousin of the concept ! Is that an A-Star for sure?

Yup it is. It does resemble the Production Stage pics posted in overdrive.
These pics were posted in the forum few months back.

Boy!

The A-star is ugly. From the back it is Alto + UVA and from the front it looks like some modded car....add to it the cheap looking interiors.

The splash however, has good interiors. I liked the new style. But the rear of Splash is something new for India. All the time we saw the rear of all cars was a bulge outside, and this is the other way. But going by the history, people will welcome this, thanks to Maruti.

The splash certainly, is an I10 killer. Hyundai must be having nightmares....
