This new alto design is really good.
I hope it transforms to reality with a better build quality.

They have just mentioned the A-star as Alto. I seriously doubt that Maruti will mess up with the present Alto and launch a successor in October/November 2008. The present Alto has achieved greater success than even what Maruti had thought. It is still selling like hot cakes and did the unthinkable of replacing Maruti 800 as the highest seller in our market.

The A-star will be a seperate car and so will be Splash. And by the time 2008 Paris Motor show takes place on October 4, 2008 to October 19, 2008, we will already have road tests in car magazines.

They would like to debut A Star and Splash as practical alternative models.

If person don't like WagonR or ZEN Estilo looks and still need Maruti car in the similar segment then MUL executive will suggest A star.

If person cant decide on Swift and other few cars MUL executive would push Splash.

If person already decided on A star or Splash easy life for Maruti.

Maruti has read indian mind very much and more products on the table would more attract people towards it

Regards,

Ravi.

Now one more person shows the A-star as Alto. I really wonder what will be Maruti's strategy:

The article:
Quote:
First previewed as the A-Star concept at the New Delhi Auto Expo in January, the seventh generation Suzuki Alto will make its world debut in Paris this October.
The new Suzuki Alto packs a new Euro 5 compliant 1.0-litre aluminium petrol engine with CO2 emissions lower than 109g/km.
Positioned as Suzuki's new global car, the Alto will be produced at Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar plant, and sold mainly in Europe but also in India and other countries.
Initial production is due to start in October 2008, and full-scale production for Europe is due to start in December 2008 followed by expansion for other markets around the world.
In addition to the Alto, Suzuki will also display their latest two hydrogen fuel-cell models in Paris: the SX4-FCV which uses a GM-made fuel cell stack and the “crosscage” which features a lightweight air-cooled fuel-cell system from British specialist company Intelligent Energy.

If it launches by this year-end, get ready to drive it by mid-2009.

I guess the new-Alto is almost the same as the A-Star. Maybe different names for different markets. But I guess Maruti should stop launching Diesel models till the Supply-Demand curve is in equilibrium. But then Indian customers wont let them happen!!

True. However in Kolkata there is no shortage of Swift VDI's . However Dzire is facing a huge crunch ( both petrol and diesel) with wait periods of more than 3 months . So i guess its not only the diesel model but the overall Supply-Demand Curve..

A week max if you want a colour which is not readily available with them!!!

If they launch a splash vdi , then thats going to be my next car for sure . I think they will be pitting it against Indica Dicor and pricing it by Rs 20k-30k less as compared to the exisiting Swift VDI !! I wonder if will they tune the engine too for lesser power ?? Also will there ever be a SX4 diesel ??

Agreed but even Maruti Esteem was always a great seller ( atleast here in Kol) + when they had given discounts the Esteem sold like anything in kolkata, but still they withdrew it from the Market !! But again you are right alto is a hot seller and they most probabaly will be introducing the A Star and Splash to showcase the range of choices which are available from the Maruti Stable in the Hatchback segment !

with alto and a-star competing with each other, the consumer will have choice. Tall people could go for a-start instead of alto in around the same budget. In the end the winner is Maruti. Ne ideas when the splash and a-star will be launched

Maruti Esteem was outdated as compared to competetion. The Origins of Esteem can be routed back to Maruti 1000. So it was quite old in a higher segment.

In case of Alto, it has recored some very good sales and is the largest selling car in India, which is the one of the most complicated markets in the world.

Alto is relatively new design which is having atlesast 3-4 years life. The platform is good and this platform's car were sold under different brand names in Japan.
The same cannot be said about esteem. Also lately the country wide sales of Esteem had reduced, so this was a good move by replacing Esteem with Dzire, which is a huge success.
