The website mentions as the engine as 1.9 TDI with PD technology.

High-pressure diesel

The 1.9 litre TDI with ‘Pumpe Düse’ direct injection technology eliminates any compromise – you can have performance as well as exceptional economy. It develops impressive torque of 250 Nm at 1900 rpm and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 11.8 seconds.

that is Autocar UK

Honda Accord is not the same in the UK as we get in india.. its the other european version which is TOTALLY different than us which we get here.

this verrsion is smaller in size and slightly larger than the Civic, so in that case autocar is correct that jetta is competing with the Accord there .

Unlike the Fabia which is being imported from Europe. Implies better margins for VW I guess.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was quoting the dealer - he seemed damn sure. So much for his knowledge.

I saw a silver Jetta outside the CCI chambers in Chruchgate. It was a registered car with white number plates! How can they have a registered car on the roads even before it's officially launched or could it be a dealer car?

I just had a conversation with Mr Rajesh Bansal, Sales Manager, Kashyap Vehicle Works Private Limited (dealer in Delhi & NCR). As per Mr Bansal, Jetta is being launched on 23 July 08 and will be available in show rooms from 17 July onwards. Ex-showroom price for diesel car will be 14.5 lac and automatic top end will be 17.5 lac.

Why couldnt they introduce the TSI engines here? That would have been quite a blast for the enthusiasts. Now, the Jetta and the Laura are essentially going to be the same car with different bodies (for the 1.9 TDI). And 17.5 Lakh for the top end version's just too expensive.

Autobild said that the fuel quality in India is not good enough to introduce those engines

Guys this is my first post here so first of all hello to everybody..

Today my friend was at Amby Valley, Lonavla for his musical performance. The occasion was "Volkswagen" launch of " A4 " where VW " Jetta " was also displayed.

My friend is not much into cars but got some info regarding the price of "Jetta" which will be starting from 13 Lakhs and the top end model for 16 Lakhs. The guy refused to give further information and didn't allow to take pics. But my friend managed to get couple of pics only from the front which I'm posting here.

The white Audi " A4 " and the red VW " Jetta ".............

Is that ex-showroom or on road? There is absolutely nothing(except build quality) in this car for such a high price.

Also heard that the quality check is going down the drain. We were driving this car here in US in some remote location. It was brand new rental car. About couple of hundreds done. The rear wheel started smoking profusely after going up and down on couple of hills. It looks like some kind of brake pad jam, not sure what was the exact cause.

That front grill chrome didn't look stupid at all on a black car. In fact it looked good.
