While this shouldn't be an issue with cities, I wonder how pumps located in smaller towns and villages would be able to track and update prices on daily basis. Also, in case some pump fails to update prices, how would loss to customer/dealer be compensated.

I can see retail rate for petrol/diesel featuring on newspaper beside the weather and stock market information!

@ksameer1234; I had raised the same point quite some time back, but there was an input from Indianoil that all their dealers are connected. However, in some disturbed areas the connectivity can be dodgy or be switched off.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

A very funny but odd thing came across my mind. What if i start filling petrol / diesel in the night around 11.55 but tank gets full after 12 am. What would I be charged ? will it be based on the time I started filling or when I completed filling ?

Surely this wont happen with the vehicles having small tanks, but imagine vehicles with huge tanks which travel in the night daily.

Will the rates be changed at midnight or anytime after 12 am ?

I guess the SOP would be same as what happens currently on the midnight of 15th and 30th/31st of every month. This would anyway apply only to pumps which operate for 24 hrs.

Updating the prices in such cases would be tricky. Also, this is sure to add to the accounting headache for dealers who would need to maintain stock and sales details on daily basis diligently.

What if dealer cons and sets price few paisa higher than that day's price and if he happens to one of those high sale outlets, dealer can easily earn his labor expenses through this means. Most of us will not bother to cross verify before filling in!

Has petrol prices increased in Tamilnadu recently? I was surprised to see Bangalore's and Hosur's petrol price to be almost same. A few paisa difference.

I guess this is bound to happen. FIlled petrol in Pune from a pump near my home @77.22/l. On the way checked my usual filling station @77.24 and yet another one at @77.28. All within city limits.

Hence the chance to earn exta money is always ion the offing

India's largest fuel retailer IndianOil on Monday said consumers would be able to see updated prices of petrol and diesel in all cities through the company's mobile app -- Fuel@IOC -- once the daily price revision kicks in from Friday.
Consumers can also cross-check the prices applicable in their city by sending an SMS, 'RSPDEALER CODE' to 92249-92249. The company has taken steps to ensure all its petrol pumps display the dealer code prominently.

Must be a bus or truck with a 300-400 litre tank. Yes, makes a difference if the higher price is charged

That marginal difference is due to location of the pump. Different areas come under different zones, and the pricing changes by that little amount.

I think along with the zone, the fuel company also matters. HP, Indian Oil and BP do not price the fuel at the same cost, even if the outlets are next to each other. There is always a few paisa difference between them. I believe they do this to avoid being charged for being a cartel by the authorities (Competition and something something)

Got this info from a news flash by NDTV. Unable to attach the screenshot though

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

With the set of pumps on daily revisions increasing this may be one of the last 'big bang' announcements.
