It's urban v/s highway or rural thing. Applicable everywhere. Not a big deal.

Doesn't add up. I have refueled at remote locations in Karnataka but the difference was never more than 50 paise. This one I filled at a highway IOCL bunk only. And 1.5 rupees is not a small amount, I paid almost the same price I was paying two weeks back before price cut.

Today I refueled near Davangere, another highway Jio BP bunk and paid the same price that I pay in Bangalore.

HP has reduced the price of Power 95 petrol as well by 2 INR - from 109 to 107. So I think it depends on fuel companies for premium fuels.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I headed out for an early morning drive and realised fuel level was down to the last bar in the MID display, my usual HP COCO bunk was not open, so drove to a nearby Shell outlet for a huge shock - regular Diesel was priced Rs.125.80 a litre I filled for Rs.1000 which got the tank a meagre 7.95 litres!
To their credit, the Shell pump attendant warned me immediately about the high prices and I decided to fill up for just Rs.1000.

Couple hours later, on the way back home, I got a full tank of Diesel for the Harrier at the HP COCO bunk where it was Rs.85.92 a litre.

What are the guys at Shell smoking or are they adding gold dust in the Diesel

Same thing happened with me. I was surprised why there was no mention of this in the forum. People with diesel cars should not go anywhere near Shell. Prices are 50% higher. Yes 40Rs per liter more than PSU fuel stations in Bangalore. When enquired they told with out subsidy diesel prices are coming to 125.

These prices have been prevalent for years now and has been discussed to death already. Even with such prices, some consumers prefer Shell as they say the performance and FE is better(my regular cab operator is one such person). The few times I have used their petrol and diesel, I couldn't find any perceptible difference. Even if the FE was marginally higher, the costs more than killed the gains.

Out on highways, I see some bunks advertising that they sell fuel at market rates. I would have wanted to give it another try but I never needed fuel while crossing those bunks.

We have limited refineries across the country, churning out the same fuel. As far as I know, Shell doesn't own a refinery here. So a plain diesel at Shell should be at par with those available at PSU pumps and as such, no reason to pay any premium.

.
Shell prices are usually higher by 10-20%. Everyone is aware of this. But 50% or Rs. 40 extra for same quality is outrageous. The mileage I got is less than what I normally get from my trusted HP pump. I have no idea why they should sell Diesel with such a price difference. There may be some smoothness due to additives Shell is adding. But FE is same or worse.

Probably the election effect.
P.S. Never thought that I'd see anyone paying 107 INR per liter and then ask if the rates have come down

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

I was in Bangalore couple of weeks back. The petrol price was Rs.100 or 102 (can't remember correctly). Was shocked to see it since I am used to fill petrol at the rate of Rs.107.xx per liter. I remember that around 2013, fuel was more expensive in Bangalore than KL.

Fuel in KA is one of the cheapest in the country right now. In 2013, KA was 15-20 rupees more expensive than OD. Now it is 10 rupees cheaper (15 when I refuel in AP).

True. Some happy history behind the same is that when GoI cut excise and cess on fuel in 2021, they ensured all the BJP-led states passed on the full benefit to end customers. KA enjoyed a staggering ~8/litre drop in one go.

No state government (BJP or Congress) have dared to add it back as state duties.

It looks like the gap is wide only for diesel. 86 in Dobaspete and 92 at SP Koil (both IOCL COCO). Petrol is 100 in Dobaspete and 102.xx in SP Koil

Metro rates - specifically Bangalore rates only Sira, Hubli pump rates aren't that wide compared to PSU. You can check the rates here.

The gap I am talking about predates 2021. I have been filling diesel in KA, AP, TS and OD since 2019. KA has always been cheaper unlike 2012-13 when the state used to have one of the most expensive fuel in the country.

The transition seems to have happened around 2014 probably.
