COVID has hurt everybody, nobody is in their glory except for a handful of industrialists. Every increase in the price is like rubbing salt into the wound of common *helpless* man.

This too from the same set of idiots, who used to protest with donkeys.

OT, government is collecting road cess from fuel. We're paying road tax and tolls too. So basically we're paying for a single product in three different forms? *sigh*

Now a days Petrol Pumps as basically tax collection centers which also sell petrol and diesel.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Why do all the articles in media have the same rhetoric, "The price of petroleum products are benchmarked to international product prices"? Anybody who reads any fuel related article knows this.

We don't need to be reminded this everytime. What we need to know is why are these prices not benchmarked around elections? Why and how do the companies absorb the fluctuations then?

There was a WhatsApp forward for this. It is Mumbai's tribute to Donald Bradman.

Wholesale Inflation at 12.94%, the highest ever. I look forward to the self professed economics experts tell us how fuel prices don't have a knock-on effect on prices of other products due to depreciation, low share of basket etc.,

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Every time I contemplate a new vehicle purchase, I'm faced with the triple-digit petrol prices. At this point, I think it makes better sense to just wait a little bit and buy an EV. The rate of interest on the loan is definitely lower than the rate of inflation and the increase in fuel prices!

Unfortunately for you, that is correct. The 12.94% inflation is a statistical artefact caused by a low base - inflation in the 12 months to May 2020 was -3.37% (negative 3.37%); so WPI inflation over the last two years averages just 4.5%. Further, WPI is not a good metric since it is influenced too much by commodity price fluctuations - CPI which is the metric people look at is also up a lot due to base effects but is just 6.8%. The fact is fuel prices don’t matter unless you are a taxi operator.
