At one time you went to the Germans for solidity, Italians for flar (and engines), and Japanese for reliability.

Now you go to Dai Nippon for all! The east has taken over. If you want value for money you may have to look at Korea!!

I found another Skoda "incident" here -

Autocar India Forums: SKODA - Terrible Experience

Not sure if this guy is a team-bhp member but he's also reported chronic trouble.

Check out Skoda India's site - they now have customer testimonials. Skoda Auto - CarBuy. Funnily enough the same customer appears in the testimonial for Octavia as well as for Superb while raving about the 10/10 of the New Laura! All testimonials have the same date 25/08/2009!

I read their Notice in Public Interest..."It has come to our notice that some of the unauthorised firms in your region are wrongfully using our registered Trade Marks ..... so as to illegitimately take advantage of “Škoda” goodwill and reputation."

Further "For all your authorised services and for fitment of only genuine spares parts and accessories in your vehicle please contact the nearest authorised dealers only."

I just fell of the chair laughing!!

marikar cochin issue

Received this mail just now.

Dear Mr.Harish,

Hope you are back from the US. How was your trip.

Regarding my problem with Skoda, initially at the instance of Skoda Auto the Dealer came forward to do the repair work at the cost of the Dealer for which I was not not agreeable. I have insisted for a replacement of the engine head.

After too much of negotiation, the Dealer agreed to take back the damged Octavia at a cost of Rs 7.75 lakhs and I have decided to buy a Laura AT for which they have offered me a special discount of Rs One Lakh.I have agreed for this and they have given me a standby car till the Laura is delivered to me.

Thank you very much for the effort taken by you.
Yours truly,
xxxxx xxxxx

Harish, congrats!
You've accepted defeat with a philosophical attitude!
Just that I am left wondering what all the ado was about!?
No wonder we get cheated with equanimity!

@anupmathur: I do not follow your conclusion/implications. Is this HarsihV or some other accepting defeat?

anup, I think that's someone else who's accepted a new Laura. Harish is still going ahead with his case.

You might think the chap who accepted a Laura sold out on the lawsuit or TBhp or whatever but if I was in his place I'd do the exact same thing. Not all of us have the mental strength, time and money to fight corporations. Kudos to those who do, but why blame those who choose to cut their losses and run?

I guess you have misunderstood anup. I have not accepted defeat. This was a gentleman from Kerala who had a problem. I tried helping him out. He settled with the dealer to his satisfaction.

I totally agree with you. My objective is in seeing a problem get resolved rather than aggravate it. The crux of the matter is the customer is satisfied with the deal he is getting with the dealer. Also I don't think he sold out on the lawsuit. . I do not see anyone wish to enter in to a lawsuit for anything that can be settled.

saa-koda creating blunders often with Indian customers we hope that no team bhpian should face the problems faced by Harish and Gagananand.
