If they launth the recently discontinued Fiesta, unless priced cheap it will bomb as it will be mistaken as a smaller Fusion. Ford need more flair in their designs over here and they have the products in Europe for this

Any body has any news about this ,we got this news from Planet Ford Pune.
Think i had mentioned this couple of weeks before. They are coming with a new variant called SXi Premium only in the diesel side. It will have new alloys, turn indicators on the RVM, & chrome strips & door handles. It is priced 11,000 above the current SXi-diesel.

It was supposed to have been launched last week, but getting postponed; may be due to the inauspicious Aadi / Ashada month. Can expect this soon in the showroom.

Quite true, specially with the advent of the more modern looking and stylish hatches such as the i20.

Exactly that is what I though. If Ford is not smart enough to come up up to date products, they will end up having a product that will not succeed.
I20, Jazz and Punto have raised the bar as far as physical outlook goes. If Ford does not work out with a new model, all the three above mentioned cars will simply crush Ford small car.

Ford has two things in Europe :
a) Models in Europe that are good looking
b) Diesel engines.

Ford must be smart enough to use the above two points to its full potential. 1.4 and 1.6 diesels will allow it to compete with Swift and higher sedans like Jazz.

This absolutely looks like Ford's made for India hatch based on the Fiesta platform. The pics posted by jpm show hints of a subtle rear spoiler behind that camouflage, besides christmas tree rear lights. Its gonna have an aggressive front end styling like the Ikon and will continue with the same Duratorq diesel and Duratec petrol mills.Maybe a smaller petrol will also be offered..

They can enjoy some good numbers if they bring the cars like the new focus and Mondeo. Definitely there is opportunity which Honda is enjoying right now for Ford than Hyundai/Fiat/GM/Maruti. They can plug this gap and then concentrate on a sub 5 lakh hatch and a sub 7 lakh hatch that can do good volumes.

Has anyone picked up the last issue of AutoBild where they had a scoop on Ford's new hatchback? (It disappeared from the shelves before i could get one.) What do they say in that article?

The confusion is whether they are bringing in the 6th Gen Fiesta or getting the 5th Gen Fiesta with some facelift incorporateing the 6th Gen features? If they bring in the 6th Gen it will be a very good decision.

Hope they do the right thing.

The problem with the new generation hatchbacks in Europe like the latest generation Fiesta is that there is a lot of over emphasis on factors like interior design and quality, handling, full NCAP rating etc. While these are appreciated by true auto buffs they struggle to become a convincing buying decision to the standard Indian consumer whose priorities are focussed towards space, price, fuel efficiency etc.
If the latest Fiesta is lauched it will end up costing Rs. 7 lac+ (a crude estimation considering that in the U.K it starts from £10.5k), what volumes would be justifiable at such a price. There is no doubt it is a better car than either the Fabia or the Jazz. But if Ford is looking for volumes this is the wrong car to choose.
They need a grounds up design for India, maybe based on an existing platform but more suited to Indian tastes and wallets.

Hatchbacks account for nearly 3/4th the Indian market. Yes, the Focus & Mondeo are great driver cars. But going back to my previous point, if Ford is serious about volumes, they need a great sub 6 lakh rupee hatchback!

The Fiesta Duratec 1.6 SXI Premium and 1.4 Duratorq SXI Premium have been launched 2 days back. Had talked to a guy from Lathangi ford today, he said it comes with alloys. And they are not giving the free insurance for this model, it seems.

Fiesta 1.6 Duratec SXI Premium :
Ex-showroom -7,08,000
OTR (Blr) - 8,46,349/-
Fiesta 1.4 Duratorq SXI Premium :
Ex-showroom -7,99,000
OTR (Blr) - 9,53,588/-

They've added alloys, Chrome RVM & body colured bumper grill. Alloys look cool, but the chrom RVM looks gaudy, and so is the bumper grill. Prefer the old SXi itself but for the alloys.

Basically they have increased the price marginally (Rs.7000), but cut down on the free insurance part. Effectively no price change if one were to go in for after market alloys anyway in the earlier version of SXi.

EDIT: Wonder why the thought of adding the 1.6 TDCi is not cross their stupid mind

I remember that one from Casino Royale. Looked very good when it was tearing up the streets with James Bond driving it.

Coming from confidential sources, Ford is indeed launching a brand new small car in India (an i10-style world launch) in Jan. 2010 - probably at the Auto Expo. It is apparently based on a completely new platform, not that of the Ka or Verve. Size: somewhere between i10 and i20. Price: somewhere at i10 levels for the base model. Engine: sub-1.2L petrol and sub-1.5L diesel.
