Guys, let the discussion continue based on facts. Please do not turn a sales statistics thread into a "I spotted this car xxx times" conversation.

What about Sumo (is it not considered as MUV?) it sells like potatoes with cab operators and in rural areas. And of course quality is also like a potato. But still quite popular amongst large population for its price and convenience. Maybe good number per month may be sold

@ Arun : Sales stats show that the Sumo has lost favour with the market. Tata needs a competent new MUV, but they've only focussed on the Indica / Indigo / Nano in the past decade. Spy pics are on the forum, I hope they launch their supposed Innova-killer soon.

GTO, I don't think there is a need for an Innova Killer, if any there is now a need for Tata to find a Xylo Killer . I read in one of the posts that they sold 8000 Xylos in July

8000 a month is not bad for a product , which was derisively laughed at for its name, styling & even for the fact that its multi dispaly can show the picture of your favourite god !! So down market & taxi like was the refrain. And its party was supposed to be over.

Just proves that enthusiast automotive forums cant make or break a product & that their views do not necessarily reflect the market realities.

The indian buying public are no fools. If they see a value proposition , they will grab it.

While the rest of your post is accurate, this line certainly isn't. I suggest you go back and look at the posts - including mine - that predicted success for the Xylo. It's but natural that a weird looking MUV with shoddy dynamics will be given the thumbs down by enthusiasts.

But at the same time, we accepted that the Xylo offers tremendous value and, with the strength of Mahindra's distribution, will sell very well. It serves the needs of its target market bang on target.

As Mahindra would know themselves, a petrolhead wasn't part of that target segment.

Fiat Sells 2690 units approx. 250 more cars than June 09

Hi! I just got to know that, Fiat has sold 2690 units of cars, though the break up is not available, I understand, it will be mostly from Punto which must have been aroung 1700 - 1800 units and rest linea. Despite of a great car and package, the Linea is struggling to beat the 1000 mark, while Honda City is crossing 2500 mark with ease! As posted earlier, Fiat must reach 4000 per month to ensure they have considerable presence in the market. The are far behind as of now.

The new engine option should help the Grande with sales.

Fiat India July 2009 Sales

This is what I came across (same figure as mentioned by Omar .. same source ?)

Fiat sales success in India

Fiat has a boom sales success in India, selling 2,690 cars in the month of July, up from 412 sold in July 2008. The Fiat India sales in July can be added to those of the first six months of this year, at a total of 7,544 units. That’s a huge increase on the 1,813 Fiats sold in the same period last year.
It seems that the Fiat-Tata collaboration is already paying off, with the inception of Fiat Automobiles India Ltd. The company has broadened its dealership network and introduced the 1.3 Multijet engine on the Palio Stile model. It seems Fiat has also been able to conquer the hearts of the Indian press with the Linea model.
The Fiat 500 is a success but only in a niche market, with customers who can afford the import duties, but the Grande Punto, which has been manufactured in India since June, is affecting these July sales figures, showing promise for the future.

Awaiting the July '09 sales figures?

I think this will be the last chance for Fiat to improve their A S S. The Sales Numbers are good, so are the Products. So, now they've to take up the Service part and reduce the Cost of Ownership.
