Maruti can choose to get a little adventurous with the Swift now that they actually have the Ritz almost in the same segment. As they already said, Swift is going to remain the drivers choice. Lets see and hope that we get better than K-series 1200cc engine.

i have news from a reliable friend over at bosch, who states that the new swift which will be bs-4 will be launched with a K-SERIES engine. whether it will be the 1.2 litre engine from the ritz is yet unconfirmed.

also there is news that the swift will be getting the 1.6 litre heart of the popularly known SWIFT SPORT sometime next year (read as third quarter).

Good news. An apple for both mileage savvy as well as performance savvy customers!

the new restyled WAGON-R will be coming to india soon too. it will be having the K-SERIES engine from the estilo and surprise surprise, also the 1.3multijet which features in the swift/ritz.

Maruti, be bold enough to fit the 1.2L K-series engine in Wagon-R... At least a 1.1L 4 cylinder K-series.

i believe, maruti wont fit its DDiS engine on WagonR, infact firstly its SwiftD is yet to roll out with newer norms tweaked engine, with new k series petrol engine, along with new WagonR with same estilo;s petrol engine.
Any news of swift D coming out with new norms date?

I agree. The 1.0 L A-star engine passes on a lot of vibrations on the steering and gear shift being a 3 pot. Also, low end response is nothing much to write home about, even when compared to the old F10D engine.

1.3 MJD on WR is a great news though! But I hope it doesn't become a Indica taxi replacement.

The engine on both, Swift and Ritz are the same.
But in Ritz it comes with E-IV format. So Maurti has this engine ready in E-IV format.
Its only matter of time before Swift gets E-IV DDis.
IIRC, its not a big mechanical change, but just ECU.

Has the booking for 1.3L petrol swift being stopped?

Superveloce,
You seem to be getting a lot of credible information, personally believe the 1.6 SX-4 should be a good bet and a winner as well. It should be selling well compared to Hyundai Verna...

If the Fiesta 1.6D is also launched, it wont be an easy win for SX4.

Wrong, in my opinion. Customers buying Diesel in this segment are looking for low cost of running rather than performance. So, a 1.4L or 1.6L Fiesta won't make too much of a difference for them. The motor should pull the vehicle nicely. That's it.

Well, I feel that some people choose Verna diesel over Fiesta 1.4D mainly because of its engine (Hyundai A.S.S could also be another factor). Also, the 1.6 and 1.4 would make lot of difference in performance. So this really matters to the enthusiasts (irrespective of segment).

Verna and Fiesta are selling almost in same numbers.

If somebody opts Verna over a Fiesta, it will most probably be because of the a.s.s. Hyundai offers compared to Ford. Those who cite performance as the reason for this selection, will be very limited, IMO.

The so called 'enthusiasts' is much less in number when compared to customers looking for peace of mind.

And a Maruti offers much more 'peace of mind' than a Ford or even Hyundai, IMO.

Not yet. But it should happen soon - Maruti needs to introduce the new engine much before the March 31 deadline, so the K-series engine should just be around the corner - i'd expect it to be in a month or two.

Now that SX4 will be [re]launched with AT [link], is there a remote chance that Maruti will introduce AT in the Swift as well?

Spoke to Pasco - a dealer in Gurgaon - today and he told me that the K series (1.2) will be launched in Dec.

maruti still has its stock of 1.3 petrol swifts and dzires lying, so its still booking these cars and selling, might be after the launch only they might stop or may be book the left out cars with speedy deliveries to clear out stock.

But isn't the SX4 petrol having the 1.6Ltr and they are going to launch the BS4 variant in a couple of days.
