In fact they may be able to reduce prices of the new vehicle due to this. This advantages will be lost if they decide to tweak the G series motor. And a difference of 20k is not a small thing in this segment. Maruti would be hard pressed to let go of this.

I hope they use this moter in Swift and give some more equipment in Swift to justify the higher prices of Zxi model compared to Ritz.

I don't think they have much to gain by tweaking the G series engine. In fact it would be easier and cheaper for Maruti to plonk the K12M motor from the Ritz for the below mentioned reasons.

2. Better economies of scale for the K series motor due to spreading it over larger number of models which will in turn help in pushing down prices.
3. More than this the K12 motor gives excellent FE which is not so in the G series. Thus Maruti can expect to sell even more units with the enhanced FE.
4. Using a common parts bin gives a substantial cost advantage both to the manufacturer as well as the customer. It reduces manufacturing cost as well as the cost of spares due to a greater spread. It is a win win situation for both parties.

But Maruti cannot use the same K12M in all of their cars!

If they bring the new M-series or use a tweaked G-series, they can use it in a variety of cars like Swift, DZire, New Versa replacement and even Gypsy.

All the points you mentioned above is applicable here too!

I fail to understand how point 1 & 3 becomes applicable in this case. I seriously hope the bring in the M13A VVT for the Swift.

Yes, you are right. Regarding excise benefit and FE, the 1.3L will loose.

But regarding on-road / off-road performance, the 1.3L will be a clear winner over 1.2L, and that's one of the main points that made cars like Swift and Gypsy a hit.

And I too expect a 1.3L VVT!

When is the tentative of Swift launch with K series engine?

i dont think maruti would launch swift with its new 1.2K series engine, might detune 1.3 itself to be able to work with new norms applicable.
1.3 VVT, what else do we need.:D

I saw this red swift vxi with VVT-i badge, Is it a fake one?

Yep, a fake one definitely.

fake no doubt;like the many Ferraris we see on the roads.

else the car would have been masked and all that.

OT: During my trip to Qatar during Christmas, I came across very few Swifts and all of them had the VVT-i badge.

Could anyone shed some light on what a K-series engine actually is? I couldnt find any reference for it. when asked about it to the maruti showroom guy , all he knew was that it was an all aluminium engine and revved more. But wasn't the esteen engine also an all aluminium engine.

Swift gets K-series engine

Maruti has launched the latest version of Swift petrol and Swift Dzire petrol with a 1.2-litre engine which complies to the stricter BS-IV norms.

This is the same engine that was first seen doing duty in the Ritz.

The new engine, with a power output of 84bhp and 11.5kgm of max torque, will bring in improved transmission thus enhancing overall performance. (Earlier 1.3-liter petrol produced 87bhp and 11.3kgm of torque).

With the refined K-series engine, the company claims efficiency figures of 17.9kpl, an improvement of 2kpl over the old engine.

Maruti has recently announced a marginal price hike for all its models, but the Swift (Petrol) will miss the drill and prices will remain the same.
