I would vouch for Viper.... I have been consistently getting a an average of 13 with the odd 14 kmpl in 7.5 km run baleno in mumbai city driving.... have also managed the occasional 14 a couple of times

All of the above with complete AC... I as a practise always tank up and track my mileage like a hawk.... Saw if viper says 15.XX w/o A/C.. i got no reason to doubt...

cheers

what v1p3r says is true as far as my knowledge goes..shell does provide some great quality fuel...they have this super unleaded fuel which is about 49 rs or there abouts..got my tank filled twice there..and believe it or not the fuel economy really went up by almost 3-4kms when compared to the ordinary fuel u get at all these hp and bp outlets..may be its something to do with the super unleaded fuel tht shell is supplyin...hey is that the same fuel u filled in your baleno dude, bcoz u if it is then i wont be tht surprised..major problem being i cant go to the shell pump everytime i need to fill her up bcoz its about 5 kms from my house...and even if i fill her up completely i empty her in 2 days flat..so prefer to fill fuel only when going out in small quantities from a bunk thts hardly a few yards from my place....

My mileage is based on Speed from BPCL.. so not necessarily restricted to Shell alone

awesome man!
just did some math myself and got a mileage of 9.5 kmpl (a/c on all the time) when i had filled her up the last time at the bowring institute petrol bunk. the first time i had filled her up from the shell petrol bunk on lavelle road and got a mileage of about 11.7 kmpl. filled her up again at the bowring institute yesterday. have to see if it is the petrol bunk or the car giving me the low FE.

i think its possible to get such a figure especially without the a/c..
our alto shows 17 in the city without the A/c ...with A/c max we manage is around 14-15 ..same for the esteem difference is from 1.5 to 2 kmpl more with out the A/c ..

@Rtech and Buffetfan. Both times, I specified to the attendant that I was checking mileage. So it was filled way past the auto cutoff, till fuel was literally dripping out. Of course, we also shook the car about till all air was out of the tank. Also, I used the trip meter too. It showed the same reading as the difference b/w the odo readings. Aren't they both connected to the same mensuration devices?

@Mclaren1885... I use the normal Shell, not super unleaded. But it's still damn good. Besides, their service is great.

@devarshi...that's exactly what I did! Discount the extra Rs 500, and it's the same. After all, that IS the standard mileage checking practice.

@xezas...all secrets revealed at our next meet. If you guys ever show up!!! No mods, but my tyres are fatter, so I should get more mileage with stock rubber!!!

Damn.
It is physically impossible.
But our lancer is giving 10kmpl in everyday driving (our carb zen gave only 9) with a.c. in traffic so i am not complaining but 15 is just awesome.

The mileage you are getting is truly remarkable Viper.

Don't you think this is the right time for every TBHP Baleno owner to check their mileage and report to the forum?
- If yours is an exceptional case, let us find out what's the reason (other than your lucky stars...)
- If everyone's getting something like this...OMG!

Hard to believe.....That means normally, with the A/C on all the time it should give him aorund 13.5 to 14 kmpl....Damn, thats too much!

Given that the Baleno returns such awesome FE, I really wonder why Maruti plonked the Esteem engine in the Swift instead of the Baleno engine. The conventional wisdom was that they chose the Esteem engine because of it's greater FE, but if the Baleno gives such great FE, then the real reason must have been simply to cut costs.
