Yes, MSIL has posted excellent no this month as well. Kudos to them . But i am a bit concerned, seeing that almost 65 % of the sales are coming from A2 segment, where as they have seen a dip of 18 % in exports, May be because they are trying to clear out backlog in local market before launch of New swift before Diwali. IMO MSIL's over dependence on A2 segment is a bit worrying as every other car manufacturer is trying to get a pie of this segment. to me it's a Single point of failure .bit worrying .

I would be interested In seeing no' s of Figo and Punto . there should be some positive for punto, with their recent ad blitz for 90 HP vesion .

GM India August sales grow by 34%

GM India August sales grow by 34%
Quote:
BANGALORE: General Motors India registered a growth of 34 per cent in sales in August 2010 compared to the corresponding period last year.

It sold 7,941 units against 5,939 units in August 2009, a release said here today.

The August 2010 sales comprised -
  • 2,481 units of Chevrolet Spark
  • 2,475 units of Chevrolet Beat
  • 1,438 units of the Chevrolet Tavera
  • 724 units of the Chevrolet Cruze
  • 325 units of Chevrolet Aveo
  • 240 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA
  • 176 units of the Chevrolet Captiva
  • 82 units of Chevrolet Optra.
The increase in the sales was primarily driven by the response to Chevrolet Beat, Cruze and Spark, it said.

"We are excited by the continued overwhelming response to Chevrolet Beat, Spark and Cruze," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.

"Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer and our promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led to the impressive sales," he said.
Great numbers by Cruze inspite of Altis diesel launch. Beat is below the mark mainly because of lack of diesel option. I think this month they started 2 shifts in their plant to avoid delivery problems.

Comparison with July 2010
Quote:
Total sales of 7,124 units for July. The July sales comprised
  • 2,244 units of the Chevrolet Spark,
  • 1,722 units of Chevrolet Beat,
  • 1,546 units of the Chevrolet Tavera,
  • 639 units of the sedan Chevrolet Cruze,
  • 375 units of Chevrolet Aveo,
  • 240 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA,
  • 225 units of SUV Chevrolet Captiva
  • 133 units of mid sized sedan Chevrolet Optra, it added.

Ford's August sales at 7,925 units

Ford August 2010 sales

Source: Economictimes.com

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Carmaker Ford India today reported a three-fold jump in August sales at 7,925 units on the back of its latest small car Figo, which is getting a good response.

Figo has already received over 34,000 bookings in the last 25 weeks, Ford India said in a statement.

"The Figo phenomenon continues, and in addition to strong sales in India, we are excited about the opportunity to export this success to other markets around the world," Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said.

Following the first shipment of India-built Figo to South Africa in May, the compact car will be exported to 50 new markets including Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East from next year, the company said.

The company sells models such as the Ikon, Fiesta and Endeavour in the country

Comparison with July 2010 figures

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Car-maker Ford India today reported a four-fold increase in sales to 8,739 units in July, 2010, compared to 2,146 units in the same period last year.

"The sales boom is driven by overwhelming consumer demand for the new Ford Figo," the company said in a statement.

Since its launch in March, the company has received 29,000 bookings for Figo so far.

Ford sold 46,751 vehicles during the January-July, 2010, period.
Numbers are less in August in comparison to July 2010. I guess this is only to do with production issues. But if I have to read the number of bookings than I guess 5000 units of Figo (34,000 bookings -29,000 booking) were booked in August. It looks like the number is falling. They need to clear the backlog asap to get more numbers. Also I think cars like Figo will loose its design novelty easily because of not inspiring exterior. And as we saw in other threads they already have new Figo in pipeline with slight exterior changes to overcome this.

Indigo figures are disappointing great value not being understood enough - not yet crossing the Dzire figures?
Indica + Vista figures too are disappointing - but then there is today a lot more competition compared to last year in that segment. Maruti does not seem to be suffering too much on account of that competetion in this segment.
Safari + Sumo figures are as expected.
Linea + Punto have stabilized at 1500-2000 range. If only we gave the brand a chance.
Beat seems to have stablized around 2500 - it's got potential for a lot more, guess the novelty factor has worn off.
Figo seems to be down in the 5K range, once again continued footfalls don't seem to be happening. It though doing well is not achieving the potential of it's aggressive pricing.
Micra will end up being a niche product offering - but yet already doing better than the punto even with a non existant service network - atleast it does not have a -ve brand name to overcome.

Figo would have sold 6-6.5K units at least. It will pretty much be the same as last month. I bet Fiesta sales are down though. My guess:

6500 Figos
850 Fiestas
250 Endys
300 Ikons

I was shocked to see 'Santro, i10 and i20' numbers at 45,804 units. Then checked the source to realise these numbers include export as well.

In domestic market Hyundai sold 28,601 units for August 2010 in all segments. They roughly sold the same numbers in July 2010 (28,811 units).

Hyundai needs a new product to lift its marketshare. Currently their market share is falling with new companies coming to India. Probably the facelifted i10 will get help them in maintaining their share. Santa Fe is also coming but again that is not volume segment.

Mahindra said total sales of its tractors grew by 26% in August to 13,435 units.
Toyota

Quote:
Meanwhile, the India unit of Toyota Motor Corp. said August sales rose 26% to 6,361 units. The company said it has received bookings for 2,000 Toyota Corolla Altis diesel sedans since launching the model in July.

~~

No splits yet, but it looks like heavy discounts on Jazz got some buyers for Honda. Altis-D is becoming a hit.

Thanks for correcting. But it shows that Hyundai export figures (mostly i10's) are almost matching domestics sales.

Honda Figures:

City : 4259
Jazz : 592
Civic: 455
Accord: 203
Cr-V: 22

Source: Honda India Website Honda Car India : Press Releases

So it's the "City" which has boosted the sales of Honda. Jazz is just holding into its around 600 mark.

Any info on Volkswagen sales? I'm sure the Polo must have clocked 2500 this month. Last time it was about 2200.

barring some new products, the whole market is a bit down it seems. Fiat sales have crashed miserably desperate intense promotions. And jazz ales have steadily risen, discount effect perhaps?
